- In the 1990’s, this six feet two inches tall ex-football player was the boogeyman of hip-hop. Suge Knight was the big cigar smoking label owner that had everyone terrified. Well, maybe not everyone.
One of the rappers who really didn’t give a eff about Suge was Eazy E. Back in the early 90s, Dr. Dre wanted to leave N.W.A. However, unlike Ice Cube who seemed to get out of Ruthless Records easily, Eazy E wasn’t going to let Dre out of his contract.

I wish Eazy was still around today. It would be so interesting to hear his opinions on many things as, for me, he was Hip-Hop's original punk rocker. He didn't care, he was just all charisma and attitude and he was going to do things his way. So sad how it all ended for him because had he managed to stick around for just a few more years his sickness would've been treatable and we would be blessed to still have him around stirring things up in a way only Eazy knew how

I didn’t really mean it that way - I was trying to convey the fact that Eazy was probably the guy who reached the top despite not being able to actually rap at all (in the beginning), not give 2 fks about anything and do things his way … or rather “My Way”, to borrow from Sid (although if I’m making such comparisons, Eazy is probably more Johnny Rotten than Sid Vicious)

Being somebody from L.A County and growing up in that era I can say the only people who were “terrified” of Suge were those outside of the hood and the industry people. Everybody knew Suges strength came from buyin protection from M.O.B.and Suge also knew who he could and couldn’t pull that bs on. He never touched Eazy like the video said because every Crip from Compton to Watts damn near would’ve destroyed M.O.B and I don’t even think M.O.B would’ve green lighted that knowing what comes with that
