Thanx for the reviews. Using grey market toner carts may impact on your warranty. Where I live Brother on site warrants their laser printers for 4 years providing you use Brother toner carts. . I recently had to use this onsite service when black marks started appearing on pages. Turned out when the tech came on site that the genuine Brother toner cart I had put in about 4 weeks before was faulty . He just changed it out to a new one and took the old one back. So I guess while it's in that 4 year period I'll have to keep using the expensive Brother carts.
Chances are the drum as dirty and the cleaning blade was bent or just dirty. Laser Printers aren't that hard to figure out, provided you source toner from good source you won't have any issues.

You say the Epson 8550 prints 8.5x14 but Epson says it will print photos up to 13x19
You're mistaking the 8500 with the 8550. They each have different print sizes.
