Thank you fir the walk about. My younger years I lived in Kennedy house and went to hollyhedge school. We then moved to Slaithwaite rd just off dagger lane and I went to churchfields from 75 to 80. I walked along many if your walks, all saints way, hollyhedge Rd, up the humongous hill in Charlemont . What a walk down memory lane. I feel very sad now seeing how everything has changes, all i have now are my memories. I have been thinking about visiting just for old times sake, but I won't bother now. Thank you so much though, I will cherish my memories all the more now.
Keep up the good work, I really enjoyed your channel. I will share this with my parents who moved away from West bromwich about 22 yrs ago purely for the fact that it was changing so much even back then. Thank you Karen

I remember the bustling shops. Such as, Chelsea Girl, Dolcis, Gas Store, Tesco, Mothercare.
The waterfall in the middle. With the old folks, having a breather.

I too remember all those shops and it was a pleasure to walk around it but now of course not so much. Many thanks for your comment

Its a reflection of the demise of the areas manufacturing and engineering industries. With no money coming in from outside, the small amount that is left recurculates in the few personal services like barbers and nail bars, clothing and food

I moved out of West Brom in 2022, after living there since 1977, now live on the east coast, best thing I did. West Brom has turned into a ghost town, worst thing they did was move the bus station and build the new square. It killed the whole town.

I get depressed looking how awful our towns have become. It's a disgrace the way it's been left to decline. If you walk the high street where wilco was it's even worse.

Made me wonder how many rugs you'd need to sell per week to pay for the cost of renting the stall. Then considering paying yourself a wage to cover bills, food etc. it just doesn't add up

Its not a coincidence that this is happening in every single town and city in England.

West Bromwich has certainly declined over the years without any investment. However the overview isn’t a true reflection as several shops were missed out on the video, such as the pet store, perfume store, football shop, jewellery store and caribbean store missed out in the indoor market. It is soon to be closed down and relocated.

It's so easy to find your way around.
Left at the ice cream parlour and right at the swimming pool. Simple.
    Oops, they're all gone.

I think the new part has killed the old part, used to go dudley and West brom both now dead, remember being a kid when they was knocking it down to build the new squares, the old folks didn't like it, probably be made into houses

So many and varied shops in that shopping centre back in the day, now you mention it I vaguely remember johns jewel box. The Centre was a great place to be on a Saturday afternoon, but perhaps not so much now. Many thanks for the comment

Walking down west Bromwich high street by the market last night I feared for my life loads of rough sleepers and gangs of beggars asking for money load music being played and drunks drinking on the streets where are the police 😢😢😢

    • @awalkwithphil
      @awalkwithphil  3 дня назад +1

The area is not too pleasant at night. I rarely encounter any police presence on the High Street day or night. I do spot the odd PCSO but they are just pretend police

The decline of the Queens square has been going on for quite a while, there are plans to knock down the Queens square and carry on building onto the new square where all the new shops have been built

Although the shopping centres are pretty much devoid of character now due to the amount of closed businesses it could be a lot worse. The centres are definitely a better option to shop in rather than the glum shabby high streets A stark contrast of sorts.
