You should have seen the 1986 floods. we got 24" in a 10 day period. It was horrible. way worse than this small stuff. There were big propane tanks being carried out to the ocean and were worried they would be carried out to the shipping lanes. These horrible winter rains was one of the reasons i moved to arizona in 2003. Oh and before that in 64 we had rain straight for 30 days and 30 nights

This is only a bit more than usual for November. Jan/Feb are our heaviest months and this is expected then, so expect it.
Don't drive through flooded waters if you can turn around.
Don't go on back roads, if you can avoid it.
Delay driving completely if you can and help your neighborhood by removing tree branches from the road, obstacles and clearing storm drains using a stick or rake.

Can we ditch the phrase “atmospheric river” and for good measure ditch “polar vortex”. This is a Pacific storm that anyone who has been around longer than a couple of years has known. The “vortex” is called cold air. These are phrases idiots use to over dramatize weather events.

I doubt it's the media, they're just the messenger, the real creator of this language is the state of Commifornia who ironically is also responsible for climate change. They're just pushing their own narrative.

The scientific term for “bomb cyclone” is bombogenesis. Bomb cyclone is an easier term for the lay public to grasp. Atmospheric river is the term used by the National Weather Service for long narrow streams of water vapor. The typical atmospheric river (AR) is carrying water vapor equivalent to the flow of water at the mouth of the Mississippi River. There are 5-6 ARs occurring on the planet at any given time. A Bombogenesis and an AR are distinctly separate events. Each one doesn’t need the other to occur.
