The reason why Trash Taste was such a huge success is the same reason why Top Gear was such a huge success; It all came down to the fact that the show was more about a bunch of guys clowning around and having a good time doing and talking about anything and everything, which occasionally included anime. The fact that you guys had the foresight to make the show open ended enough to appeal to just about any person watching it was a blessing and iit paid off incredibaly. Keep up the good work.

Even for non-weeb people there is a lot Trash Taste offers because there are many other relatable topics discussed. Plus, in a weird way, COVID might have helped Trash Taste. Things were shut, you couldn't see a lot of people face to face, so the podcast became a way you could vicariously have the experience of an interesting conversation with your friends.

I think what makes Trash Taste special is a mix of factors
    - Not being too into Anime, not too Weeb for people that just casually watch anime
    - Fish out of water, 2/3 of the hosts are new to Japan. It's still cool to see Joey insights. It's cool seeing people talk about a place people only see in anime.
    - In person, 10,000% better than a Discord call.
    - All the hosts are Content Creators, it's cool to see your insights into the inner workings of RUclips. Also when other people host Podcasts with their friends. I the viewer don't care about someone I haven't heard off (Mean of me to say but It's true)
    - Good auguring, Conner could easily back down and agree with the other hosts but by arguing it's fun. He will admit when he is wrong or if a take is very dumb, so it's all in good fun.
Love all three of the boys :D

Trash taste doesn't feel "forced", you can tell that they're just talking and hanging out like real friends do. Always a happy mood, no awkward silences, genuine conversations and real emotions. Also being on camera in real life instead of a discord voice call makes such a huge difference, the body language, reactions and everyone being in the same room really makes a simple conversation feel alive.

Im used to unedited podcasts where theres lots of silent moments or akward moments, but ive honestly gotten used to there "polished" way of presenting their podcast, and it seems you do too.

Yeah you pretty much nailed it. They took the 3 biggest anime/weeb channels in the world and combined them into on channel, then loyal-ized that audience through guests, broad topic coverage, good chemistry, edited/polished podcast uploads, and the occasional special. Though, i think its important to note that the majority of their conversations revolve around otaku culture, and japanz and living in japan. Weebs are natrually curious and interested in these things, so i think that was a smart move on their part to include all of otaku and japanese culture in the podcast. That, and the fact that its based in japan, which lends authenticity and credibility to the podcast as well.

The best part about it is the fact that since they've Established themselves, there really isn't a need for "Special Guests" every week. This is the main drawback of most podcast. Some are only as good as the guest they have for that particular episode.

The reason why trash taste works is because firstly the boys talk about real daily stuff, drama, shit takes, and sometimes inspirational stuff and poop talks. Thats the reason that it basically connects to many people around the world and ig thanks to connor it didnt become a anime podcast because then their niche would be fixed and it would literally be for anime watchers. Due to the pandemic too many people couldnt go out and meet with their friends and due to that too people just wanted to listen to some people talk about stuff that normal friends do. The trios had their own channel and people who watch someone most of the time want ways to know them better. Trash Taste contains everything for anyone.

I's so cool hearing how they worked as a Team: Garnt with the ideas, Joey helping at Japanese meetings and Connor with all the tech.
Trash Taste works because as Garnt said, their brand and brand image is not stuck on one thing, they can use it to expand upon any topic and probably other markets if they want to, so it doesn't ever feel stale or stuck and even if you don't care that much about anime they talk about other topics they also enjoy, topics they know of or topics they don't know of at all XD.
Plus the main thing is their chemistry and how it's clear they're true friends with different backgrounds, it's really fascinating to hear their stories and opinions, it also helps that they were youtubers before making the podcast so the 3 had years of experience on being entertaining for the camera.

A story of a fan… TT is successful because it appeals to everyone! I came to TT oddly I think. I’m older was not into anime but my hs/college age kids were and that had absolutely no influence on me at all! Their shows, games, etc were what they did and It didn’t interest me. I got Covid on 3-19-20 (later confirmed) right at the beginning when there ware no tests and they didn’t want you in the hospital unless you were critical. So I was literally sealed in a room in my house, lots of fear and my ‘no second free’ busy life screeched to a fucking halt as Cali locked down the day after I went in. I got better, thankfully, after a few weeks but from the moment I got sick I only had my phone so RUclips became my friend. I started watching travel shows (my big anniversary trip to Hawaii got murdered by covid so I was salty) I kept running out of content as nothing new being made and I was watching about 12 hours a day. I eventually got to Abroad in Japan. Watched and rewatched it all. Found out Chris was going to be on this podcast with Joey whom I only knew from Journey Across Japan. So I watched that podcast. I Loved it. Great friends ( clearly ) and totally non toxic. Perfectly matched like a fine meal w wine and dessert! I watched the other few TT episodes and didn’t get the anime references but it didn’t matter, these boys were fun to listen to. My older kid, in the age range of the bois, moved cross country the month TT started and we used to talk all the time and I immediately missed those spirited conversations. This TT show I found sort of stood in for those for me as I frequently pause the show and blurt out at the screen. Lol - I’m not the only one who does this I hope. TT really feels like you the viewer are just there with them in a social setting. That was huge to me as over the course of 2020 most of my friends left in one way or another due to Covid and changes in jobs and society. The isolation of the lockdowns lasted a long time but as it eased I had no one left to hang with, TT was looked forward to very much. It wasn’t like the infernal zoom meetings melting my brain, it was legit fun. Anyway one day my kiddo still at home walked in on me watching a TT and was like ‘oh my god, what are you doing?’ And I tried to explain what TT was, only to have him laugh wildly in my face ( he’s been a Garnt and Joey fan for years ). I had no idea he knew anything about these people. It was quite the moment and we talk about TT weekly now. I became interested in anime too and started watching. Now I have this huge thing in common with my kiddos I never expected. Weirds em out honestly and we like different shows but it’s nice. My spouse and I both loved Battle of the Planets ( Gotchaman) and other similar Americanized shows as kids in the 70s so I guess it was always there but who knew. TT pulled us into a whole new genre of entertainment and it’s been very refreshing. I love TT and now my entrainment comes from these YTubers, Streamers, and Vtubers in this crazy interconnected TT cinematic universe. So Garnt you accomplished more than you know! Thank you! Thank you from the bottom of my Heart, all three of you! We will be here supporting and watching as long as you do it, even as life ramps up the busy again we will make time for TT! You’ve made a few fans for life here!
