I've watched far too many sawmill episodes, by you, Brock, Josh, and others -- considering I don't have a sawmill or a desire to have one. With your hickory saw dust mix it with water so that it is thick, then form it into bricks and let it dry. They should hold together and you can then use them to smoke meat with. They must be hard packed together so they will hold form.

Hey Tony, I cut a 25" oak with my OS23 a while back. It was a job. I don't have a tractor so I had to turn it by hand. 25" x 10' it was so heavy I bent my peavey. But I got 'er done. It made some beautiful slabs and boards. I put the first cut from both sides back on the mill afterwards to get my 2 slabs. Almost more work than it was worth. You did a good job with that Hickory!
I have done a few big (too big!) Oaks on the OS23. As you said, it was a bear to work with, but it was fun! Thank you.

Looks like you need the Frontier OS31 working those big logs. I wonder if you can make a picnic table out of that kind of wood. At my mother's we had an all wood picnic table that was made all out of 3in wood, The county was replacing the tables in a park that were well over 30 yrs old at the time, and they even brought it to her house and put it where she wanted it. It was painted forest green and I don't know if it was the paint or the douglas fir it was made of but she had it for 22 years before it gave up the ghost. I was trying to move it with whe tractor and the legs broke off one end, She was in her 80's then and told me to take it to the burn pile. She was past her picnic days she said.
You are definitely pushing that sawmill to its limits!! Kudos for daring.
I had the same soft spots in an old dead oak, I think it’s some kind of live bugs in a dormant stage, it definitely need some chemical treatment or it’ll infest everything.

It can be frustrating to me when it’s maxed out. I start thinking about buying a larger less manual mill. Then I remember what I use it for and look at the price tags and think, this little mill does a great job doing what it is designed to do, which is 90 percent of what I need it for.
I sure do love it when it is dialed in and running good and you have a good log on it. I have the 10 hp and it’s struggles to get a straight board with a hickory log that size unless it’s real green.
On the big logs sometimes you use the gravity clamps, it ain’t going no where 😊

hickory is also high in tannin
You should have used a chain saw to knock the knot off or rotated the log.
I believe that’s a BITTERnut hickory not a butternut, which is in the walnut family - either way some Beautiful pieces

I am about to pull the hook on a RK25 and have watched all your videos and you helped me make the decision that it will be a great tractor for our property. Looking for a split close grapple for the RK25 and I know you had run one on your T25. Can you tell me the Brand and model number?
To get more slabs couldnt you have turned the log onto the flat side to cut more slabs opposite the first side?

Well I get my mill on Monday. Sadly its not a Frontier. Finances wouldn't allow it. Im getting a range road. Not top of the line but not terrible. 26" 5meter trailer 15hp electric start.
I think you will be happy with it. Many of the parts interchange with Woodland mills and Frontier. It sounds like a beast of a sawmill.

Does it get your blade too hot cutting without water lube?
I touched the blade after the cut. It was cool to the touch. The belt didn't get hot. It was dusty.
