Borkh had recorded Elekra, conducted by Bohm and released on DGG. but this live performance trumps the studio version. The singer was a great interpreter of this role and the voice was equal to its demands. I was fortunate to see her in the role in 1953 when she made her American debut in SF. The cast was equal to the soprano, the the evening was unforgettable.
Borkh was the greatest Elekra; she's never been surpassed....
How very true! A.G. Fantur, Vienna
What? No comments about Mitropoulos, one of the greatest of opera conductors? And Böhme is quite amazing.
I love dramatic sopranos with such a great ability that they sound like lyrical ones.
