I thought so too, but then I realized the intake on the side. Probably not as efficient but still - there is an intake for the fans.

PC case pressure, this is a pretty standard practice. I'll butcher the explanation but long story short, airflow works better in enclosed PC. Gamers nexus did a good video about it, I am just mobile and can't find the link.
