  • In this video we talk about our experiences with the Zoom F6 and Zoom F3. In general we find the F3 may be sufficient for some weddings but find that we need the F6 for other events - especially when time code is important.
The main difference is the ability to do time code internally/externally, the battery options, and the amount of inputs you need.
Both of these recorders can accept a line level, a mic level, and a mic level with phantom power for all 6 - along with both channels. On the F6 you can control the amount of gain externally, but you don't have that ability on the F3. The Zoom F6 has 6 inputs. It also has the ability to add an external battery, where the F3 doesn't. The F3 can be powered by a USB-C if needed.

Hey, came here to check out the F3. Regarding the F6 some minor corrections: the knobs don‘t control the gain. In 16/24 bit the gain is controlled using the buttons and the display. In 32 bit float the gain cannot be set. The knobs though work like faders on a mixing board in that they control the volume with which each input signal is sent to the stereo / main out.
In 32 bit float the knobs can alternatively configured to control the volume of the individual audio files. But this can always be changed later in your DAW or video editing software without changing the quality of the signal.
Also when used as an audio interface the F6 can send a stereo signal or all 6 channels individually to the computer. With the latest firmware update it can now also send a 32 bit signal to the computer.

Why use the tentacle on the F6 vs the zoom Bluetooth adapter?

Wow! Crazy to find you here. We met briefly at a wedding last month for Taylor & Ricky. I was the assistant videographer for wildwood weddings. You were the DJ for the event, right?
