Many thanks for sharing, it was such an honour to be invited to run our McLaren in the demo and so pleased to see so many race fans enjoy the noise and spectacle of these beasts of single seater racing
New Zealand and Australia still run these cars in a regular season of racing. Nz has a legend named Kenny Smith. He's in his 70s and still races these beasts.
Great to hear these F5000 cars up close and on track... fantastic vid.... would you believe that I have a 1969/70 F5000 gathering dust in my garage, not been used or started for 15 years though... must get it running soon, now I've seen your vid... thanks!!!!
The number 64 car is ex-Al Unser and I think now Lyons family owned and driven by Michael Lyons, it is a Lola T400. Another ground breaking design by Ed Broadley!
Watched this on ITV4 and you couldn't get a proper feel for the sound because the commentator never shut up. On this vid though you get a real feel for it. Good job, well done Pete.
The sight of these cars pure nostalgia, the sound awesome. Even the snow and wind chill which felt like minus 8 could not detract from the pure joy of this demo.
I worked F5000 races as a corner worker in 1975 at Pocono, Road Atlanta, and Mid-Ohio. Those cars were scary fast. Brian Redman was the class of the field.
What about that Noise!!! Traction control in those cars was your right foot. I think it is so cool that these car owners still race these stunning machines instead of keeping them under cover in a warehouse somewhere. 👌👍
Great videa & sound. We were there for the weekend and it was immense all round - felt sorry for the bikes, it would have been good to have seen them go round but the conditions were very slidey!
Only just come across this. Loved playing with the mclaren in the 4WD even though they said they’d come flying past. If you’re ever up north and free let us know. Could pop in to the raceshop
F1 and Indycar for that matter! The f5000 sounds awesome! The roadsters at Indy would have sounded like that before the Indycar series started and before they put the 2.2 v6 motors in there, though it’s cool Indy is powered on e85!
There’s no substitute for cubic inches. Big V engines throbbing, tyres scrabbling for grip. Oh yes & freezing your taters off, just so you can say, I was there. Heady stuff Peter. Big thumbs up 👍🏻 Geof
Fantastic you simply must go it is three days of classic car heaven. The Gold Cup is held on 24th 25th 26th August this year I have attended the last ten years. Not only F5000's but F2's as well. E type challenge as well watch them go round Cascades on three wheels! Super Tourer touring cars from the 90's as well and 70's. RS 500's with flames... check. The list goes on and on... huge grids as well
I would’ve loved to get along over the weekend, but managed to watch the live streams. Another good production Peter, knowing when to be silent shows understanding what your viewers want, it’s just a shame we couldn’t feel it too!! I found your background music atmospheric, if you don’t mind sharing, where do you source it?
Absolutely LOVE these cars, shame i wasnt here when a full grid of them blasted past back in the day. I have however had the pleasure to be right up and close to some of them firing up at the Oulton park gold cup many times, check out some of the vids on my channel.
Gavin Ivers Yeah well if you look at the pedal box of a T332 there’s basically nothing between the driver and whatever he hit. Wishbone or not, broken legs were distressingly common.
Give it 30 years, and F1 will sound like this. Below... Shhhh..... Well? Did you hear anything above? No. You didn't. That's because F1 will have gone all electric. But what will I care? I'll be well into my 80's by then and sat in some old folks home (That's if I'm still alive!) rocking in my favourite arm chair that doesn't rock! Pinching the female nurses bottoms if they're careless enough to let temptation get the better of me and denying it by pretending to be asleep. all this while I'll be reminiscing on what cars, all those years ago, sounded like. Pinched nurses bottoms and the memory of cars with V8's, V10's and V12's. Sigh... Roll on old age. You can get anyway with anything when everyone thinks your senile... :-)) Of course, all the nurses with pinched bottoms will just think I'm a dirty old bugger. I just bloody well hope they do :-))
GarciaCompany I don’t miss drivers getting killed or seriously injured. There’s a thing called the Lola limp. Look it up. Gordon Spice, Graeme Lawrence, Kevin Bartlett, Warwick Brown and Alan Hamilton are still living with the pain 40 years later. Others paid with their lives. No price on safety.
yes i do like the sound of F5000's, have done for 45 years, but imagine imposing PUSHROD engines on F1- talk about regressing 40 years. i'm guessing this bonehead has never heard real F1 engines, like a v16 BRM or V12 Ferrari and yes they did struggle for grip - ON 40 YEAR OLD TYRES. there is a reason why F1 don't race at Goodwood - they are too fast!!!! - sorry
I'm guessing the 'bonehead' you are referring to is me ?! I know as much about the history of Goodwood as most having watched racing and driven the circuit many times over the last 10 years. I wasn't suggesting imposing an engine change on F1 and am fully aware what different F1 engines sound like, from the modern hybrid cars, to V8, V10 and V12. Hopefully you can enjoy the video for what it is, a celebration of great noise !
Great to see the purple Begg FM5 all the way from New Zealand. He obviously wasn't going to stay in the pits after that trip
!
Many thanks for sharing, it was such an honour to be invited to run our McLaren in the demo and so pleased to see so many race fans enjoy the noise and spectacle of these beasts of single seater racing
Gave up on UK motor sport when these beasts stop racing rarely seen in Historic racing either why?
Love F5000, have seen them at historic events in Australia quite a few times, so raw and brutal..
New Zealand and Australia still run these cars in a regular season of racing. Nz has a legend named Kenny Smith. He's in his 70s and still races these beasts.
I've seen some of the racing from NZ on RUclips. Absolutely fantastic :-)
Hayden Murrell Google S5000. It’s coming in May.
Saw them run at the Wanneroo Raceway Festival of Speed. Dani Ric had a RBR car at the event doing laps.
There's a reason why we are petrol heads, this is one of them! I could listen to engines like that all day, and they look pretty awesome too
Yes and sound much better than most of the modern music, like that wailing baby girl beat house stuff..
That why I made this vid...just for the sound !
LOL !
Great to hear these F5000 cars up close and on track... fantastic vid.... would you believe that I have a 1969/70 F5000 gathering dust in my garage, not been used or started for 15 years though... must get it running soon, now I've seen your vid... thanks!!!!

👍
F5000's Real F1 cars. Bring em back.
My Uncles used to race that Lola T142 (when it's was #37), still probably one of my favourite cars of all time. Sounds great and looks even better!
Wow, that great to hear 👍
Watched this on ITV4 and you couldn't get a proper feel for the sound because the commentator never shut up. On this vid though you get a real feel for it. Good job, well done Pete.
Thanks John. More 76MM action coming onto the channel on Friday at 6pm :-)
Love it, that's the racing cars of my childhood. And great access too.
I was very lucky to have a 'magic tabard' !!
Good to see the Kiwi cars there too! I'm sure that was a Begg?
The sight of these cars pure nostalgia, the sound awesome. Even the snow and wind chill which felt like minus 8 could not detract from the pure joy of this demo.
I can only imagine how amazing it would have been to see these racing in period with a full grid !
Need at least one old school racing championship with modern safety cockpits
Terrific video sir! Top item on my bucket list is to attend the Goodwood Revival! You folks are a true class act. Good on you all
Thanks Greg 👍
Awesome rumble great to see a Begg FM5 , memories of Tasman series
They do sound mega !
I worked F5000 races as a corner worker in 1975 at Pocono, Road Atlanta, and Mid-Ohio. Those cars were scary fast. Brian Redman was the class of the field.
Nice 👌
What about that Noise!!! Traction control in those cars was your right foot. I think it is so cool that these car owners still race these stunning machines instead of keeping them under cover in a warehouse somewhere. 👌👍
Totally agree. Wait till Friday's vid with a SWB Ferrari 250 worth best part of £15 million being driven in the snow !!!!
Just love the sound!
Just ace...you could feel it in your chest :-)
I was lucky enough to be in Montreal for the Grand Prix in 1994 and 1995 when F1 cars sounded amazing!!!!
Oh wow 😮
Great videa & sound. We were there for the weekend and it was immense all round - felt sorry for the bikes, it would have been good to have seen them go round but the conditions were very slidey!
You need a brave pill or two to ride a bike round Goodwood on a warm and sunny day...a sensible decision was made !
What a fantastic sound! Music to the ears.Superb video Pete 🍻🏁🏁
Cheers :-)
proper race cars !!
Oh yes !
That looked like a great day out.
It sure was. More action from 76MM is coming on Friday :-)
Only just come across this. Loved playing with the mclaren in the 4WD even though they said they’d come flying past. If you’re ever up north and free let us know. Could pop in to the raceshop
OK 👍

Oh yeah!! Absolutely phenomenal!!! That must have been unreal!! Brilliant 👍🏻
They sounded beautiful, but the Group 5 cars in Fridays video maybe sound even better :-)
Petrol Ped awesome, can’t wait. Cheers 👍🏻
Not Adrian Newey aero - raw power and the beginnings of aero - so nice to see - thx for the vid
One of the cars had no aero at all :-0
I'm a bit jealous of you there Pete. Looked like fun. 😎
Being on the pit wall is VERY special !
Petrol ped come up north to oulton parks gold cup event you get to see these cars full on race each other it sounds amazing when there full throttle
I should do. I am from Cheshire originally so should make the trip up north :-)
Sound amazing..what a great day.
They did sound ace, but the Group 5 cars and the NASCAR in tonights video sound even better :-)
Real sound from real cars such a shame F1 has gone to pot bring back these glory days 😍 goodwood
There’s no substitute for cubic inches. Big V engines throbbing, tyres scrabbling for grip. Oh yes & freezing your taters off, just so you can say, I was there. Heady stuff Peter. Big thumbs up 👍🏻
Geof
Cheers Geof :-)
I saw them at Philip Island they are the coolest and it should be revamped with a simple rule book with an exotic materials and process ban..
Congratulations excellent images and expertise, you can know what audio, video equipment did you use?
Panasonic 4K camcorder and RODE shotgun mic 👍
Glad you enjoyed it 😜
Proper V8 Engine noise can’t beat it👍👍🏁🏁🏁
Mega !
proper V8 engines have MORE than a single camshaft, that's why they rev to more than 7,000rpm
Really cool! These are some angry little cars!
Shame I missed you yesterday! I hope to meet you in future!
It was a shame mate. but I'm sure there will be other times !
Petrol Ped Ok
The sound you captured was epic. Well done. Hope you didnt get sunstroke on Sunday!!
Always difficult to capture the sound but my mic did well :-)
Want to see these cars race properly? Go to the Gold Cup at Oulton Park August 2019 it is the 50th F5000 anniversary celebration as well
Ooo...I'll check that out 👍
Fantastic you simply must go it is three days of classic car heaven. The Gold Cup is held on 24th 25th 26th August this year I have attended the last ten years. Not only F5000's but F2's as well. PETROL PED Oulton Park Gold Cup is three days away... are you going?
I would’ve loved to get along over the weekend, but managed to watch the live streams. Another good production Peter, knowing when to be silent shows understanding what your viewers want, it’s just a shame we couldn’t feel it too!! I found your background music atmospheric, if you don’t mind sharing, where do you source it?
I use a site called Epidemic Music. Just £10 per month for royalty free music of all genres :-)
Peter - Thank you I’ll take a look.
Sweet sound!!
It was indeed :-)
Those good old Chevy V8s .I heard them from my place 1.5 miles away.
Nearly as loud as your car mate ;-)
Bring back f5000.
F1 needs competition
Just awesome!👍
Cheers Yves :-)
Still the best ever single seaters V8 Chevy power and looks that make modern single seaters look like scalatrix
Absolutely LOVE these cars, shame i wasnt here when a full grid of them blasted past back in the day. I have however had the pleasure to be right up and close to some of them firing up at the Oulton park gold cup many times, check out some of the vids on my channel.
Will do 👍
is this winter time?
March, so it was VERY cold !
pure beauty
Dumb question - who/what is car 18, the one following the Sid Taylor car No. 1 ?
is a f5000 basically a small singer seater with a muscle car engiine??
the best part? you can still build the exact same engine minus the expensive injection system
You can always tell a former F5000 Lola driver when its cool, he limps....called the Lola limp
LOL...not heard that one before !
It come about when they crached them and hit the front corners of the car, as the wishbone would go through the tub and into the drivers akles..
Gavin Ivers Yeah well if you look at the pedal box of a T332 there’s basically nothing between the driver and whatever he hit. Wishbone or not, broken legs were distressingly common.
They sounded great but in period the races were processional and often a high retirement rate.
Give it 30 years, and F1 will sound like this. Below...
Shhhh.....

LOL...this did make my chuckle !
Cripes PP. You're up early!!
About to go to the gym but first job on my list is always replying to everyones comments ;-)
Chevrolet V8s WoW what a noise
"Five brave enough to go out" and the rest are just want to be racer's
Ok just got
Cars are great...the rest can be edited out
Thanks ;-)
Mmmhm. Bygone era of brave drivers and bare minimum of safety.
There is nothing to the cars ! Driving cars like that in the snow took some balls !
AWD formula car dont see this everyday
Unfortunately see a bit to much of your face😂…otherwise 👍
Four and a half minutes before a car moves. Shut up and show the cars racing!!!
Why all this talk?
What talk 🤔
yes i do like the sound of F5000's, have done for 45 years, but imagine imposing PUSHROD engines on F1- talk about regressing 40 years. i'm guessing this bonehead has never heard real F1 engines, like a v16 BRM or V12 Ferrari and yes they did struggle for grip - ON 40 YEAR OLD TYRES.
there is a reason why F1 don't race at Goodwood - they are too fast!!!! - sorry
I'm guessing the 'bonehead' you are referring to is me ?! I know as much about the history of Goodwood as most having watched racing and driven the circuit many times over the last 10 years.
