    One piece of advice I've gotten from an industry professional that helped a lot was when it comes to turnarounds, sometimes looking good is more important than looking accurate. If Mickey only had a single ear on his side profile, he'd look weird as hell.

    • @joshuaadeoye
      @joshuaadeoye  Год назад +15

      That’s some solid advice! I’d say though that it’s even more important for the character to look like themselves from every angle! Thanks for sharing! ✨🙏🏾✨

    Dude, I NEEDED to hear you say work towards likeness instead of geometric perfection- I thought I SUCKED at character turnarounds because of how I couldn’t get the individual facial features or individual fingers to lineup with the features and fingers on a different view

    1. torso is biggest in front view and thinnest in side view.. so 3 quater will be bigger than side but smaller than front
    2. head is thinnest in front view and biggest in side
    3.feet in side view will be centered as compared to the front view and hands as well

    It's funny that my process is sort of the opposite--- I sculpt my characters in 3D using Blender and then use that model for my drawing reference when I'm creating comic boards. Uploading the 3D models to Mixamo to get my characters in a specific pose also really helps. But I've also run into having to alter features slightly for better likeness, so my technique definitely isn't perfect.

    This video is a 10/10
    1. clear, concise explanation with visual aids for kinaesthetic learners ( most tutorials ive seen just voice over whilst showing a speed drawing of something disconnected from whattheir saying just for video filler, which is frustrating)
    2. methodology is fantastic, you show you know your stuff in a very digestible way and not overcomplicating the audience with over the top jargon.
    3. short and to the point but makes the audience want to know more about turnarounds
    I have some suggestions for future videos. Maybe do a "draw with me" folllow up/ live stream video of turnarounds. reviewing Turn around submissions.
    Fantastic Job Joshua, this is honestly the best video ive seen on turnarounds, and ive seen alot lol. cant wait to see more of your videos. I've subbed.

    I'd like to add, another example of drawing side profiles to their likeness and not to geometric perfection is the 3D animated Peanuts movie! Pretty much every character's facial features move around depending on what limited angle they're in to capture the same likeness of them from the comics and shows. Just thought that was neat :))

    hey! I'm working on a turn around too. I am struggling with the relationship between the anterior and posterior arms in the 3/4 views. Could you make a more detailed video on 3/4 view? I want to know how you specifically line up up the angles of everything.

    I just came back here to say that the two animations at :19 and 3:16 are jaw-droppingly good. Would love to see how you created those - any rough sketches, keyframes, breakdowns, timing charts, etc. That's some Marc Davis level stuff!!!

    • @joshuaadeoye
      @joshuaadeoye  11 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you!✨🙏🏾Actually, when I’m animating for myself, I don’t use timing charts and my first pass is usually pretty clean. This is to save time. I plan to explain my process much clearer in a future video!✨

    Would love to see how you do a model sheets. I'm also curious on how you would explain what types of shapes and forms are used in Anime vs Western Animation.
    The top view tip is definitely something I wasn't aware of and will try it out on my next turn-around pieces. Thanks for creating a great video!!

    Olá! Obrigada pelo vídeo super explicativo, estou querendo focar mais na construção de personagens e queria entender como fazer os diferentes ângulos sem me perder ao criar. Esse vídeo de fato me ajudou muito! E obrigada por deixar disponível a opção de legendas automáticas, pois acredite que, para pessoas como eu que estão em processo de aprendizado quanto a outros idiomas, fica muito mais fácil termos a informação e assim consumir mais conteúdos que julgamos úteis! abraços do Brasil! ❤

    Really you should always start your character turn around with the 3/4 veiw. There is more indication to the thrid dimension and relating that to other veiw allows for control of the process, you tend to go back and forth with each veiw until you reach a point were your happy with the outcome the horizontal lines are imperative in keeping the proportions equal, although i havent seen the top done apparoch before that might help the orientation of your character model.
