I think this song is a continuation/response to what Brendan was going through when writing " i am no one' in the Current will Carry us. "Praising the essence but the meaningless remain. Collecting shards from mirror images of me. I am no idol for the weak. Nothing to no one, a memory misread." One of counterparts's strongest point is for sure is how honest, real and accessible Brendan's lyrics are. But Brendan only writes about things he's gone through. Interestingly enough a lot of people relate to similar struggles and like to praise him for being the voice that keeps them going strong throughout whatever hardship they're having. Rather to let it get to his head and make him feel like "the savior, The one" of a crowd, more than once has Brendan made it clear that he's still as lost of most of us and is still searching for the right ways to carry on. This song is a continuation that no matter how great his "essence" (image) might appear to people, the meaningless within (that feeling of still not being good enough for anyone not even himself) is still present. "I am no idol for the weak, nothing to no one". This line is i think is particularly for people who make it a "pride" to Claim counterparts is what they idolize to justify their lack of acceptance to face reality and take responsibility to overcome their problem (i.e Witness- TDBHAH)
Luffy Joke Central in many many interviews, Brendan discusses his personal struggles with depression and suicidal thoughts, the loss of love, etc. He uses his place of power as a front man to share his views, and these views, as sad, bleak and mundane as they are, are shared by many, many fans, and even more people that have yet to discover them, and even though the depressive elements in his songwriting is overwhelming, there is beauty to be found within them knowing That you aren't alone, that the musicians you may idolize on the daily basis may not be as immortal and perfect as some assume them to be. By being able to be as brutally honest about himself via his lyrics, Brendan has helped, touched, and healed the hearts of many through his lyrics, and we as fans can't thank him enough for that.
The ''Nothing to noone'' killed it completely, never heard someone shouting this deep from the inside out, well fucking done, definitely my favourite album of 2017!
I was hoping for some kind of sweet Counterparts-esque guitar fill between the gaps in that breakdown. That's my only gripe thus far. Been jamming this album non-stop for 2 days now.
Is it just me who cant seem to remember any positives from my past, my memory contains only the suffering and pain i've been through, I find it hard to recall any memories where I was actually happy, or even in positive light for that matter... Maybe theyre all being misread but all I seem to be remembering is abandonment and pain... It makes me happy to be lost in oblivion, the thought of my parents dying fucks me up the most even though I can only recall the negatives of our relationships, Can anyone relate?
I’m sorry about your experience, but if it makes you feel any better, humans tend to hold onto negative experiences far longer than positive experiences. Something in our brain ig.
