I've got a drainage pond that gets dry but fills up according to how much rain comes. Can jap millet grow underwater if it grows for about a month before it gets flooded?
Somehow I missed this comment, yes once it’s over a foot high, it has no problem being under 5-6 inches of water. Too much will kill it . It’s cheap enough and worth a try. Rice is tolerant to flooding too
Its creek fed so one good rainfall and it fills right up. The problem I have is too much water so I built the flashboard riser and fenced it off to keep the water drained and the beavers out during planting. check out those videos, they are on the channel
You don’t need to fertilize it? Loved the vid. Did it come up good?
It came up great! Swamps typically are loaded with nutrients, especially these where it is all ag run off. Fert certainly wouldnt hurt though!
Cool video 😎🦆👍
Glad you enjoyed! Plenty more this year, check them out!
Keep us updated I’m doing the same thing right now but it’s taking a while it’s a lot bigger area I’m struggling keeping beavers out
Will do! Farm pond Millet planting update coming soon. Check it out if you have not already

@@Yellowlab247_Outdoors thank you!
Do you flood this pond or does it raise during fall/winter on its own?

Looking forward to seeing how this looks in 30 to 60 days.
Will update !
Also can it be planted in water like rice?
Nope, millet floats, it wont sink or germinate under water. Has to be be broadcast over exposed mud/soil
How long does it take for it to grow?
You'll see heads in 45-50 days but they say 60 days for full grain maturity
Do you have to fertilize it
Certainly wouldn’t hurt ! Not sure the rate but 50-80lbs of nitrogen per acre would be fine
Crazy what a man will do to kill a duck😂 but I get it !!
Right ! I tell myself that all the time. You’ll hear me huffing and puffing on the next planting video, it was miserable
Lol duckcamander uses air seeding lol 😂
Start a go fund me for a helicopter
