    I am one of these people with food allergies- Multiple food allergies. Approximately 30% of all food I cannot consume due to ingredient mix. Life is not fun, I have nearly died a dozen times. In time I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis as well. Everything I eat I scrutinize.
    I am thankful for researchers like this, working toward a solution, so that maybe one day I can eat the foods I love again.

      At least your allergy situation is not the worst. I don't have any food allergies myself but I personally know a guy who's allergic to all kinds of meat, shellfish, nuts, etc. His allergies basically forced him to grow up as a vegan without choice

    My grandma began to develop milk allergies and because she loved milk she refused to give it up. She would drink a little bit everyday and as time passed she would add more little by little. She is now not allergic to milk. Odd but worked. Oh and when pregnant they told me don't eat this or that I didn't listen. My kids have zero allergies. Yes I ate fish a lot

      This is useful information to know there is a positive result, but it is best to work with a doctor because it can be quite dangerous for some people. I assume this means someone might need an allergy shot if they can't breath due to a severe reaction.

      I am with you on that one. Allergies are not increasing. I grew up outside and when I was a little I used to eat everything. I am now allergic 😂🤣🤣 to most stuff including most pollens, dust, egg, milk ( I also grew up in a forest area). The Doctors don`t know anything about Allergies so far either what causes or treatment 🙈🤣😂

    Food is so much processed today, that food allergies are certain! The way we cook, the way we store, and the way we feed, all makes up a part! Coming back to the base from where we started isn't possible! Modern day dairy is open to all! Then comes the culprits like vegetable oils, trans fats, processed sugar, preservatives, and none the less.... the packaging! The damn stuff is packed in the so called PLASTICS! Organic food is taken for granted, because just a drop cannot clean the ocean! The more we go into the Science, the dark side is, the more we make these byproducts, that are later realised to be harmful! Science is imperative, but Food should be kept simple! Probably, that would be the end to most of the allergies!!!

      I wish this was the case, but my severe celiac disease and my peanut / shellfood allergy is purely genetic, and I did a DNA test for this. It is not necessarily caused by chemicals, but it might be the case in addition to inherited allergies.

      Dona Banerjee, scent sensitivity is a real thing. I'm not sure what causes it, but I know it can cause a number of issues for those who have it. For me, certain types of scents induce nausea and severe migraines. Just be sure to carefully scent-test products for yourself before you buy them. Try to find either scent-free or a core group of scent-types that you can handle. For example, I can't be around stuff like Axe cologne. High chemical scents, heavily alcohol-based scents, and really musky scents tend to trigger reactions for me. I look for lighter things like mints, fruits, some woodsy scents, and light florals. More naturally based scents tend to work better for me and so I look for essential oils, but that isn't a hard rule and doesn't work for everyone, or even me, all the time. Try to keep track of what does or doesn't work so you can narrow down what causes your reactions.

      I believe there maybe some truth in this. Some of the reasons why foods are modified (to cook faster, to “crossbreed” the better taste of one variety with the cooking speed of another or to make foods “look” better) are basically changing the genetic makeup of foods for irrelevant reasons. We ate the foods out the ground and off the trees for thousands of years without the need for them to cook faster, for example.
      Have you walked through an orchard lately? No longer full of beautiful apple trees with fruit nestling in their branches; instead it’s genetically modified, heavily fruit laden sticks; made to grow no taller than 5ft so that no machines are required to harvest and altered to bear triple the amount of fruit a full size tree would have. Genetic modification for nothing more than ease of “production”.
      This excessively modified farming is stripping nutrients and goodness from the soil, making the easy to pick bumper harvests taste bland and allergies to be on the rise as our bodies take in these frankenplants. (Just my own theory after watching numerous documentaries on food modifications in the 21st Century).
      I mean... no wonder Jesus was able to feed 5000 with a few loaves & fish.... were 4997 gluten or fish allergic..?

  • @sruthi671

    Food allergies are more prevalent in developed nations and extremely rare in developing countries. It's due to children not being exposed to various foods/pathogens so they develop IgE antibodies against food; the immune system marks it as foreign. So perhaps children for the first few years should only have organic food which means no processed food. And they shouldn't live in an overly hygienic environment.

  • @allieknox1622
    @allieknox1622 5 лет назад

    god that introduction makes you think that was going to be someone who knows there stuff no disrespect well done for all they achievements but do they titles mean anything ?the main cause of allergys is not genetic or immune its life style ...for example fad diets and jumping on the new thing to be cool,,,, 1 in 100 people for example in britian are actually celiac...and like America and and Australia the number are growing because you are glorifying it...god bless! people with a real allergy because you are making it more expensive for them and at a bigger risk.."the whole opinion of they cant all be celiac"...is risk enough if your out for dinner being served food...so as this problem spirals out of control you are doing a safe test in a lab to slowly introduce a trace back into someones diet...maybe you should be questioning the 400,000 grants you want funded ? those statistics bother me also so America and Australia have been doing the g,f diet before us and we are definitely on the rise in great Britain ...the story of the twins that's awful I agree but think of all the babies being born today whos parents aren't even going to introduce any allergens at all that is a scary thought ...food challenge?!!! your going to need a lot of people on standby when this starts...brilliant name dropping of all these fantastic people ,I'm sure that the new ideas and scientific breakthrough??? was there all along its called common sense...ask any of the older generation ...a new opinion from someone that is supposedly trained and knows what they are talking about got listened to by all the other goons with the same degree in self importance (qualification,name drop alert!) yawn and social media ?fads however you put it has gone mad...the entire health organisation should be apologising for making a mistake by saying you shouldn't introduce babies to food early on etc,not you though I'm sure after all you will be quite a sensible parent of five and probably ignored your own medical advice you dished out to your patients! I love ted talks listen to them all the time but this has annoyed me so much...want a cost effective soloution by everyone a farm animal...chicken per say,immune system covered eggs introduced at a young age, self suficiant and when you know your going to be just fine! shock horror ...plate that bad boy up n get the whole family to tuck right in !!! I was going to say this talk shouldn't be on here ,but you know what like a cleary labelled ingredient in 20years time we will know exactly what this contains NONSENSE cheers!

    Allergies aren’t rising, back in the day it was more likely for someone to just die because doctors and nurses didn’t know what was wrong with them or how to fix it , now they have ways to avoid this.

    • @haysh7185
      @haysh7185 4 года назад +2

      This is patently false. Unless you're talking "back in the day" as in 100 years or so ago. In the last decade alone cases have risen by 50% with hospitalizations due to anaphylaxis increasing by 700%. You think we didn't know what anaphylaxis was 10 years ago? Diagnostics haven't improved that much in that short a time frame. They're absolutely increasing. Skyrocketing based on those statistics.

      I have a dairy allergy. It's pretty hard. I'm allergic to about 95% of the food at the store and at restaurants. Dairy gets mixed into almost everything in the US. It's hard to eat when traveling. Especially at airports. Half of the employees don't even know or care if their food has dairy mixed in or not. Even "vegan pizzas" that I've bought ended up having dairy mixed in with the doe. I'm surrounded by a deadly poison everywhere I go, and I can't trust anyone. I've had people smile and hand me food that they assure me is poison free, and then I'm having an allergic reaction because there was an unusual ingredient in the meal that wasn't supposed to have dairy.

    • @lmdefelilo6790
      @lmdefelilo6790 6 лет назад +6

      It is hard. Try going to a restaurant, saying make sure that X is not in your food and they may not serve you because of cross contamination in the kitchen. You can also not buy any food without reading the ingredients. Did you know how many foods sold have sunflower oil in them?!?! And how many people cook with sunflower oil of your friends? No, it is not that easy. You are only safe eating at home foods you make yourself.

    • @TheNicolevertone
      @TheNicolevertone 6 лет назад +4

      That's the simplest solution, not the easiest. Also, some allergies are so bad that even traces of it, in the air no less, can cause anaphylaxis.
