You hit it when you said it's funky, thats the thing that hit me first time I heard this, hmmpf, and then when I heard World Machine, ,..ohh man, and I had already been exposed to The Brothers Johnson(who are so badass), Larry Graham, in the 70's,..Parliament Funkadelics, this group just had funk written all over them,..do keep going, Godspeed, Peace ✌
I think LEVEL 42s sound could easily fit in with the music of today, Mark King is considered one of the best Base players ever. You are right to compare Level 42 with Simply Red they made timeless music in my oppinion. My fav Level 42 song is HOT WATER, Also Simply Red's Holding Back the Years is a classic. Keep up the great work Lads.
I really Love this song!!! Their gratest hits cassette was one of my dearest albums at home and in my personal stereo 🙂 Their vocalist was also a great bassist. Many thanks! Regards from Chile!
I was a disc jockey on Riviera 104 ("Broadcasting in English to the C'ôte d'Azure - from San Remo to St Tropez") when Level 42 came out with this song - we ALL loved to play it!
Yes, one of my top 10 favourite pop songs of the 80s. I generally like basslines, upon today, that might be a reason. I also like the video, because it fits the lyrics well.
A was really into Level 42, I have a few of their albums and saw them live back in the day. They always had a great production quality to them. As far back as "Love Games" and "Love Meeting Love". This was due to having a really great mix of band members. Really good versatile musicians. Guitar, drums and keyboard roles could have been taken by 3 different band members ! Mark King being a drummer who switched to bass guitar for example. Wally Badarou was the mastermind though imo, writing and co-producing. 11 albums they put out in total and all quite memorable.
Mark King played Drums, Bass & Guitar. Mike Lindup played Drums, Percussion & Keyboards. Boon Gould played Bass, Saxophone & Guitar. Phil Gould played Piano, Drums & Percussion. Boon actually performed the sax solo on 'Love Meeting Love' and Phil played the glockenspiel solo on 'Starchild.' Their collective high level of musicianship was pretty unique in the eighties!
So good to see your enthusiasm, Ty! Level 42 had some really feel good songs -- 80s in the best way without sounding dated. this song, Lessons in Love and Leaving me Now were the ultimate trifecta.
Yes! Finally found the S/Tier! Huge Level 42 fan. I had World Machine and Lessons In Love LPs and played them to death. Then I had a roommate who had lived in the UK and had all the albums I never knew existed! They are so huge in Europe and basically considered a one-hit wonder here. So many great EU bands like that: a-ha, Jamiroquai, etc.
A brilliant band from a brilliant time. The woman with the white cup is the gorgeous Cherie Lunghi, a British actress who every red blooded British male was in love with in the 80s. She played a brilliant part (Guinevere) in the 1981 film by John Boorman called Excalibur about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.
World Machine is a masterpiece according to me. I have seen them live many times, starting in 1985, but if I have to pick something, it must be when I saw them in Stockholm. And they played "To be with you again". I have tried for many years, to try to just play the bass-line. He played and sang it live. Totally insane. Cheers from southern Italy!
Finally!I know how much you like this band Dad lol!'lessons in love' and 'Something about you' are my fave ones.Do i get some Hall and Oates vibes?Luv the melodious 'oooohs'
Please look up another UK band called Flock Of Seagulls, especially "Space Age Love Song" , "I Ran" , "Its not Me Talking" and "Telecommunication" They were a great feel good band from the same era as Level 42.
This version seemed a lot longer than the original version & i know its not 12 inch because of the time frame & the fact every 12 In i bought were remixed like crazy... Oddly enough i was looking into the " World Machine " album as , again , another link popped up but this i understand as i more often than not look at things to do with Level 42 as I've been a huge fan since they started out & on this link saw a gentleman do a great bass guitar cover of " I Sleep On My Heart " also from the " World Machine " album... Along with listening to " Dream Crazy " " I Sleep On My Heart & i'd say my favourite song was "Coup d'état " as it harks back to the fact that they've made songs that spoke of politics & not trusting our Governments & the atrocities that can happen on any given day along with pop song's... Sure they made great popular song's but they also tried to put a song thats talks about the world we live & that those in Power arent interested on no one except for their own expensive needs & theyd always slip one of those song's on an album if they felt it was good enough to be aloud on that album... To the gentleman on the right & with regards to Mark singing & playing bass guitar & if he doesnt this he might see it in the comments... When Mark King Recorded " Lessons In Love " he did the singing part separate from him recording the bass line & it wasnt until he tried to play & sing at the same time he found he was struggling to play the bass guitar while singing " Lessons In Love " & he admitted thst he had to put in quite some practice to play both at the same time as Mark didnt think hed had problems with that & trying to sing & play bass guitar can see thr best of them being caught by something he thought hed hsve to problems playing alas he did & its slightly comforting knowing that even the best can make mistakes or taken his gift for granted when playing bass while singing... In light of this still ongoing coronavirus and its variants stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world... .....
Hey guys, just found your channel and LOVING the Level 42 reaction! Saw them open for Tina Turner in the early 90's and been a fan ever since. As a new subscriber, I'd like to request a new band for you with the track Ghost Love Score by the band Nightwish with their official live track from the 2013 Live at Wacken. ruclips.net/video/47e_961OQWE/видео.html This song is one of the most reacted to tracks on youtube so satisfaction guaranteed!
eighties's songs rescue! 😄 Without you (as usual) I couldn't remember this song. However I am not impressed by the video clip. It looks too aged. Duran Duran ones are much more atemporal 😁
Stella it's a pure classic, the video just reflects perfect cheesy 80's visuals 😎 Not all hold up as well as the amazing Duran Duran. I had to look up what atemporal meant, ha But yes your right 😎✌🏼
I absolutely hate that video, totally undersells the song which i think for the 80's was smoothly produced. It's pure nostalgia for me because it takes me back to a grumpy 14 year old..., but it's beautifully crafted. I would say though Lessons in Love is a better tune of theirs.
I'm sorry my friend. Simply Red cannot measure up to Level 42. Level 42 has several hit songs and number ones . Check out the first two albums and their song " Leaving me now". " Lessons in love". So on and so on.
Ty is on it. He got it immediately with the layers. You could see he was diggin it. LOL. Loved his reaction cos Im a huge level 42 fan.

True Dat Debbie 😎 way underrated band
One of my favorite songs of all time and it reminds me of a fun time in my life.
"It's Over" is one of my fave songs. Level 42 are great and desperately underappreciated.
I think LEVEL 42s sound could easily fit in with the music of today, Mark King is considered one of the best Base players ever. Mark King! GOAT! A friend got me his first solo CD on a trip to London in the 90s. Also great!
Your right Martin 😎 "Hot Water" is a way cool vibe! Wow Level 42 had so many great albums ... Pure Legends ... Mark King & Mike Lindup ✌🏼
Level 42 are superme.Amazing band,different class singles.

I really Love this song!!! Their gratest hits cassette was one of my dearest albums at home and in my personal stereo 🙂 Their vocalist was also a great bassist.

This and Lessons In Love are fantastic. Their Best Of record is the first one I bought.
"Lessons In Love" another Fab Tune 😎
This song will remain relevant no matter what decade if you just give it a listen! We are only human after all!!😊
Level 42 is one of my favorite bands from the 80’s. Had a string of great albums that mix rock/pop/jazz with Mark’s fantastic bass driving each song.
Good on you Ty... you get it. This is one of those songs that really never gets old. It's that good. IMO one of the best songs -- ever.
Fab Tune 😎 Great Video
I was a disc jockey on Riviera 104 ("Broadcasting in English to the C'ôte d'Azure - from San Remo to St Tropez") when Level 42 came out with this song - we ALL loved to play it!
My favourite Level 42 song. It’s a beauty. Takes me back. ❤️
I knew he'd like it!
😎😎
Yes, one of my top 10 favourite pop songs of the 80s. I generally like basslines, upon today, that might be a reason. I also like the video, because it fits the lyrics well.
More mature new wave. Perfect melody, vocals, lyrics and exceptional harmonies. All the reasons it’s a classic that endures. ❤️
I was in high school from 1981-1985. I cant describe how this song influenced the 80s❤❤❤❤
Yeah TY!! Way to get it. It is so 10th grade for me; a good song on the radio over and over.
Tune!! 😎
One of my fave songs of all time. Their songs Lessons in Love and Leaving Me Now are also great and deserve reactions!
Agreed 😎
I concur.
Ooooh I love this song! Thank you for sharing this with the new generation

This song is amazing and the lyrics are genius too.

“We’re only human after all”

I loooove this tune, as I love another song by Level 42: “ Running in the family”
Both classic tunes Les 😎 the more I think about it, Level 42 should be like Hall of Famers right?
Yes! Finally found the S/Tier! Huge Level 42 fan. I had World Machine and Lessons In Love LPs and played them to death. Every song dad picks from the 80’s is my favorite. We are the same age!!! Have you introduced your boy to Mr. Mister or Cutting Crew? The Outfield?
A brilliant band from a brilliant time. The woman with the white cup is the gorgeous Cherie Lunghi, a British actress who every red blooded British male was in love with in the 80s. Thx Nick for the info 😎 I learn so much from ya'll, fascinating
Absolutely brilliant tune.
Great song. Another band who soundtracked my childhood. They were huge in the UK. Liking Ty playing leg keyboard by the way! 🤣
I Think Ty really likes the band 😎 Level 42 Rocks 😎🤟🏼
World Machine is a masterpiece according to me. I have seen them live many times, starting in 1985, but if I have to pick something, it must be when I saw them in Stockholm. Indeed Alexio, the "oooohs" are Rad 😎
🔥🔥🔥🔥Love it❤
🔥 🔥
sounds like a Stock Aitken Waterman Production, typical mid late 80ies London Sound
Please look up another UK band called Flock Of Seagulls, especially "Space Age Love Song" , "I Ran" , "Its not Me Talking" and "Telecommunication" They were a great feel good band from the same era as Level 42.
Fab suggestion Nick 😎 Flock Of Seagulls cassettes were definitely played in my car all the time 😁✌🏼
Great video guys! You should react to some Pseudo Echo! They are an awesome Synth Pop, New Wave band. Their first album is 80s electronic ear candy.
Cool suggestion Zander 😎 "Funky Town" & "Listening" are really Fab
Great reaction! Please try songs from Talk Talk also (It's my life, Such a shame, and Life's what you make it)
Do LESSONS in love.
Fab tune 😎

Fab comments 😎 We appreciate your insight 😎 Level 42 are so unique and awesome, we will definitely do more on the show ❤️✌🏼
I love this song, but the video like most 80’s videos detract from the song. The video becomes front and center, and the music is background.
good point ... 80's excess 😎😎 ha
💎💎💎👌🏽✨
