I live about 15 miles north of the major fires in Oregon. It's surreal here. Dark red/orange skies, smell of forest fire in the air. It's like living on another planet. I'm terrified for all of the wildlife that's losing their habitat and countless thousands of acres of forest being destroyed. So many people being evacuated, their homes.... ashes. I've lived in the Pacific NW for over 40 years, and have never seen anything like this. It's horrific.

It's Worse then ever before in my 62 years. The ash is thick in the air, covering everything. Constant for over two weeks. I'm so worried about children and people who have respiratory issues. Clouds of ash blowing behind vehicles. Nightmarish.
@Justins It was just a perfect combination of a long dry period, high temperatures, low humidity, and then extremely high winds. Fires start all the time this time of year, but usually they get put out before they burn more than a couple acres. The difference this time is that conditions allowed these fires to grown faster than usual.

Those fires are not super natural, but are unnatural when choppers above keep dropping kerosene over and around the fires. Just by watching these different fires for several days I know what they are doing

Ya my wife , 2 sons and I. Have a cabin on the other side of Detroit Lake, Oregon. Us and My Neighbors will and Kent were a part of the Mongold Last stand. We woke up to red skies, it was apocalyptic. The hurricane force winds spread the fire so fast. Branches and fallen trees everywhere. Once my neighbor Will let me know at 4am that hwy 22 was closed off both ways, I wasnt sure whether to stay in our cabin with generator and air purifier trying to reduce smoke exposure for my infant , or go but they said we are staging at mongold and working on getting a helicopter (which I knew from the start wouldn't work) based on the factors of dense smoke ash and high winds 70-90mph. so we packed the van with everything we could grab, our pets and us. And I decided to monitor the fire and situation from Detroit in our van. There was talk by the fireman of getting a plow or bull dozer. To plow our way out to sisters. That fell through and we were left with no other option but to gather at Mongold and make a last stand. I made sure to grab all our lifejackets for just such a scenario. And brought the generator to plug the air purifyer to put in our tent for baby , 7 year old son and my wife. We waited at mongold for hours til about 1 or 2. They said we were going to just spend the night there, so my wife made my neighbor will a Pb & J , we got the dogs out to potty & When just as i was getting ready to set up for the night. The wind kept me from setting up my tent and by Gods grace a way up 46 past brietenbush , past fire on both sides of the hwy, through a backwoods FS road. We ended up in blue skies, at hwy 26. Will be posting a video when im over the shock. Please pray for us and our neighbors! The town ive been coming to since i was 5 , has been destroyed. It is truly suureal and a genuine sign of the times.
My take on the weather change: The Bermuda high, which is normally off the East Coast & into the Atlantic Ocean has moved Westward onto the East Coast and Mid-West. (Why? The Gulf stream is in bad shape and almost nonexistent) So, with the strong High pressure over the East Coast & Mid-West & our Jet stream also behaving strangely, this allows for a strong Low pressure as such, to come out of the Arctic & Canada, at an earlier time of year. _This coming Winter is something to keep an eye out and being prepared._ (All of this is just, my OPINION & speculation but with some Meteorology & Science background.)

I lived in a tiny town in the mountains in far East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia for 15 years, I can still see all my favourite places in my mind but now those places no longer exist, neither does the house I raised my son in, the after affects of such extreme fire is almost soul destroying. I really hope everyone stays safe and continues to support and look after each other once the danger has past because it's not easy coming to grips with such a drastically different landscape, or the massive loss of animals, so even if you're lucky and didn't lose your home lots of people will still experience grief. @UnholyUndies There are several different factors that can contribute to it. In some cases, the Volcanic Ash from a Volcanic Eruption can cause an iceage. Or, in some cases, a large enough asteroid can cause one. This happened with the Astroid that killed the Dinosaur's. Other cases, could be caused by the natural cycle of the planet. The planet was actually heading towards another Iceage. However due to emissions, and our role in the Green house effect, we've deterred it. With that said, I'm not an expert in this particular side of climate change. And thus, I'm not capable of debunking and explaining every nuance. I'm more focused on the Green House Effect side of climate change. And it's contribution to the death of most of the world's Coral Reefs

Bravo Mike Prophet are you in California? I heard it was hard to get a weapon permit here. I don’t have any felony or charges and I think I would qualify but I’m on anti depression medication and chances are they wouldn’t give me a permit for that reason alone. So haven’t tried yet. Id say try to get that under control as far has handling your emotions as best as you can and mentally train yourself of the responsibilities and consequences of carrying, using, and owning firearms.

I love bonfires especially those on US soil. As soon as my leave is approved, I will take a vacation to California to experience first hand the once-in-a-lifetime scenery. I will be the first US bonfire tourist. May more follow my foot steps. This is the best way to help those 'burnt-out' Americans.
US should promote this 'American first' to the world and organize tour groups. The luxury group should include a helicopter trip to the center of the fire. Anyone who loves smoked meat would appreciate the experience. I will too.
