    Y'all was so quick to put Shai as a top teir player even though he really has done nothing except foul grift for more ppg. Steph won a finals MVP was not considered top 5 in 2023 while Luka missed the playoffs and was still in the top 5 but now it's all about what happed last season. Steph is still doing his thing with role players and Luka cant win with Kyrie and Klay.

      I always questioned the definitive notion of shai>tatum definitively, I feel like there should’ve been an argument at the very least, to me shai is lumped w Tatum AD KD Steph in the 4-9 range. And I’d still have Embiid top 3 even tho he’s injured frequently

    The only reason Steph's numbers don't match up with shay or Luca is because he doesn't get the whistle. There's about 10 points a game that the refs take away from him.

    You've also seen Curry and the Warriors outplay Luka and the Mavs in the playoffs. How quickly they forget. Cool thing is they'll be able to do it against a greater number of weak defenders if the Mavs make it to the playoffs this year considering they didn't have Irving and now that Klay is a slow footed immobile perimeter defender. 3 defensive liabilities on the court at the same time is a recipe for disaster. Especially in the offs.
    On another note, the position that you need a larger sample size to say Curry is better than Luka or Shai considering his body of work and the factual history that he has come through on the biggest of stages makes no logical sense if you say in the next breath that you believe his form to close last season was a slump. If you believe its a slump, you don't need a larger sample size, because the reality of the situation is you have about 8-10 more years of evidence supporting Curry as the better player. Your position would make logical sense if you believe he's losing it. You're trying to have it both ways on a topic that is more or less, mutually exclusive. That's not a valid position to take on any mutually exclusive topic. It's basically just hedging your bets in case the Warriors make another run.

    When you talk about steph counting stats not being in the same stratosphere as some other superstars it seems like you're just taking his stats at face value with no context. Curry has even been injured or sat out in games that the warriors easily won and he didn't have to play in the 4th. However, Per 36 mins steph is averaging 29/8/6/2 so seems pretty elite to me

    It's pretty clear to me that Kuminga would average 20-25 efficient points if he played 30-35 minutes. IMO I need to see them try that and fail before I'd be OK making a trade for a "true number 2." And I don't really want to hear about his youth/inexperience. I saw Jimmy Butler at his big age double pump and pass in lieu of attempting a buzzer beater. Kuminga's readiness and savvy are underrated, and he'll get better very quickly if given the opportunity.

Why i think you have some people calling you out on tatum is because you dock tatum for those shortcomings but dont dock giannis. Dont dock luka,. Dont dock SGA. Like i said earlier, i'd probably dock luka at this point and switch him with tatum. Jason, I'm a huge Celtics fan and JT's my favorite player. Even though I would've ranked him top 5 going into this season, I've NEVER had an issue with your placement of him in your rankings because you use concrete stats to backup your reasoning. Your analysis is what makes every video you make worth watching, even if I don't always see eye-to-eye with you on everything. I honestly don't get how other Tatum fans have a hard time understanding your takes or somehow see it as disrespectful. Tatum is currently having an MVP-caliber start to this season, and you've acknowledged that. What more do we need??

      @ Yep, I hear ya bro. One of the many things I appreciate about Jason is his use of breakdown of specific situations and use of statistical evidence, rather than reliance on simple “hot takes”. And sure, he still injects his opinions based on his own beliefs in how basketball should be played, but that’s always going to have some people agree and some people disagree. I see it as good for discourse, because at least his opinions are backed by solid reasoning. When some folks resort to calling him being disrespectful for what I think are very sound opinions is where I get a little bothered. I’m just glad he remains unbothered by it.

  • @misterbarkin
    @misterbarkin 5 часов назад +1

    Love your content man. Reasoned and rational.
    But there's one thing I need to push back against.
    You consistently say that the Warriors need more firepower. That they should consolidate and make a trade. Maybe that's true, maybe it's not. I'd argue we don't know yet. Based on the evidence we have so far, the Warriors seem to have out-strategized everyone. They are not just dominating, but they are doing it within the constraints the new CBA creates. So far, there's nothing that's broken, so what possible reason could there be for the Warriors to change something that's not just working on the court, but that is **really** working in terms of the business (which, of course, gives them more flexibility in the future). I have been hard on Steve Kerr the last few years-with his treatment of the young guys, his frighteningly bad rotations (he definitely cost the Dubs a number of games last year), but maybe he too needed a reset from all the drama and this is Steve showing us the brilliant strategist he is. He and Dunleavy have built a team around youth, speed, depth, and a transcendent superstar.
    Saying that the Warriors "need more top end talent" doesn't line up with the evidence we have so far. And so that take must be based on some theoretical idea you have in your head of a winning basketball team.
    Let's just say, hypothetically, then when we get to the All Star break, the Warriors are .750. JK had 2 bad games at the top of the season, but since he's caught a rhythm, he's been the secondary scorer you've been asking for off the bench. He's been shooting 47% from 3 in the last 5 games. So maybe, we get to the all star break and JK is clearly the 2nd option the Warriors have been looking for. In that case, are you still going to be calling for a trade? Saying the front office should "fix" what's already working? It feels, to me, like new information isn't going to change your opinion here.

    I would seperate luka from steph by one factor: Luka is a great offensive juggernaut, he can score, pass, and make the right reads. Steph obviously the best shooter ever, but the factor that really puts him over the edge for me is that he plays great (I mean way better than people give him credit for) defense. Luka could care less 90% of the time. There is a lack of hustle. Steph hustles. And, right now, is averaging damn near 2 steals a game. Luka just lost the game for the mavs on defense, it was sad.

    I think the reason people are having a problem with the Steph takes is because he has been playing like a top 5 player for years. Now he has had some "slumps" during that span but he has done it pretty consistently since 2015. A lot of the people that get put above him are having "a really good year" or also have glaring flaws. Like Luka's defense. Steph has done it for a decade or more consistently and has the rings to show it.

    Pistons super-fan here.
    I believe the Pistons have hit on multiple draft picks over the last 3-4 years and that Cade-Ivey-Duren is a good core to build around.
    We have tried to be young and fun and ended up being one of the worst teams in NBA history. We’re now trying to add some playable vets and win, but will likely waffle under .500 this year.

    As a Celtics fan, I don’t really get the hate for Jason. Tatum objectively had real half court limitations that separated him from jokic Luka and sga. If tatums shooting continues for the whole season, I think he’s in that tier. Listing him in the second tier of superstars based on last year is totally accurate. Let’s not act like his shooting diet wasn’t incredibly frustrating and inefficient at times last year

    Any dubs fan that thinks this roster is a wcf or finals favorite is in dream land. It might happen but if we’re being real they have to make a trade or two and shorten the rotation, get incredible health and production from older players. (Curry, Green, Looney). Heck even Bob Myers said nobody after the 21 season expected the 22 dubs to win anything. This has a similar feeling.

    I’d consider myself a pretty level headed Celtics’ fan (which I understand is not always easy to find in that fanbase) but I think the majority of the fanbase is hypersensitive when it comes to him vs Ant is because back in 2020-2021 he in Ant’s position. He was the shiny new toy and was propped up to being crowned the next big thing in the league and now that narrative is cemented in their brains. Now that Ant is in that position, like Tatum, I think he is being crowned way too quickly and guys like Tatum are in that realm that Ant is supposedly jumping ahead of. Tatum’s version of that was KD after the playoff series in 2022. They’re both great players who have potential to be top 5/MVP. There’s no need to set a crazy high standard where anything short of that is considered failure.

    I hope Jason doesn’t let the internet affect his opinions, like pretty much every other sports “commentator”. He’s the only one who not only understands causation versus correlation. But he consistently applies it to his takes. So even when I disagree with one his takes strongly. Like Lebron being the goat. I’ll actually keep listening to his takes because his logic is consistent across all players. Everyone else that talks sports molds their takes around their favorite players or teams. Someone will value shooting as an skillset for example. But not because they really believe shooting or passing impacts the game the most. But because their favorite players, best attribute is shooting or passing. So that’s the specific thing they will consistently highlight & holdup. But let’s say that player isn’t shooting or passing well, all of sudden they’ll highlight the other things that impact winning that never mention prior. People are more interested in protecting their favorite players legacy then being honest about what they’re seeing on the court. Jason ISNT one of those people. So he’s really the only basketball channel worth watching. It’s his genuine opinions based on solid reasoning every time.

  • @lookatcurryman8793
    @lookatcurryman8793 5 часов назад

    I thought Jason did a great job keeping his consistent standards of evaluating players. He would strongly defer to the playoff performance LAST season. Remember he consistently ranked Warriors high in the 2023 season even though Warriors was a total mess, just because they're the defending champ. So I understand why he's relunctant to write off Luka and put Steph in the best players convo. Even though people might disagree with him, there is no reason in hating.
    The ones who really deserve hate are the ones who contradict themselves just to fit a new narrative every once in a while.

    Mailbag questions: 1. Do you think Draymond's contract is a bounus or a liability now? I am thinking about how the Warriors get better this year from last year from a players' contract perspective. 2. I always think that defense is the most important thing for both 15, 22 Warriors championship run, other than Curry both teams doesn't have a consistent second star-level creator(15 Klay maybe?), but both team have a good enough offensive floor and both team have elite defense, do you think 24 Warriors can duplicate this 15 and 22 Warriors model? Or Curry is too old now he can't go through the whole 82 season+4 rounds playoffs, so he must have another great offense creator? Thank you Jason~

    you need to see more from Steph to say he's better than Shai or Luka? Isn't that backwards, in the context of "who are you riding with for the playoffs," since neither Shai nor Luka has even been to the Finals, while Curry has shown he's a champion again and again? It's Luka or Shai who have to prove they can lead a team to a title, even once. Luka is a baby, terrible attitude, not dedicated to winning, has never gotten his body right, is a terrible leader... SGA is a better leader, but he's an outrageous foul grifter who has not shown he can win the big games - yet. It's OUTRAGEOUS how you ignore Luka's bad conditioning and terrible attitude when ranking him ahead of guys like Steph that have titles. Insane hype-sniffing stuff
