Has anyone noticed that all the comments for all B-52s songs are nice and positive? Perhaps that’s the band’s greatest legacy: the ability to bring out the good in people
A certain amount of people lead those who are uneducated, come from a moment that they could not keep their pants down. Now it's somebody else's responsibility... Any idea's?
Haha, that's amazing since B52s are so cutting edge and controversial, how about dirty back road, they are awesome and better than Beatles with their sanitised songs
I got to style Cindy's hair in Memphis a couple of weeks ago. She asked what was my favorite song and I told her this one. She seemed alittle surprised but smiled and her face changed and she looked so "extra-beautiful" to me right then.
TheHairobert THIS is the story everyone who has a song that is special to them wishes they had to tell😀❤ Not some obviously embellished yarn about meeting your favorite celebrity and instantly becoming best friends... But a perfectly plausible and relatable incident where you get to experience a very special and personal moment with someone who enriched your life. If I were you, either I would NEVER tell a living soul that this happened...or everyone I know would be sick to death of hearing about it😁
Ricky's album and a lasting tribute to him. Due to the circumstances it was released under it went under the radar and it's a shame the group themselves choose to forget it because it's a work of genius. Rainbows is their finest song and I love them for it and I love everyone who's posted here for loving it too.
I remember someone I was on a second date with surprised me by playing this for me and the day was March 14, 1987. My name is Brenda. I was blushing. I wish we could time travel back to the 80's and listen to this song. Great times and cool music. It's a shame this song didn't get much radio airplay. 😔
It doesn't get better than this - Cindy Wilson is such a brilliant singer. This album is right up there mabye their best. Melodies to die for! God I love that I love the B 52's....always did...
This is far more than a song, it is a human observation, a comment on everyone who spots and stops for the special and important things in life, it is an important, nay critical philosophy. This is what could change our mundane lives into happy, fulfilled lives xx
I wish they would remaster Satellites. The album was so great though no promotion due to the loss of Ricky. I feel it deserves a second chance. The Cure did a tour where they performed three of their albums in their entirety. I wish the B-52s would do a tour like that. They could perform every song from Wild Planet, Whammy and Bouncing off Satellites!!
I listened to this song like 10 times last night ! (got the old cassette tape) I feel this act were SO ahead of their time; this song's style is really epitomal of the early 90's female pop sound; think Cathy Dennis, Betty Boo, Amy Grant, etc. They just MUST have had an influence. This song in particular is just SO BEAUTIFUL. Aesthetically tender and 'aquatic', expressively uplifting and enlightening; pure, wholesome and feel-good. Surely THE BEST SONG OF THE 80'S (if not of all time !).
This was originally female style of alot of 80s songs so it wasn't ahead of its time 80s had it first....alot 90s had it too but copied it from the 80s...not all of 90s music was as great as the 50s thur 80s 90s were a transition decade for music lots of changes 90s to today sounds pretty much the same.

People who say that they're fans of the B52's and only know Rock Lobster, Private Idaho and Love Shack are not true fans if they never heard all the other great songs. This is one of my favorite.
What I love most about this song is that it's not the typical B-52's song that would catch my ear because of it being a mid-tempo song, but everything about is just like...magical. Cindy is so amazing on it that it just sends chills up and down my spine. The music--the keyboards and hand claps--GENIUS!! ❤️ It's just a beautiful song.
I heard this tune 2 or 3 times 30 years ago - didn't know the artist or the title - heard it in a club a few times. Thought it was lost forever - searched random phrases of guessed lyrics - guessed "Here comes christine" B52 and this came up - this is it! Just worked out the bass line and chords on piano. My long lost love has been found. Very Happy.
What a cool song! (My maiden name is Brenda Holiday.) Someone brought this to my attention. I had never heard it or knew the lyrics. It reminded me of my 16 or 18-year-old self.
Its such a pretty song. It always cheers me since the first time i heard it in 1986. The meaning is questionable but i always believed it was about a woman who was either mentally ill or completely high . . ."good friends on the ceiling. How did they get there?". She's looking up at them because she's on her back, completely stoned (?). Brinda was loved and understood and accepted by the song maker. Thanks Cindy.
My daughter just sent me a picture of a rainbow while she is in Monterrey, CA and it reminded me of the exact day it was played for me. My name is Brenda and it was March 14, 1987. It was played for me by my infatuation on our second date which became her father in 1998. Wish time travel was possible. The sun was shining, the flowers were blooming and there was magic in the air. If I had flowers I would have put them in my hair. Too bad we had to divorce 21 years later. No regrets and love this song.
So pretty but still makes me feel so dang sad. I strangely wish that I were older, cooler, and able to tell the band how powerful this song is, while at some party full of all wonderful people. I’m longing to be a part of their world that passed over 30 years ago. 🥲
One of the (many) beauties of this album is the brilliant use of the Fairlight - Juicy Jungle, Wig are two that benefit tremendously from that swooping sound you mention.
I bought this when CDs where first coming out. I always wondered why this wasn't a single as it was my all time favorite song on the Bouncing Off the Satellites album. So happy to know such an obscure song is not as obscure as I thought.
Reminds me of the time I visited my friend in LA in 1989 and he had this playing all the time in his car…..this is the first time I've heard since then….
Brings back everything. I can smell summer flowers, riding my skateboard with Brenda the Cute girl two doors down. Kissing, holding hands.stargazing. If time travel was possible I would give everything to take the world back to those days.

My favorite B-52's song of all time. I got this album (yes, album) for Christmas, 1986. I remember opening it up and seeing the giant paper sunflower and the dedication to Ricky and crying. Best present ever. Thank you thank you thank you thank you.
@topshoptights I also heard this on KROQ back in 86 and it was the first CD I ever bought. I bought it at Rockaway Records on Glendale Blvd in Silver Lake. At $18 I remember thinking CDs were crazy expensive, but I love this song!
I associate this song with loss. I was breaking up with a girlfriend after a 6 year relationship when this came out. I always think of this song when I think about then and later in years people who I cared deeply about who passed away. Like now. Unfortunately now. If you want to feel a little happier about loss try a good recording of Beethoven's 9th.
