  • Toyota is having another crack at a big saloon called Camry. It's very good and that, but Mark's not entirely sure why they're bothering.
    The review's good though. Really. :-D

    Oh dear! Please don’t rely on this video for a description of how the transmission in this car works. The video describes a traditional CVT transmission. This car does not have cones. Toyota calls it an e-CVT because it’s the closest approximation to the way it works and Toyota like confusing people. The hybrid system is much cleverer, and more reliable as it doesn’t have a steel belt, using the petrol engine and two motor generator units. Think of a differential but in reverse combining power from the petrol and electric motors to turn the wheels. There are some good videos on RUclips that accurately describe how it works.
    On another note, when will Toyota learn and develop a decent media system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay?

      Not the case in NZ. The Chinese like to drive BMW , VW and Merc as they like show that they've "made it" The Indians just drive old used imported German cars that crap out to show they haven't made it. The Chinese just hate driving anything Japanese just like the poms.

    Been driving camry for a year and it is damn good car. Before I had bmw 5, arteon, audi 6, e class mercedes 400, so sedans are my thing. I am not saying things like camry is better, but I love it, no problems what so ever. I drove around 40000 miles in it and car is undestructible, and they did put android auto in it.

    Don't believe all that rubbish about the superiority of German cars. They are noisy, uncomfortable (including terribly hard seats)and utterly unreliable. Dieselgate anyone? DSG transmission scandal? Disintegrating split mass flywheel? Rubbish VW 1.4 TSI engines with chains stretching, etc etc??? The list just goes on and on.

    You can tell this car was primarily designed for the US market...TBH, I like the styling, particularly inside. Far, far better than the previous generation of Toyotas, in line with the current Corolla. For them, this improvement is a BIG step up for them. And it has a more stylish interior (especially the dash) than its Lexus brothers and sisters, which to me look weird.

    Personally I think it's a really good looking car. Definitely a big improvement on the Avensis that came before. The level of tech you get as standard is just insane and it'll easily return 50mpg in normal driving. What's more you know it will still be running flawlessly years after its so called "exciting" competition like the BMWs and Mercs are littering scrap yards.

    As Mark hinted at, a great long distance cruiser. I have driven them loooong distances around Australia and NZ and they do the business. But the UK list price is a joke, even though it is well equipped. Also, we have had a series of Toyotas in the family for 20 years and the dealers have always looked after us, even when the car was well out of warranty. Not always to case with some brands. That makes up for a lot when you have to pay for the car from your own pocket. Another good review, thanks Mark.

    How the hell do people confuse the "self charging hybrids". It is exactly what it called... A hybrid that charges itself from the engine... I mean what did people think charged the battery?? Nuclear power? Solar power?? Toyota hybrids have been around for 20 years we all know how it works. And its a good thing to call them "self charging" so to easier distinguish from "plug in hybrids". The word "hybrid" according to the dictionary - something (such as a power plant, vehicle, or electronic circuit) that has two different types of components performing essentially the same function. The word itself indicates it is a mix of 2 power plants.... If it was not using an ICE and burning fossil fuel toyota would have just called it an "electric car". Common people...

  • @Grant0610
    @Grant0610 4 года назад

    It doesn't look quite as boring as you are making out. It does make you laugh! If it had a BMW badge on the front reviewers would be wetting themselves over it! The BMW 3-Series (a lot smaller and less reliable) has hardly changed looks wise for about 20 years yet it constantly gets 5* reviews. How can that be when it is not the best for reliability? If you are looking for a 3 box saloon I think this would be OK but I agree, I hate CVT gearboxes! Why do so many Japanese companies still use them?
