Phil also did the two season NBC TV series Movin'On.(1974-1976) Seven Ups Exec Producer Barry Weitz created this NBC series. Both were partners for the show.
The drivers did not do "80mph" on the street. In fact, director Phil D'Antoni had an edict that they shouldn't exceed 40mph (which looks plenty fast on camera). The one time the stunt drivers did exceed the speed limit was during the helicopter shot taken of the cars when driving on the George Washington Bridge.
I have lots of respect for Bill Hickman but the chase in The Seven-Ups in no way compares to the one in Bullitt. Steve McQueen did his own driving in Bullitt and his 1968 Ford Mustang GT is a way cooler car than anything in The Seven-Ups! A big deal was made about the car chase when The Seven-Ups was released but it really wasn't very good. Cringe worthy is the sound of a dual exhaust, 8 cyl. manual, overdubbed on Scheider's automatic 6 cyl., single exhaust, Pontiac Ventura Sprint. I don't understand why the producers would do that, it was an insult to the audience, Bill Hickman couldn't possibly have had anything to do with that decision.
One of my favorites!!!! Roy S was a great actor!!!
A forgotten "cold-weather-NY" classic....... but, also derivative of what came before...

Great underrated movie
love Tony Bianco when the tells the killer," you don't know this guy, once he starts looking, he won't stop"! referring to cop Roy Scheider.
