Even if you’re not a NEB fan, pretty hard to argue they don’t have the most impressive fan base after this…
Great moment for WOMENS sports.
I'm from South Korea and admire America that have world greatest sports infrastructure, players, and fan's enthusiasm.
Can't believe that It's college sports.
Soccer is the greatest sport
Any sport in which you can't use your arms and hands is a sport that is less than optimal. Hey, let's invent a sport where you have to play blindfolded...how interesting...NOT. Playing a game for 120 minutes to a tie and declaring a winner based on "penalty kicks" is absurd. Imagine ending an overtime American football game based on field goal kicks or a basketball game based on free-throws.
World record! Thats pretty crazy! Props to the proactive attempt and achievement.
I lived in Nebraska in 1991 as an exchange student. I am coming back this winter to watch a Cornhusker game live. That "Red Sea" of fans is unforgettable, just like this game.
/ A Swede
you have to visit gothenburg home of the swedes!
@@ettibbet5493 You mean the real Gothenburg here or Gothenburg, NE? 🤣😉
Kudos to the Corn Shuckers for having this event and setting the attendance record. That is really something to draw that many fans to a VB match and would have been something to witness. It would have been nicer if they had held the match against an opponent that could have given them some actual competition.
/ B Swede
Universitetssporten här är otrolig, eller hur? Jag pluggar just nu på University of Minnesota och hockeymatcherna är fan oförglömlig.
I lived in Sweden from 2007-2009 and am a die hard Cornhusker fan. I’m glad a Swede is a fan of the big red machine.
92,000 strong❤ GBR
Interesting fact: the attendance of this game is counted to be 92,003, breaking the record for the highest attendence of a women's sporting event. The previous record was a UEFA women's fútbol (soccer) finals match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg, with 91,648. What this means is that a women's professional championship game of the most popular sport on earth got outsold by some girls at a university that is practically in the middle of nowhere, in a sport with no professional league, during a season that barely started, held on a Wednesday.
Think about that.
Edit: Wolfsburg and Barcelona played twice in the Champions league. It was the semi-finals in leg 1 that had the record. Still...
GBR!!
Proof that Nebraska fans are not just your typical fans.
Some girls?
In a sport with no professional league?
I love Nebraska but this entire thing was obviously set up to go for the world record, its not like nebraska’s previous records where which were fueled by a competitive or critical match up.
But why?
To be fair NCAA might as well be the pros to some fans
Great to see my favorite Volleyball team playing in Memorial stadium .👍👍I lived in Lincoln 43+ years now living in India. Wish all Husker players and coaches the best this season. Great win for Lady Huskers. 👍👍
Some people here are missing the point. Yes, is did break the attendance record, but there is a finite number of times to be able to play this match. When the idea was set up (around 6 months ago), college volleyball schedules had long been set (usually years in advance). Wether was indeed a factor, so it had to be early enough to not have the possibility of cold weather, but late enough for the regular season to have started. Plus, you had to do it when the football team was going to be out of town and not needing the field for practice during the week, like a Thursday game at Minnesota. Was Omaha an easier opponent, sure, but the event featured four Nebraska teams, celebrating volleyball in Nebraska. The people complaining about it and knocking the event are usually bitter fans making it about hating Nebraska, not celebrating what the event did for the athletes, schools, fans and women's sports in general. Bravo NU!
such an historical moment in volleyball history! would've been more entertaining if it were an even match lol
What a magical night it was, especially with the drone shots and the fireworks show at the end.
Congratulations Nebraska Lady Cornhuskers!
GO! BIG! RED!
This was delightful! Thank you fans for caring
Nebraska goes crazy for their school
Congrats, Husker Nation! GBR!!!
Outstanding accomplishment! Go Big Red!
That’s awesome!!
Best sports fans in the country!
I’m surprised they didn’t play this against a bigger opponent
NE VB day = NE teams
In order to fill the stadium they needed two fan bases from teams located in close proximity. Still an amazing accomplishment. But if they played, say, Washington, all 92,000 fans would’ve had to been Nebraska fans.
Creighton would have been a far more worthy opponent. Even D2 Wayne State (NE) would have made it more competitive the UNO.
@@jsurgee23They played against Omaha. The entire stadium was Nebraska fans. They could have held their red-white scrimmage in that spot and got the same crowd to show up.
@@YoWhatGoesHere Nebraska averages 67,000 fans for their FOOTBALL Spring Game scrimmage each year.
This is dope fr hope to see this more
Congrats cornhuskers. I went to school at creighton in omaha and the nebraskans love their sports,
So cool!!
I would watch volleyball rather than the US Women's Soccer Team.
Whatta awesome event!
Not a volleyball fan but I had to check this out. Incredible
hook ‘em horns!!!🤘🏽🤘🏽
GBR!!!
Very cool! I hope your football team will be good agajn!
Nah, they can just play in the Devany center from now on and the girls will play in memorial stadium.
Just kidding, we all hope so, too.
This is literally 10x more entertaining than womens soccer. Especially the womens national team. They might have to start making Volleyball the national womens sport there could be some money there if a league existed.
Volleyball in general is more entertaining to watch than soccer.
Soccer is not even close to being as entertaining as volleyball. Imagine how excited these fans would have been if the Huskers had been playing against Wisconsin or Texas. The only reasons the US women's soccer team is so popular is because 1) they used to dominate international competitions and quite frankly because 2) it is mostly white women on the team. Volleyball will eventually surpass soccer in popularity in the US if the mass media gives it the kind of attention that soccer has received, which this Nebraska event begins to demonstrate.
Actually, a women's professional volleyball league will begin play in the US in February 2024. The Omaha Supernovas is one of the initial franchises, with others in Grand Rapids, Columbus, San Diego, Atlanta, and Orlando, with Dallas joining in 2025. Omaha has quite a few players who are part of the US Women's National Team and one player who is on the Dominican Republic team.
@@karus01 Joe Burrow is one of many investors in the new league. Professional Volleyball is incredibly popular in Europe so why not give it a go here?
@@pfdtx4633 Agreed, I believe in it so much I purchased season tickets for next year already.
It would have been interesting to watch a top 10 team not a weak team like Omaha. Interesting choose of team to challenge.
"volleyball day in Nebraska", might have something to do with both teams being from Nebraska
Also probably wanted to ensure a sellout crowd, so playing an in-state team would be their best chance. Maybe they could have tried for Creighton or a Kansas school.
Kansas isn't in Nebraska, it's just a territory of Nebraska.@@samuelblack1687
@@samuelblack1687don't you think it's more impressive to have a every one show up for in state schools? No need to go out of state to fill the seats. It was a nebraska vb party. 4 nebraska schools played in the stadium today.
There are other universities in Nebraska with far better volleyball teams than UNO, e.g., Creighton and Wayne State.
Harper Murray next in a line of all time greats go big red
That's America!!
See that, Klaus Schwab @World Economic Forum?...you'll never take us down!
That was amazing, Michigan should do it next
Except that Michigan has a volleyball tradition of mediocrity and the volleyball fan base is therefore small. They could play Michigan State in the Big House and draw maybe 20,000 fans if the tickets were $1. Those teams are now doormats of the Big Ten in volleyball.
Doubtful Michigan could draw that many volleyball fans anytime soon. My money is on Texas or Tennessee trying to break the record eventually.
How come one person wears a different color jersey on each team? Are they captions? It’s dope I like it.
they are liberos. they are defense specialists and they never serve and they don’t rotate like the rest of the players.
@@melloe6831thanks. I have been wanting to know this for years.
why was the back row on the left always closer to the front? they lost so many points cz or that.
GBR!!! 🫶🏻
Wisconsin fan here. Glad this makes Husker fans feel good. Hate to tame your excitement but doing all these just for a record's sake and cancel the entire school along the way, is just totally wrong and not setting your priority straight as an education institution. No wonder you are no longer in the AAU and as the only exception you don't really deserve to be kept in the B1G.
how can a women volleyball team make 90000 attendance damn that's cool
I wonder if the wind somehow affects, given that this is an open field event
Yep. Coach Cook spoke about it in his post-game presser. He said the wind was a factor he was concerned about. He credited their experience playing beach volleyball for their ability to adjust to it.
Having played outdoor volleyball in Nebraska numerous times over the years, that is a big YES. Fortunately, the wind was about 10-15 mph, so it wasn't a huge factor in game play tonight.
Neb v neb? I don't get it
Idk anything about volleyball but isnt penn state usually a top ranked team? They should do this again vs them.
they are, but this was a celebration of volleyball in the state of nebraska, so the teams that played(UNL, UNO, UNK and Wayne State) are all teams in nebraska.
Penn State used to be great in women's volleyball. This year they are unranked and will be lucky to finish in the top half of the Big Ten.
free tickets ?
$25, $5 for kids
Up to $400 on the secondary market.
Nope, the fans here are really that passionate about Husker sports, especially football and volleyball.
Imagine if Omaha wins it lol
why is one player on each team wearing the opposite colored shirt
sorry superbowl😅😅😅😅the crowd was massive
Ehhh... they really went out on a limb there playing a horrible UNO team, huh?. Why didn't they bring in Oregon, Texas, Fla, LSU, or Wisky? It just seems like a world record should be held by 2 elite teams competing against each other.
This was Nebraska Volleyball Day, meant to showcase Nebraska volleyball teams.
The Nebraska athletics administration underestimated the ardor of their own volleyball fans. They would have sold-out the stadium against teams such as Wisconsin, Texas, Minnesota, Stanford, Florida or Louisville. This would have had national interest for much more than an attendance record. But it did prove that Nebraskans will show-up en masse even for a relatively meaningless volleyball game.
@@user-fm6wd8xy2o Uhh, did you see the match? Stadium seating capacity is 85,000, so there were 7,000 standing room fans. Take a look at overhead drone shots and see for yourself. Playing a nationally ranked opponent would create more interest, but if the weather wasn't as decent as yesterday, it would have been very ugly volleyball.
Each ticket included a free Play Station!
Why would you play a team that bad?
Omaha has had very good teams in the past. They really aren't that bad, but this Nebraska team will likely make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.
thats nice, meaningless but nice
Great for women’s sport but I feel like this was set up with the intention of breaking the record rather than watching the game. It wasn’t close, the competition was average and hadn’t even won a game yet
Nebraska Volleyball Day was meant to be a celebration of Nebraska volleyball. Two games, four Nebraska teams.
@@dream_in_digital The point is that it could have been so much more than just an attendance record. This could have been USA Volleyball Day, with Nebraska as the host. Nobody outside of the 2 million residents of Nebraska cares about the other 3 teams. Try this next year and all the TV networks will be begging to televise it... one day, four great VB teams playing each other in a tournament. I suggest Nebraska vs Texas at noon, Louisville vs Wisconsin afterwards, winners play each other at 7PM for the championship. OR the Big Ten Network could welcome two of USC/UCLA/OR/WA into the Big Ten with a BigTen VB Day with a similar tournament playing against Wisconsin and Nebraska. Best 2 of 3 sets if the weather is hot.
@user-fm6wd8xy2o That's a great idea. Now that they've proven they can draw the audience, I hope they try and do something like that next year.
Why not do this vs some real competition. wasted it on omaha
Like watching U14 boys V U8 boys.
That’s because there’s nothing else to do in Nebraska.
True, but this kind of thing only happens 6 or 7 days in the year for other Nebraska sports.
When your football team is as bad as NEBRASKA'S people will cheer for anything.
Are you kidding me?
This whole thread is just Nebraska fans self proclaiming to be the greatest fans. Its one thing for an impartial announcer analyst or fan of another program to mention it and take pride but there shouldn't be any pride taken in being excessively arrogant, pretentious and sanctimonious.
Um...Nebraska just PROVED they have the greatest volleyball fans ...in the entire world. This is coming from a Minnesota fan that is not a Husker fan, but greatly appreciates what Nebraska, Terry Pettit & John Cook have done for this sport.
@user-fm6wd8xy2o to show their dedication is fine but you would tire of me sending you a direct message telling you how great the fanbase I support is on a daily basis wouldn't get old? Let's start now I'm so great no one else compares to how great I am everyone should want to be me look what I've done...
