It's time to journey out into the wild world of playing electronic music live. Tune in to Episode 1 where I explain the premise of the series and try to get a handle on where to start.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments below and hopefully we can learn together as we head to next years festival circuit!!
And if you haven't already hit that SUBSCRIBE button, what are you waiting for??? - Видеоклипы
Top drawer stuff - excited to see/hear the progress over the next year and fingers crossed for that fezzie set!
Much appreciated pal, got my fingers already crossed too aha
Also needing a name for this series so get commenting if you have any good suggestions!!
Festival Circuit
I like the video processing, such nice VHS vibes
I encourage you on the path to festivals and will learn with you along the way.
Thanks Michael !!!
Sweet man
Where you based? Your accent sounds Leeds/Manchester
Stalking Sweely and watching a few Paranoid London/Kink live sets Ive learnt that most of the time they create tracks in arrangement view and then bounce the stems and put the into the session view and trigger them from there. Then have a ton of channels broken into each track.
You could get really techy with it by programming in program changes and even filters/volumes with CC messages in the midi channels that are going to your hardware bits.
I have never gone this far but something I have also been interested in attempting. So I will definitely be following along and chiming in.
Hey Vidkid, I'm actually from Surrey but living in London atm. Ah yeah that makes sense, I think thats the next step of the journey !! Cor, that does seem a bit techy but 100 percent something i want to check out. Appreciate the comment and hope to hear more as the videos progress!!
great idea! keen to see how you get on man! good luck :)
Thanks pal, appreciate it!
Thats some very good stuff I hear!
Thanks pal!
Jam is pretty dope
Can't wait to hear the EP and hopefully bop to it live at a festi in the next year!
dope af 🎧
Cheers Tim!!
I'll see you at the pyramid stage next year then 💯
Thanks pal, I reckon they'll have me on after Elton John this year!
Sounds class! Keen to see the session broken down.
Also if you don't use the TD-3 enough, you could try linking it up with the modular rack as it has CV controls?
Yeah im hoping ill be breaking down the process and the elements more and more as the series goes on! Nice idea regarding the TD-3, I'll have a mess around!
That track has some acid sounding progressions. Would be cool to hear the 303 come in to transition into a more traditional acid techno/house from this one.
Anyway, new sub here. Excited to see you build this set out. Good luck!!
Nice suggestion, defo want to try get as much use out of my gear as possible to I'll see what i can rustle up! Also thanks for sub, hope you enjoy the series!!
Can't wait to see what's next, keep it up man :)
Thanks Theo, hopefully get Episode 2 finished in the next week or so!
Really curious bout this project. My two cents would be that the first idea or track seems a bit empty. There is something missing to grab onto. Mixing wise I think you should defo give the kickdrum more grid and make it the main element alongside your bassline. Sounds like a game waiting screen or keygen generator so far ;)
Keep em coming!
Hey man, thanks for dropping a comment. Yeah the track is kinda early doors but its funny you mention video game music as i know Guy Contact has said that its inspired most of his early work and I used him as inspiration for this one! Appreciate the feedback will definitely take it on board for the next one :)
Really excited for this series! Working on building a live set is daunting. Do you think you’ll get a more conventional ‘brains’ of the setup? Maybe a maschine, octa, or push 3? Might give you more performance features to play with.
Thanks Felix!!! I think that makes the most sense just for playability, especially regarding song transitions!
Yes I got an advice for everyone, but you'll maybe not gonna like this.
The most important thing is search for people that will get you there, like an agency that has a great network and actually get off their asses and do their job to get you played at a festival in staed they only receive your money.
Make contact to people of local festivals.
Now as the technical aspect:
Take care of a hassle free setup, mitigate the risk of failure of your equipment. Sample as much as you can and don't trust your thorough testing with your setup at home. (Stages are weird, are often way warmer and there is more moisture in the air then at home. Equipment can behave differently live in these environments. like hanging notes, power issues, pops, humming noises so be asure of that.
Also take care of personal sound monitoring. Stages are weird and with local venues it's always questionable what equipment the venue are using and the experience of the FOH. So a personal monitor speaker that you can rely on is very important just for yourself. Also be asure that your equipment is able to connect to DI-boxes this will mitigate groundloop (hum) issues.
Wish you many luck with your journey and take care!
Thanks Lennert, awesome comment with some really useful tips. Will definitely jot them down!!
@@scenes1119 You're very welcome!
get push 2 to control live view - good luck!
Like the look of the Push but wondering if it'll be overkill. Defo something to look into, cheers Thomas!!
Love the concept of the series !
I’m not sure if I will able to give you advices as I am still (trying) making music with one laptop and only one real synth 😅 but if I have any constructive feedback on the next video, I’ll try to help
I’m sure you’ll do it to a festival next year, keep up the good work, it sounds 👌🏼
Thanks for the support MetroidVibes !
I see that you are performing with ableton in arrangement view, never seen that but would be awesome to know your thoughts on doing a live performance in session vs arragement view! nice stuff!
Hey there shufflevalley, this was really more to get an idea of playing my Syntakt alongside Ableton as the track had already been set up in the arrangement view. I think going forwards I'll be setting everything up in session view to allow myself the control on when to move onto a next section!!
You can select and bounce the entire arrangement to session view, and then mess around with loop points/follow actions for each full-length clip.
Means that you get the benefits of arrangement view ie. clear view of automation, better builds etc along with the jammability of session view!
Much like what T_ards has said below!
@@s2irecordings649 Thanks mate, appreciate this comment, especially from someone who plays live a lot !! I saw a similar video yesterday on how to do that so I'll definitely have that sorted for the next episode. Also big fan of the label and the magazine, keep smashing it!!
@@s2irecordings649 yeah I've seen that technique used by some artists too but never tried it as I feel a bit overwhelmed for the entire proccess of organizing the clips, levels, loops for more than one track in one single live project, but will definitely try it in the near future ♥
How is the syntakt mate? Been considering it. Love the idea of the video
Thanks man, yeah i really like it, super intuitive for making quick beats but now trying to get my head around composing a full track in it.
