It's incredibly nice to see the old lowko gamer-spirit come out to play again. I have followed you since waaaaaaay back, the OG starcraft tutorials levels of back, and I have really missed these. I still remember the walking dead playthroughs and the game with the little boy in the raincoat trying to escape the giant humaniods trying to eat him. Those were some good times, love from Sweden.

That's exactly how long is supposed to take to make a real game good. I'm so happy to hear that. I remember the original and that era of gaming and how great the games were because they let them develop properly. There was a company back then called Blizzard that did that.

The gameplay is good for the most part, but I'm ignoring the story. It's... not great to say the least. I've reached the point where I'm skipping the cutscenes entirely. I still wish the writers had read the technical book from HW1 before they made that Hyperspace Core mgguffin nonsense they stuck in 2 and 3. The OG Mothership was too damned big for the Khar-Toba's core to work, so they had to reverse-engineer and build one 12 times the size to move the thing. The original should have been destroyed when Kharak was glassed.
And where are the Corvettes? Gearbox only gave the Hiigarans a single corvette type for some strange reason. Where are my Multi-gun Corvettes!?

Yeah but modern would imply improvements. Which are not really present. The pathfinding is terrible. The controls are pretty bad. And the cutscenes do not look like a 2024 game should. Should have stuck with drawn art with their budget.
Hopefully one day someone creates a mod to include Starcraft ships in this game!

Oh God. I do love the style of this strategy game. It reminds me so much of Battlestar Galactica. BG was a really good syfy series from 2004 and it had Katee Sakhoff as a space ship fighter pilot. They called her Star Buck. I think it was her 1st start into her career. She was the deputy in Longmire later in life. Anyway. My point was that it's a great series and this game looks like it.
It wasn't her first but definitely her best - my all time favourite saga Sci-Fi.
The releases did a disservice to that show - if you buy the boxsets it never has the right episodes in order including the miniseries.
Oh and on a second note - there is a Battlestar game which is actually great as well with similarities to this game. There are several upgrades to the game to get the full experience however.
@@MKu64 Thanks for the input, and I like that you know of BG and say there's a similarity. That grabs my attention, and I will definitely be buying this after I get tired of Manor Lords. Which is looking like that will be real soon. ML gets old very quick.

@@adilosphen That's the original. The 'reboot' is 2004... and as long as to begin, you watch the mini series, then series 1, it's amazing!
I think they're pushing the online multiplayer aspect of this game with level progression, online game pass, extra factions in the works, and the mods. I thought there were perks as well when you complete challenges. Did they change the UI? Can't seem to find them.
Storyline feel flat, not like the last 3 games, you are really on a mission.

that explains a lot if its true. i didnt actually feel the normal hate for white men, and didn't miss them in the story... but there was literally nothing going on that couldn't be written by a 3rd grader...

honestly i kinda like that. just focus on having a really great campaign or a good thing to play with friends. I don't need to try and be diamond league in every game, some can just be for fun

I guess I think for me... in trying to balance a game for ranked/esports play, you often force yourself to make compromises that make it less fun for 'goofing around with friends'. Like... if you think starcraft, there's a lot of fun designs that had to go because they're no way to balance them. Think about like the beta mothership's planet cracker or any of the campaign's units--they really can't fit in a multiplayer mode that's supposed to support ranked play

The game is really good, superbe storyline excelent mission design but playing it from a French computer in AZERTY it's packs with shortcut bug and some minor UI bug.
Also I've been playing homeworld since homeworld 1 when I was a kid and some of the cool features of the game and interface are just plain absent here but were there in HW1 2 and HW cataclysm. (no way to get your money from undesired ship, captured ship, no sabordage, no subsystem, )
I'm enjoying it already😊

the gameplay is the real reason this game is actually terrible.
imagine playing starcraft but there's a hard limit on every type of unit including workers... there's absolutely nothing to think about in your army composition... feels bad man. tons of other crap about the gameplay too...

well the first one is over 24 years old... the second game is nearly 20 years old.... that may be why. Deserts of kharak is 8 years old.

They play a slow, piano version of Adagio Four Strings that SPOILER(!)
were played when in HW you were met with the Burning of Kharak, Home.
Original Sensor / Tactical Overview Sounds, some other sounds taken over as well.
They tried 2 hard honestly. This is Nostalgia-Bait. This could have been much greater, they knew what they needed.

It's ridiculous to see how good the graphics of OG Homeworld was compared to HW3 today. Relic had some mad wizards working under the guise of programmers back in the early 2k's and the world is worse for their absence.
Still, Gearbox did a grand job of keeping that level of quality up to par with HW3. Cannot wait to get this, once funds allow.
Homeworld 3 look pretty alright but gameplay wise it’s not like homeworld 1 and 2
RTS guys will make the crap out of drones, but stay on one resource controller forever....interesting.

Sad to say, this game feels like it’s made by people who have no idea what made the original Homeworld series gain such a cult-like following. The plot and dialogue feels like it was written by teenagers, and the whole "feel" of the universe and narrative is off-brand.
I'm fine with most of the plot except the main antagonist, who feels weak, stupid, and childish.
Worse yet is the gameplay, there’s so much missing from hw2, no more hyperspace jump, no more capital ship module and lackluster map.
It's another AAA DOA. Almost every single vid and stream is paid. A total disaster but at least the cutscenes are hilariously goofy.
Nope, i actually enjoyed it sorry. But what I can't deny is the game could be WAY more better if the main antagonist aka the queen just not exist in the fist place
I wasn’t fond of the interactions in the weird brain space but was completely fine with everything else. They needed to lean into either a military industrial type waring or a mysticism that isn’t so “in your face”, also I think it might have worked without visual and just audio for the specific cutscenes people aren’t happy with.
That girl is such a drama queen..

Ugh... after seeing that intro cut-scene, only my stomach linings got goose bumps. Jeez, the dialogue and everything is such a cringe teenager stuff.
Gone is the grandeur, the mystery and the dread of an epic yet desperate trek into the unknown.
Replaced with silly borderline-idiotic platitudes aiming aimlessly and incompetently for that tear-jerking and heart-aching emotional response; it kinda feels like ST:D "To boldly emote like no man has emoted before". Frankly, i wouldn't be surprised if the finale cut-scene of the game is mostly made of the so-called "Fleet Command" incessantly sobbing during a stupid faux-emotional climax. Ugh... Lets see if at least the game itself holds together...

Human being used as the control core of the mothership has potential for making a interesting story
HW1 and HW2 had that as well. thoose were better games though, sadly
not a new thing to this series. the lore is that no computer or AI could handle the load of prioritizing systems and information, so they literally jack in a human brain, matrix style, to sort stuff out and run the mothership and fleet. in homeworld 1, they were pretty sure the person who jacked in would not be able to come back out, so it was thought to be a sacrifice going in but they were able to get Karen S'Jet back out when they decommissioned the OG mothership. In homeworld 2 they put her back into the new mothership, which goes missing at the end. which they only briefly mention in this game.
@@nicodemus7784 Adding to this by the looks of it, the Khar-Sajuuk Mothership seems to be a different ship entirely as the true Khar-Sajuuk, the Progenitor Warship, is the key to the gates. The Khar-Sajuuk in 3 seems to be a retrofitted version of the HW2 Mothership, complete with the vertical hangar to the side so no. Also that HW2 mothership, Light of Higaraa I think it was called, was abandoned on the Progenitor Nest where the Khar-Sajuuk was found since it cannot function without the hypercores that was then transplanted to the aforementioned Progenitor Warship

I see some people say the graphics is the only good thing about this release, but IMO the graphics (texture/model details) is, in this day and age, still so much worse than EVE Online...

Jesus christ the cutscenes and story are campy and stupid. I will probably ignore it completely for this reason alone. Gameplay would have to be pretty amazing to offset.
The main character's hair is just awful.. Not the graphics, just her hair style. It looks like it smells bad..

It's like the same weirdness from HW2 but like with connecting events instead of things happening randomly like in HW2.
I like weird things, but I get why people dislike it.
Well, After Homeworld DoK they dont want to add another faction on the story.
While in homeworld 1 and catacalism you basicaly have to fight with ship that doesnt have faction in the skirmish.
Publisher is sponsing , yeah thats not going to be worth watching. And not even being clear about that its an AD. Thats loss of any Trust
