  • You need to learn this valuable lesson from my bullion dealer before you buy another ounce of precious metals! In this video my bullion dealer teaches us a lot about fake or counterfeit gold coins, silver coins, gold bullion, silver bullion, and how to protect yourself from getting fooled. My local coin shop dealer Tim Marschner of The Coin and Stamp Shop works with a recent purchaser of twenty $20 Gold pieces to verify if one of the gold coins is fake! I also ping a $20 Liberty Head gold coin with my pocket pinger and what I find is absolutely amazing to hear! A precious metals stacker used HIS precious metals tester to check his gold and silver coins, bars, and rounds, and SO SHOULD YOU! Protect your wealth from declining purchasing power and keep stacking precious metals...just make sure your silver and gold are legit!

Yankee, the pocket pingers are incredible. I don't buy anything without using it. I was at a Coin Show in Broken Arrow and a guy thought he had a fake Morgan so we tested a real one and then the fake. The real one tested good and the fake tested bad. I'm truly sold on them.

She asked me what she should invest some of her inheritance. I told her to buy silver and or gold bullion. For Xmas I went to Coins and Carets here in Kalispell Mt and bought her 10 oz of silver bars. Too get her started. She now goes each paycheck and buys at least 5oz of silver. Hopefully ole dad gave her some good advice. I've been collecting coins and bullion since I was 13. Now 54.....it's definitely been a great investment for me all these years.

Our world has 4 fundamental practices that are problematic.
If we dont understand the causes of a problem we will address the symptoms or actors, not the causes.
1st Large private and Central banks have obtained the Exclusive franchise to create ALL new Currency as Debt, at interest. An increasing population needs an increase in currency, but it is ALL created as debt bearing interest.
This indebts the whole world, every person, every government, in totally unpayable debts, enslaving us all to bankers through personal debt or ever increasing oppressive and unjust taxation, permits, licences, registrations, regulations, rates, duties, fees, fines, levies, surcharges, adinfinitum, of which an increasing volume goes straight to the debt creators, who created it for free. (At zero cost to themselves.)
2nd. Virtually no limitation plus fractional and recirculating fiat currency allows banks to effectively create massive new Currency volumes as DEBT, blowing massive bubbles (in housing/stocks) which devalues everyone's savings, work, pension by raising all prices. We call this inflation, but it's really devaluation. (Shrinkflation adds to our reduction and desolation. )
      The fix ?
Go back to Sound Metalic Money and stop all banks and financial institutions loaning out more than they have on deposit, but further, DO NOT ALLOW ANYTHING BUT Metalic Money TO BE CALLED AN ASSET OR COLATERAL. Real Estate loans have been classified as collateral. This allows the bank to call the loan an asset, and sell it, or loan against it, which helps blow real estate bubbles. Today >80% of Bank loans are for Real Estate, 40 years ago > 80% was for industry.
Return currency creation to national treasury departments with a zero Inflation policy.
This will not create inflation like some bankers/economists would have you think. It is not WHO creates currency that drives the constant devaluation of your work & money, it is THE VOLUME per population/ productivity. The banks increased the base currency supply by over 65 % since March 2020 & 300% since 2008. This is multiplied as real estate bubbles lever up equity to underwrite new loans. You can't spend it off planet, and we've had no increase in population or productivity. How can this not devalue all our savings, wages and retirement funds by a similar % as it enters the economy ?
3rd. Fiat currency whether paper OR DIGITAL has no intrinsic value, thus it cannot be used as a long term store of value, particularly in an ever expanding fiat system and it is really only taxation and the 'legal currency' label attached that creates only (artificial) demand for fiat currency.
      The fix ?
Return to Silver, Gold, Copper & Nickel currency, designated by weight, not cents/dollars. These will find their own local value. These can't be printed to oblivion, have intrinsic value, and are a safeguard against bankers counterfeit loans. Continue to keep the manufacture of Gold & Silver rounds by private mints & foundries to help keep the government mints honest.
Do not allow bankers and economists of the current system to con you into believing there isn't enough Metalic Money. There is a lot of the peoples Gold sitting in every Central Bank doing nothing. Monetise it now. You mix 1% gold, 99% copper or Nickle and you have Gold backed currency. Same with Silver & Nickle. Mint 10th ounce, 2 10ths, 5 10ths and 1 ounce. Or grams in similar weights. Never give it a 'value number,' which is a lie. Give it its weight & purity, and let the market decide what it will buy. Call it 'slow money," like 'slow food.' It's slower for sure, but it's 10 times better for you.
Probably necessary to nationalise mines & pay shareholders out in metals. We are aiming at a more just, more perfect union, and that requires we treat shareholders justly and make them whole while preserving a mining and exploration industry. So gently, thoughtfully, carefully on this one.
4th The 'world bank' and IMF are your friendly international arms of the Federal Reserve, who loan worthless US currency invented at zero cost to enslaved nations of people to purchase necessities, when their own commodities or worthless currency would do just as well. This ensures the indebtedness of nation's simply to survive.
Correct these 4 Principles and >80 % of a nation's problems would disappear. Do not allow your masters the Debt slave creator's to tell you it can't be done. They are not seeking your best interests, but theirs. It is easily done within 3 years if a Global effort was made.
Beware. The FED, IMF, WEF wants you totally enslaved with Digital currency. Convert your garbage fiat currency into Gold and Silver or prepare for destruction. Come to think of it, you better prepare for destruction anyway.
The bankers motto is : 'Preserve your Capital at all costs.' The bankers are buying Gold. We the people can afford Silver.

Honestly I would love to see a video of Tim speaking about staking in Europe, from that perspective. He is so knowledgeable! Especially for the fact that here we have +20% VAT taxation for every damn coin we buy. In Romania, for example, I have to buy an extra 19% for every maple leaf. So here, a really good price for one its 36,50 USD, and an American Eagle its 50$ without transport fees. Yep, beside that, from 2023 Brussels imposed VAT for silver for the only country that was without, Estonia, home for European Mint, one of the biggest bullion dealer from Europe.

You can't assume that because you buy it from a reputable place (i.e. Tim, SD Bullion, etc.) that it's real. You have to check. I know it's a splurge but I am glad I bought one a few years ago when they were still around $700. I test EVERYTHING I buy no matter where I get it from. Great video!

Expensive is relative to some degree. The basic Sigma is running about $900. The pro model which apparently is more resistant to surface coatings and has some other neat capabilities, is a bit under $2,000, or roughly the price of one ounce of gold. If you only buy a round once in a blue moon probably not worth it.
If I was a serious stacker, which I'm not for many reasons, I think I'd pop for the pro unit. If sellers saw you consistently whipping that out, that alone would probably eliminate any temptation to offer you a fugazi or even one they have slight doubts about.

Yankee, another test I’d love to see Tim do is test a 1964 Kennedy and then test a 1970s Kennedy. They both tested good / in the brackets for 90% silver for me (just on the base, no wand used), which worries me. I’d love to know if he gets a similar result and/or why that is.

This is a known issue. The coins were designed to have the same magnetic properties so that vending machines would accept the new coins.
The problem of course is counterfeiters are also watching and learning, and could tweak their alloy to fool the Sigm machine on gold and silver.
The good news is it's very difficult to make a coin that tests good and is also the right weight and shape.

I recently found 332 forged William III half crowns, shillings and sixpences in one hole metal detecting in a field Leek, UK. Like Tim said it was a cottage industry and this area coined the phrase "Flash Money" as Flash is an area in Leek. Lots of families and farms were producing coins and notes.. This particular guy George Fearns was notorious and caught by a sting between the Royal Mint and Scotland Yard, and was hung in 1801. Full story is in the American Digger magazine or on my youtube chanel.

I see some really tempting offers online all the time, but I’ve never been one to buy a pig in a poke; I like to visually examine any PM’s that I buy, and, if possible, to physically hold it in my hand before I turn over any of my (increasingly worthless) Fiat currency for it….

They didn't even take the time to file down this "sprue stump" which as we all can see--is easily discernable under magnification. That being said, I LOVE (genuine) gorgeous pre-33 liberty head rounds.

Great video Yankee! I recently purchased a Sigma using a code that Silver Dragons put out a few months back. Not a cheap investment but definitely pays for itself if it saves you from buying a fake gold coin. One thing I will say, not sure if Tim knows this... but I was trying to test some proof state quarters that were still in the plastic case (didn't want to break it open to see if they are 90% of course)... so I used the Sigma Basic PMV and they tested out as 90%. So I said great.... well I threw on a regular clad circulated quarter on it for 💩 and giggles and it also tested/passed as 90%. I thought I was losing my mind so I cracked open the case on the proof quarters, and they too were clad. Long story long, I contacted the Simga Dealer I bought it from and he explained that clad and 90% silver both have similar resistivity values which is the reason for the false positive (this is the only test the Sigma Basic model does). You have to get the Sigma pro or the pro mini to test specific gravity. Cheaper way instead of upgrading to the pro or the pro mini for this reason alone is simply weigh the coin and you'll see if it's silver or clad... or you can also get the ping tester which I also have.

This was an eye opener for me. I knew that the chances of getting a fake is more of a probability due to the current economic situation of the world. I purchased some Morgans, you know the ones on "special" from a TV ad. 5 of them. Well as it turned out, and I just got my pocket pinger today, they tested real. I was relieved. But I did make the plunge and I did order a sigma last week. I need to start making sure that my investments are going to be good investments as I start looking towards shows and coin shops. I have no issues at putting the tester on the counter when it comes, to make sure that I am getting what I pay for. Thanks for the great video, education and certainly the advise from both you and Tim. When I get back to NH in the spring, I am definitely going to stop in and see Tim.
