The song is very true to when gospel music found its way into white churches. Kudos to whoever translated this, it was really well done to get rhyming in while keeping at least 90% of the message and connotations.
And it's not even exaggerated (well, not much anyway)! A Russian-orthodox patriarch blamed covid on the gays just a couple of years ago. Which makes the joke even better imo
Everyone in Sweden who grew up or was alive in the early 2000s knows of this masterpiece. I don't know if I've met a single person who didn't find it at least a bit funny. This is a satire of evangelical christians specifically. Sweden had a state church all the way from the reformation up until very recently. The state church "Svenska kyrkan" as they are still called, have been quite progressive and accept gay priests as well as performing gay weddings. The evangelical movement is Sweden is a whole topic in itself, but I'll give a quick summary: "Frikyrkor" (free churches, or free congregations) are religious congregations that started to emerge in the late 1800's and were allowed to separate from the the state church in the early 1900's The free congregations come in the usual flavours ranging from pretty lame to outright doomsday cults, and some of them, especially the pentacostals, are quite inspired by the white evangelical movement in the USA.

A great song from a great tv show. I have felt it was a bit of a homage to one of the earliest comedy groups. Well, two groups actually Galenskaparna och After Shave. They made a lot of great shows and movies in the late 80ies and early 90ies. And the one I think Grotesko made an homage to is from the movie "Hajen som viste för mycket" or "The shark who knew to much". The movie pokes fun at the stock traders' newly rich yuppies of that era. The song is called "Himmelen har skänkt oss alibi" or "The Heavens has granted us alibi". It's a fraternity of these people singing about how the problems in the world have nothing to do with them because, you guessed it, they have an alibi. I have included two links to it, one is a clip from he movie, and as you can see its fairly similar both in style and tone. ruclips.net/video/7NAzfX3fljs/видео.html The other is just the audio from the group's youtube: ruclips.net/video/utM6kNmEWew/видео.html I hope you enjoy it =)

This was the theme song for the Pride festival in Stockholm, it's a banger!!
Robert Gustavssons “speech” to the real Swedish king on his birthday is just crazy good…but I don’t know if you can find it with English subtitles…
One time I ( a high school student) was in the locker room before P.E class, and all the guys started singing this.
Yeah, brilliant choice. It's an absolute classic this one.
Jösses, det var längesen jag såg detta.😂
Nu behöver jag leta reda på Älgarna demonstrerar och Köttbullar i näsan!😅
It's an classic by now ! Love Grotesco
Glad you like it. It was the clip of that year. Grotesco is da bomb.
Next level freedom of expression in action.
would love to see more of this. there is alot of classics that is satire like this, but i dont know if it has english subtext in it
Everyone in Sweden who grew up or was alive in the early 2000s knows of this masterpiece. I don't know if I've met a single person who didn't find it at least a bit funny.
That being said, if this were done today... OH BOY, would it get accused of promoting hate speech and the like. The world changed a bit too much in some areas, sadly.
Just stumbled upon this video and saw the thumbnail, and you brought back a lot of memories, thanks a lot!
My birth was in 2010 and I saw this live once lol.
Luckily somebody showed you Grotesco, one of the best humourshows in the world without a doubt.
So spot on though. 'I don't know what chapter, verse or part' Hahaha.
I can recommend Fredrik Andersson - Chinese girlfriend 😁 If you want some more with Grotesco, take a look at this: Grotesco - Runka Bulle (Soggy Biscuit, english subtitles).
Still sometimes comes up in discussion as a jioke when something has gone wrong. "But you know whose fault it is right?" and everyone starts singing lol.
Well this brings back so many memories, love it
I did once have a legit reason for singing this: the Pride parade was messing up the buses and I was late to my god friend’s party (filled with gays). They laughed so hard when I finally made it!
This is among the very best of Swedish humour
Grotesco was an incredibly funny show. Very little Swedish comedy has been subtitled in English. Some of Anders och Mans is good. If you find some more let us know!
This is a satire of evangelical christians specifically.
Sweden had a state church all the way from the reformation up until very recently. The state church "Svenska kyrkan" as they are still called, have been quite progressive and accept gay priests as well as performing gay weddings.
The evangelical movement is Sweden is a whole topic in itself, but I'll give a quick summary: "Frikyrkor" (free churches, or free congregations) are religious congregations that started to emerge in the late 1800's and were allowed to separate from the the state church in the early 1900's
The free congregations come in the usual flavours ranging from pretty lame to outright doomsday cults, and some of them, especially the pentacostals, are quite inspired by the white evangelical movement in the USA.
And today they make Greta Thunberg a holy Saint as Jeanne Darc.
This song makes me think of "Blame Canada"...don´t get me wrong I did like this satire song when it first come out...but I like "Blame Canada" more.😂🤣🤣😇
The thing is, this song is like 15 years old. They were very ahead of their time *humming on the song*
Nice reaction.
Next song "Sabaton - Blood of Bannockburn"? :)
I am a Swede and I have Never heard this. Thanks
I don't know if you notice the pastor and the small boy almost at the end. The pastor sings about his neck hurting from looking to long at the computer. Then the pastor is standing with the boy. Look how he's touches the boy.
This song is soo catchy, a regular on my friend groups pre parties
Worlds best satire.. ❤
Lovit as a Swedish
The independent church is the one that is mocked in this video. The independent churches is usually more extrem in their point of views. And the way they music is reminds much how their music is. Today Sweden is a country that become overly pc. That makes it even more funny. The irony in this is genius
Some Monty Python influence
As a Swedish gay I endorse this message. Satan himself isn’t to blame, everything’s my fault. Now. Let’s get back to vibing to the anthem of Swedish gays
someone was on acid when they made those lyrics.
SUCH a fun one it is, I freakin love it ^^ Back in the day, they even played it live on a swedish pride festival haha xD And yes, homosexuals DO understand the sarcasm in it and I have several gay friends who freakin loves it :P
The one thing uniting the big religions... blame it on the gays!
It’s a great song, and factually accurate
2:33 "The Eurovision song contest just NEVER seems to end!", well, the gays probably are to blame for that one 😂
The song got very popular in the gay community here in Sweden.
I remember this song was actually featured in a ”Hits for Kids” CD🤣
This is a classic 😂
Please watch Grotesco Tingeling!
I sing this at least seven times a week
Galenskaparna - After Shave is a classic comedy group👍
Yup, this is sang quite often, and I don’t think I’ve ever come across someone who hasn’t heard it or at least heard about it.
Another great thing with this was that a Swedish pastor shared it and said "Finally someone who dare to say the truth". He did not understand that the satire was to make people like him looking stupid and with that comment he just proved that they were right.
If you want to have a look at swedish satire/ironical humor then Killing gänget is a good group to have a look at. Their shows Nile City and Persy tårar are golden pieces of comedy.

The other is just the audio from the group's youtube:

I hope you enjoy it =)
I am happy that free speech lives and thrives in Sweden. They have always been at the forefront. Would this be acceptable anywhere else? Britain perhaps?
My grandmother knew this song and always pulled it as a joke when something went wrong in the world :D
He´s not a skinhead but a realy big komedian/actor and owner of a theatre in sweden .
I must say that I love your accent. Scottish and Irish is my weakness. 😁
You should watch trögfattarnas förening. It is a old comady in sweden
The downside is that you start going around singing it, and people will hear you and think that you've lost it.
a fun fact is that Henrik Dorsins brother Mikael Dorsin used to play for the swedish national team in fotball
Swedes aren't laughing too much anymore. The mockers are being mocked.
Every Swede know this song by heart. It's from a time when humour was still legal and the left had not yet destroyed the country.
