- A long road trip to Tonbridge and returning via Redhill and Eastleigh in June 1995 .
I was rewarded by the first reported working of Eurotunnel 37s dragging a Eurostar to Dollands Moor and the Tonbridge-Willesden TPO at Redhill.
Anyway hope you enjoy this set of Southern Clips.
Can’t believe the amount of litter between the platforms. Seems that we were worse then than we are now. Very nostalgic video.Really enjoyed it.
Thanks Mick, always aware of the state of our stations,European networks put ours to shame.
I grown up right by Tonbridge station and saw the Eurostar every day! My mum who also grew up in the same house in Barden Rd remembers the last of the steam trains too. These sounds and sights bring back good memories; including the freight trains making the windows shake in the house!
Brilliant. Loved every minute. many thanks
Just seen this Brian - what a great trip you had. All those loco movements; the different franchises / paint jobs / logos / variety of locos, a TPO, first Eurostar and the layouts at stations in the south east at that time - just 22 years ago and so much has changed. Thanks for uploading these memories :)
Brian Seaman .....a pleasure thanks...regards Brian
Nice filming , Brian - 37's looking good again amongst the variety ! 👍-Ian
Cheers Ian
The trusty old infuriating bell at Redhill 😂 trains from Dorking (my home town)

319 @ 6:17 with Network South Central branding, which I've never seen before
Excellent footage right up my street or should I say track 😎👍

Robert Masterman thanks Rob this was shot on low band 8mm camcorder but captured through an a/log to digital converter into the P&C which I have still got.....cheers Brian
avesome video, great diesel footage from Tonbridge when I used to work over there.
Clive Harman thanks Clive much appreciated
Amazing video such variety!
Dean57010 thanks Dean
Very nice footage and interesting locos and units on show Brian! Quite a variety of diesels, class 73s on both electric and diesel modes (loved the EE engine Sounds!), 33, 37, 47, 71 and 73. The 47s were well to the fore and great to sees many of them in pre 66 days! Altho I'm not familiar with Southern emus a few of them looked like quite vintage sets in their last days - can you remember any details of the units and locos filmed? Excellent footage! Thanks. Ken
Ken Browne Thanks Ken,identification of the units is difficult except from what you can see on the clips, same for the locos really......37601/2 37372 and 242 ,the 73 atTonbridge is the same as the one at Redhill 73119.
Cheers,Brian
nice one brian
I like this one Brian, it looks like Redhill was an interesting place to be only 20 years ago? Not like now.
Anthony Holloway ,thanks Tony
Redhill used to such a diverse little station, with postal, freight, Intercity plus expresses passing through. This in addition to the local services.
Now it's a bland, boring station with only 377s, 700s & Turbos on local services.
Bloody sad Eurostar trains had to go slow with only 750v dc third rail for power for so long:-((
But brilliant to see double-headed 37's hauling a Eurostar with a tail lamp :-))
