I think im gonna make my 1st baby 2 this song!!! I wanna cry this is so good--2 see these guys play with such passion and conviction...God is Love--and phenomonal fusion jazz* lol, Peace
Great take - once the soundman turned Kirk's mike on. Very hot stuff Live at Montreux, Switzerland, 17 July, 1985, **** BOB JAMES - keyb, DEAN BROWN - g, KIRK WHALUM - sax, GARY KING - bg (1941 - 2003), HARVEY MASON - dr, DENNIS HENDERSON - perc
Excellent stuff. Nice to see what could be called 'easy listening' jazz actually showing that it can be very exciting, and there's plenty of interaction from these great musicians.
Great session here. Found it extremely fascinating that Kirk Whalum had the pipes to cover a bridge Bob James originally arranged with a 12 piece horn section as well as perform the solo.
Yup. The ever tasteful, soulful, give it everything you've got Kirk Whalum on sax.The vastly underrated Dean Brown burning it up it up on guitar (check out Zebra Man). Gary King (the right on the money jazz bass go to guy for many years and countless albums). The one and only Harvey Mason a percussion genius and musical treasure for all time. And of course Bob James. Pianist. Composer. Jazz band leader for my generation (Boomer) that in my mind sets the bar going forward.
You nailed it. "The vastly underrated Dean Brown burning it up ...", profoundly stated. IMHO, there is no better jazz performance than this, by Bob James and Co. This was one of those periods in time that will live on as a defining moment for this music. Have you ever heard anything like it since?
AMAZING!!!!! Never thought I'd see this live! THANK YOU! And such a great quality too...words can't explain the gratitude...I was only 4 yrs old when this performance went on. Good Music is truly timeless!
This is an incredible video of what smooth jazz music or any jazz music should be about, and when you put these jazz greats together the unbelievable usually happen. I get inspired and excited every time I watch this video. Thanks a million for whoever posted this vid.
Gary Clark is soooooooo underrated here I mean between tuning down his bass string and just ahhhhhhhhhhh omg switching. To bossa nova bass line mid solo done I'm so done the rythm section is just so so so so far out of this solar ststem
Love this song a whole lot..is it just me or did the bassist get in the way of things by pulling every trick in his bag ..it got annoying after a while... he stole some of the beautiful content of the song by overriding with his tricks..that sux
That bass player was "all that and a bag o' chips" - killer! Harvey Mason totally throwing down on drums as well.
One of the greatest Montreux performances of all times! I've watched this video AT LEAST 100 times. Insane!
lucaspenido ha ha me too and more
Love it when Bob looks at Kirk after his solo and smiles.
Kirk Whalum is simply off the chart on this stellar performance, it just don't get any better then dat!
Excellent guitar, sax, percussion and magic piano mister BOB JAMES the best musicians.
I can't stop watching this video. Probably watched it 30 times in the last 2 weeks! Amazing!

Sublime. Exceptional. Timeless.
今となっては、2020年の年始に、今はなき名古屋ブルーノートでこの曲を聴けたのば。本当にラッキーだったな〜
That switch over at 2:45 was smooth as hell

Fantastic. A young Kirk Whalum playing a Yamaha 62R Soprano! Priceless.
10/8/20, and this is the very first time I've ever heard Whalum on soprano. Wow!
Bob James - Keyboards
Kirk Whalum - Saxophones
Dean Brown - Guitar
Gary King - Bass
Harvey Mason - Drums
Dennis Henderson - Percussion

I really don't get how someone could downvote this...
I bet Kirk Whalum can put magic on any wind instrument.

Amazing performance by the King of bass
IMHO he over played especially in Bob's piano solo, he didn't support it he stepped all over it
