I know on average women are smaller than men. But I'm SURE there's some more bigger women in the world that could fight really well in MMA to justify heavier weight-classes at the highest level. Why is it mostly the smaller ones that get into it? Does it start with self-defence? Feel like there's some real opportunity missed for the sport at the moment in that area.

lol. When the US Judo team went to study at the Kodokan, Rhonda wasn't interested, and chose to goof off instead. That's why her grappling was second rate compared to Harrison's.
My sense is the only reason Harrison is striking is because the fans and promoters demand it-they want to see brutality and blood. But I have little doubt the "greatest living grappler" could do it with pure grappling every time.

@RowdyKid To be fair, Kayla was a teenager, I don't remember the exact age difference but Ronda was older and bigger at that moment. Later, Harrison grew to become the physically large and imposing fighter she is today, as well as more skilled. So, a rematch between the two would probably be a lot closer. And, Ronda has been away from the sport for too long to dominate anyone in a cage and the last tow times she fought in MMA, she was completely exposed for her weaknesses. I give Kayla the advantage if they ever meet in a cage anytime soon, which is unlikely anyways.

@@jonjones7137 Because she has 2 Olympic Gold medals, one of a very small number of people who achieved the same, which has more prestige than MMA titles. (Unlike every other fighter in MMA, Harrison came to this sport with something to lose, reputation-wise.) I'll take Kodokan judo every time.

No one seems to have the answer for the 'gold medalist' judo takedown. Then the 'pound' after the 'ground.' It looks pretty routine, the fights of hers that I've seen. High level excitement, too, all pretty much coming from Harrison. Not so much from any of her opponents, unless it's to supply the blood smear on the mat. You KNOW you're an exciting fighter, when your fans would prefer a straight forward win, as opposed to the ground to pound to blood spurt.
When she gets given a worthy opponent she ‘will’ be stopped no question!

There's not many opponents in her weight class in the ufc, she would have to cut down to 135 and that could hurt her performance think about it.

Look at every MMA promotion , even the UFC strawweight champion is like 11-6. Womens records are generally more mixed and in MMA in general. This isn´t boxing.

Call me when a 2-time Olympic gold medalist with Kodokan training can't take down an MMA fighter. (Even where Kimura couldn't beat Santana cleanly in the 2nd match per lack of no-holds-barred experience, he still stood and exchanged blows until the clock ran out at 42 years old. Santana, by contrast, was at the peak of his strength at 27.)
