  • Today's modern metal mixing tutorial is more of an open conversation on the topic of creating a heavy thall, djent, deathcore or metalcore music mix. More than the tone of the guitars, drums, bass and vocals, today's chat is really about how to push the mix to keep bands and artists coming back to you. More of a theoretical talk while also going over real life techniques and lessons I've learned in the process.
I'm Brendon Padjasek of the band Structures from Toronto, Canada and welcome to my channel based on modern metal, djent, and deathcore music, production, mixing and song writing.

No worries at all that’s what the format is for. I definitely am constantly shocked at how much louder I think guitars are than they actually are

i make electronic music and learn to produce metal with plugins etc. so i'm coming from the other side of the process if that makes sense, the production side and what you're talking about makes a lot of sense

Oh yeah. It’s strange the similarities between genres when you start to think about the type of sounds you need and the push that instruments need

I definitely struggle with this. I'm a guitar player first and my guitars are almost always too loud. I want to be able to hear the guitars and feel the mix just isn't right when I can't hear them as well as I would like or think I should. And then I hear a professional mix and notice the guitars are a lot lower in the background. My own personal bias definitely gets in the way of creating that kind of professional sounding mix.

I was definitely the same way so I can easily understand what you mean haha. We put so much effort into the guitars with getting the tone right and everything and then we completely forget that music is really felt with the drums

yeah guitars aren't as loud as we think they are that's for sure

Like the topics and the whole style of the video
    But
Didn't like the hiss from the mic audio

Yeah love the flexibility of the rode wireless mics but everytime I use it I hate that hiss. I feel like this is the last video I’ll do with them unless it’s actually necessary
