Hey guys! I'm Alexandra Gater and I show you how to do rental-friendly upgrades and DIY projects on a budget. New videos every Saturday! Today I'm tackling a tiny powder room and turning it into a space with a ~dark and moody~ vibe. I hope this helps you with decorating ideas for your own tiny bathroom! I thrifted almost everything in this bathroom to keep it budget-friendly and made sure that everything in this space is renter-friendly as well.

I really like this. It's nice to see Alexandra go outside of her comfort zone and use colors other than pale pink and sage green. Well done!
It's cute, I really like it. I, personally would have kept the crystals on the light fixture.
Suggestion: Battery operated taper candle for the sconce.
I was looking to to see if anyone else mentioned that. Over the top means jewels!
I was also sad about the removal of the crystals. I thought they were a total vibe

I’m so happy you went dark and moody! Such a small, mostly for guests space deserves something DRAMATIC.
There's no reason to have a gap at the top of the wallpaper. You simply hang the wallpaper with overhang at the top (just like you do at the bottom), and then trim it up afterwards. That way it's both level/straight and goes all the way to the edge of the wall.
Also the pattern doesn't line up correctly at the join.
Yeah, I was confused by that "trick" to keep things level.

I’m so happy Alexandra went for something different here! (I know she likes cremes,pinks and so on) It’s very refreshing and she can definetely do any style and colour renovation
But she has used a lot of bold
colors too. Remember the all green bedroom she makeover for one her fellow RUclipsrs? It was like this bathroom
When wallpapering you should draw a plumb line and use that as your straight edge to start wallpapering, not your walls ceiling or skirtingboards as you will find they are never plumb..
I’ve always understood that about paper. But what is skirtingboards, I’ve never heard that? (My first thought would be baseboards; that sit on the floor?) thanxabunch ❤️😀
@@rachelburgener819 skirting board and baseboard are the same thing. I know UK calls them skirting boards.

I hope they go back in and redo the wallpaper for those folks....it would drive me nuts daily to see the pattern not line up. Otherwise I love this makeover and all things AG.
Not neccesary with a busy print. Only someone anal with a case of constipation and a long time on the toilet would notice. Nothing a coffee enema couldn't fix.

The wallpaper - I had no idea it was even possible! And I love the WC sign - so much more dignified than BATHROOM
I really am digging this look. That paper is gorgeous and the thrifted mirror is perfect. I would leave the crystals on on the light fixture but like the bulbs better.

The ceiling should have been painted black or gold to really top off the design. It’s too safe.
LOVE THIS! Most people avoid dark and moody because it can make a space feel enclosed but this was so cosy and transporting. It’s a fresh take on the gold accent and deep green palm leaf wallpaper I usually see, although I love that too 🥰
Love, love, the wallpaper. Wish it were hung with more care so it wasn't so mismatched. Beautiful powder room and you could tell they were so happy with it.

I am so surprised at how much I like this. I love the random quirkiness and moodiness of it. The random photos and that mirror are perfect in here. Love how the "cat" is highlighted above the sink, lol!

Ah so pretty! I love the wallpaper. It really feels like a bathroom you'd find in an upscale nightclub, bar, or restaurant. It's amazing how much bigger the room looks with the darkness. Their place in general is gorgeous too. Also I love your polka dotted skirt. So cute!
I would never in a million years have picked that wallpaper but it is truly amazing. It looks gorgeous in the space and the whole room is really transformed! Looks so great!

LOVE the wallpaper! I think it's a perfect design aesthetic when a tiny room is made into a "jewel". The only thing I would change would be the white mat on the one picture, at least it looks white on screen? Maybe a cream, gray, or black mat? I would love this powder room :)
Traditionally Alexandra’s room designs are not my style, but this one very much was. It’s gorgeous!
The wall paper steals the show. This is my favorite makeover !
Around 1980 a friend of a friend had the powder room in her post-war home done in a floral wallpaper with a black background sort of in the style of a still life as is popular today, but she had a black sink and commode. That was *awesome* ! That’s what I like about older bathrooms (1930s-1960s), the sink, toilet, and bathtub matched and usually matched either the main color of the ceramic tile or the accent color. The floor tile matched the walls giving the bathroom a very spa-like, almost Grecian effect, especially during the Art Deco years.

Love it! Half baths are the best place to do something so dramatic like this. You’re not in there often enough to get really sick of it.
Normally I wouldn’t like dark colors in a small space, but that wallpaper is stunning!! It’s a whole mood

I love this, and also really appreciate the tip about making paper artwork templates to test positioning. When room is small and dark why not accent it further and glory in it. Lovely.

Gorgeous wallpaper, just amazing. But I can't with the gap at the ceiling and the mismatched paper. Oof.
Thought I was the only one who noticed that mismatch. The crooked WC sign and mirror were also jarring. Her designs are always lovely but the execution is sometimes sloppy.

I really liked this makeover. I think by thrifting so many gold things it avoids that cheesy cheap gold look that can happen with accessories. I did immediately see the wallpaper not lining up. With such a big bold print it really stands out.

It’s so silly when landlords won’t let people paint. Just make it part of the lease that they must paint it back at their expense. It’s paint.

That poor leopard's broken tail would drive me nuts. I know because of time you had to show the wallpaper as is, but am very, very hopeful that by the time this video has aired that panel will have been properly re-hung and the leopard made whole.
I have the same wallpaper in my hallway. It's absolutely beautiful. I agree, the owner is so awesome and friendly. His wallpaper can get pricey but the quality is amazing and so worth it

Have you thought about battery operated candles? I love mine. They're on timers 6 hrs on 18 off. Automatic night lite and ambiance for the bathroom. Not to mention safe.

Love this so much! So epic to see Alexandra do moody rather than pastel! The wallpaper is perfection but was hung so bad! Bubbles, rips, gaps and the pattern didn’t even line up! Hope he went back and fixed it!

the fact that the wallpaper pattern doesn't match in two panels shows that it's really important that two people install it.

This has to be one of my favorites of your decorating videos …..with the exception of the pictures. The wallpaper is so special it speaks on its own. I would have used the picture $$ to update the light switches. But really, this is beautiful. Your choice of wallpaper and accessories are exceptional.
