@@gatchywatchyentertainmentb2090 I love the originals and Donald pleasance but what did his character really do or say? As shallow as malcolm's character was he had more depth to him then the original character.
I kinda love that about Zombie's Halloween. Like you can never be sure if Rob is try to: A) scary, B) gross out, C) make you laugh or D) cry. Possibly some combination of two or more. Say what you will about those movies, they are a ride.. Also this is my new favorite channel, the humor is perfect.
I swear quite a lot but that short little scene recap of everyone just yelling at each other is next level. Also “QUICK! FEEL SOMETHING!” Is always going through my head for like no reason 😂
See one of my problems with the film is Michaels first kill. In the original, it was shocking and terrifying. Seeing a six year old boy, murder his sister and wondering why? In the remake, the first kill is a bully, in broad daylight. It's not shocking and he is killing a character, the audience was manipulated to hate, by being an over the top bully. I was happy he was killed, so the first Michael kill had NO impact on me. There tons of other issues I have with the film, but that's one of my big complaints. Great video by the way. It's a shame you don't have more subscribers. I really appreciate the time and effort you put in your work!
I have to say I'm simply apalled by a scene in this review. The wanton jokes made about sexual assault of a bagel are simply unacceptable One of my closest friends is a doughnut who was forcibly raped and assaulted, and I simply will not stand for pastry assault jokes. You sicken me, Andy.
Carpenter has class as he never criticizes the mess Zombie has made of his film. Zombie, on the other hand, heavily does his best to point out inadequacies in the original. Zombie was not cut out to helm this type of movie.
David Imrie Rob said he loved the original film and respects John Carpenter immensely as a fellow horror aficionado turned filmmaker. He also stated that "If you get a film 100% right on the first try,you might as well retire."
I think this is actually a wonderful representation of character study in reality. Not of Michael Myers so much, as Rob Zombie, himself. Look how much of him you can actually see in this movie. It's egocentric to be honest. But what are human shaped monsters, if not egocentric? Love Hurts? Michael was incestuously in love with his mother: egocentric trait. It turned to pain when he felt abandoned, which turned to rage, but even so, he found solace in his sister some what: again, egocentric trait. If Rob Zombie actually KNEW what he was doing by putting so much of himself into this movie, then this is a direct psychological translation into himself. It fails as a move, and as a remake, but not really as a character study into the nature of serial killers. Which is basically a study into self worth and the ego.
One complement to the zombie versions, it gave more reason to Michael's mask. To this Michael, putting on a mask is like becoming a different person, a person not bond to feelings, empathy or morals, a person who can willing kill. I feel it also deepens the connection between Michael and his main mask, instead of being something random he picked out at a hardware store and decided to roll with it, it is now a mask from the night of his big kill.
I kinda wish that Michael was portrayed as more innocent, like living in this destructive environment, and he tries to hold on to his innocence, and the bully was the straw that broke the camel's back, unleashing all the built up anger, and pain. Maybe show his life from his point of view, and just have him snap.
I really like the format of your reviews and how things change over time. The gimmick works great as you walk the line between sympathetic and "OH MY GOD, ANDY! NO! DON'T HURT JIMMY! D8"
A long chain of events starting with house of a thousand corpses, moving to jackula's reviews, eventually seeing Andy in jackula's Halloween 2 review FINALLY brought me to find this mad lad
15:30 - 15:39 Holy shit! Michael Myers is a hero! . . . Glad they cut out that scene. That would make me want to really cheer for Remake Michael, who is supposed to be the main villain . . . in a film where every character is an unlikable jackass who I would want to see dead (well except for Danny Trejo who actually is the nicest guy in the film).
I love this review so much, I love that Andy does some incredible homages to the Halloween films and of course let's not forget that bagel scene, it's darkly hilarious.
Whenever I have a bad day or need a laugh this review ALWAYS makes me laugh. There’s a lot of great takes on the 07 Rob Zombie Halloween remake but this may be the best.

Andy, I watch a good amount of reviews online, but usually out only watch him once or twice. But between you and Cinema Snob, I catch myself watching your reviews multiple times. You really do deserve way more subscribers than you have and I try to tell everyone I know about the channel. Much love
One of the best reviews I have seen. Funny as well. I too love Rob Zombie, but not his Halloween films. Rob Zombie and a Halloween film just are not a good mix.
@ScariestMidget Me too, I SO want Robert to get his Dr. Loomis on! He was KIND of like him in Urban Legend, ALMOST:) Especially if Brad is Brackett, because then you have Freddy AND Chucky going after Michael! Would you also totally want Kane Hodder to be Michael so that the best Jason can be part of it too? I can't stop imagining him as him! Anthony Hopkins would be an incredible Loomis too, Hannibal freaking Lecter...!
I do love this movie. Mainly because I actually think having a backstory for Michael does work. Maybe some people didn’t like how gritty it was, but it’s the only Halloween movie we have that gives Michael a backstory.
Wow , just came across this !!! Love the effort and creativity you put into this !!! . Now I will hit the subscribe button just because I love when people take a new spin on things !!!! Love it !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🎃
The original Kirk mask used in the first two films now sits in a horror museum, along with the boots, coveralls, and Halloween 2 scalpel. Dick Warlock sold them all to the museum
StitchedTogetherPics, I am a big fan of the HALLOWEEN films, as well as your work. I am a horror buff and love how you compare the originals and the remakes. Me myself, I love the HALLOWEEN remake. It feels the same but different. I hope when the new one comes out next year with JLC coming back as Laurie, you review it. Oh did you know this October will be a double blood bath? we will have Friday the 13th and Halloween in one month. I'm sure the body count will be high. Keep up the great work.
if I hear that song from Halloween 3 one more time.... Anyway, it's a pretty horrible remake. But take the original out of equation and think of it as its own film and I think it works. And no he didn't ruin the franchise, the very minute Busta Rhymes kung-fu'ed Michael Myers is when the franchise was ruined. All Rob Zombie did was make a remake (surpise surprise) and add a horrendus sequal (like the franchise didn't already have one anyway.......Halloween 5, 6, and Ressuction)
I can't help it, but Good Andy is so bloody adorkable when singing the "Silver Shamrock" jingle at the start. I think that little bit keeps making me watch this review, and of course the rest of the analysis is spot on for me (hee hee).
This is a really hard one to review... There are hints of genius here and there in the zombie film but it's so overshadowed by the bad and his style is just not fitting for this kind of film. The framework for a great remake is there. A lot of what would make this film better would be cutting the first act in the Myers home and open with a brief killing scene and have the first act take place in Smith's Grove where some of the best scenes in the film take place. It would keep the mystique of the Shape while having the benefit of watching young Michael slowly and tragically disappear.
+The Cinema Cowboy Agreed. The Smith Grove's scenes are some of my favorite. I didn't really like the young Michael stuff at all. I think it would have been more interesting if he came from a normal, loving family and for an unknown reason just went nuts. "Hints of genius here and there" really sums it up. I'm a fan of Zombie (hell I helped fund his next movie and preordered his next cd), but I think he pushes things a little too far to shock and goes over the edge. I think he's a great director, he has his own style, but I wish he'd direct a script he didn't write.
There's no hints of genius anywhere in the film. There's hints of somewhat decency. A few sequences are effective and some of the scenes are okay at best. But genius? No. Zombie has never done anything genius in his life.
Oooh Dammit! I spit my my mouth full of chips and dip all over the place laughing hysterically on the "He played Michelle in Hancock" bit! 😂🤣😱You my friend have a very special gift!
I did like Zombie's re-make. No one can touch Carpenter's original; it's a beast all to itself. Zombie did a good job but you were spot on with the comparison to the Devil's Rejects universe being transposed to the Halloween universe - it didn't work and took away from the mystique of Michael Myers. All in all it is a good movie and I have a feeling one day in the future could be considered a "Classic?" Great review.
The bagel bit made me almost cry, laugh out loud because I thought you were gonna eat it. Laugh again, and then it disturbed me. You're fuckin great Andy.
Speaking as someone who has been hospitalized twice for mental health reasons, I can confirm we weren't allowed forks, at least, not metal ones. They gave us plastic sporks and spoons. We weren't allowed to leave as a group until the staff that were there saw that everyone had thrown their utensils away.
There was potential in making a remake of Halloween. The biggest flaw in Rob Zombies version is that its cliche and predictable. For me, the scariest aspect of Michael Myers is that we don't know why he is the way he is. Is he just pure evil, or did something make him that way, why does he want to kill Jaime Lee Curtiss character. We don't know his motives, therefore, we don't know what will make him stop. An interesting thing to have in the remake is to constantly confuse the viewer about Michael behavior. In one scene, he might spare someone, but kill someone who is just like the one he spared. Then there could be a plot where a psychologist, who fundimantaly believes that all killers come from nurture and not nature, and tries to figure out who Michael is, expecting to find something that you would find in a serial killer text book, but finds out that he had a perfect childhood, a mentoring father, a caring mother, and a kind older sister. No issues at school, no issues with friends or neighbours, and took care of animals. Making the psychologist question his beliefs. Mr. Zombie could have done something interesting with his little sister. That when she's grown up, she is bullied and mistreated by her new family, going through the text-book-serial-killer childhood. And when Micheal escapes he goes to look for her, kills her parents and her bullies, to make the viewers think that he is maybe protecting her. But then he suddenly slits her throat, leaving the viewer wondering if he did it because he is just pure evil, or if it was some kind of mercy kill. Because he knew what she would become, or that he sees the world as just a gutter and saves her from the pain.
I just found your channel and I love your video so I subbed. Ive been watching the Halloween movies and the rob zombie remakes i really didnt want to watch but i did so i could say i have.

That’s…actually really interesting and could’ve made for an interesting take. Well said.

People would complain no matter what... if it was just like the original, they would say it's too much like the original, but if it's different, they say it's too different. People don't know what they want, lol.

Flatline 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
8:03 Hahaha! Yeah, that's the expression I would make by the mixed tone. 16:13 I knew it, the mask from Devils Rain looked way to similar to the Halloween mask.
8:53 I thought Machete would have been angrier with Michael since he killed his Spy Kid nephew
Andy, come back! We need you!
I love how Tommy was dressed as Otis during the ceremony scene in House Of 1,000 Corpses.
