Honestly though, I love you for always being so real and including moments like this, as they are also part of our life experiences. i’m sorry dish! the same thing happened to my sister and my dad and step-mom called everyday and we finally managed to snatch an appointment in LA we begged and cried and still no passport, we were supposed to go to mexico but instead stayed home and tried to make the most of the situation. i promise it will all be ok in the end, and you may get another chance in the future

It's great that you can eventually accept what happened, and weigh out the pros and cons, and continue looking for the bright side. Dear Dish, I'm very sorry. I had something like that happen once. It was the summer after 7th grade and we were about to go on a big trip to Europe. I had never been outside of the US before, and we had a bunch of fun things planned so I was very excited. But 3 days before we were going to leave, the doctors diagnosed my dad with cancer and told us he had to go in for kimotherapy. The relationship between my dad and I is complicated, he's a raging video game addict. I only saw him for 2 hours every 3 days of the week because he worked a long ways away and rented an apartment closer to his work and stayed there half the time so his commute was shorter. When he was home he would play video games and if I interrupted him he yelled at me. He got into fights with my mom in front of me often, and the few times he actually tried teaching me something he was very impatient and yelled at me for not listening if I didn't get it right away, and he ended up yelling at me more than actually showing me something. He also wanted to be babied by everyone(he was ordering his sister to make him sandwiches until he was 31), including me so I had to grow up faster. But he's still my father. Sometimes I find myself wishing for a better dad but he's what I have. The person who raises you is one of the most important people in your life. No matter how much you may hate your parent they still gave birth to you, you still love them to some extent. And hearing that they're going to die, it's... really rough. I get angry at the things he's done, but I've never, NEVER wished him death. They said that he couldn't go to Europe and we weren't just going to leave him there, so even though it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, we missed out on it and stayed with him. What I thought was going to be a happy summer turned out to be some of the worst years of my life. They took him into the hospital 2 months later to start the kimo. They had to put a hole in his chest where they put the stuff that would wipe out the cancer and if you didn't know it's a very rough process on the body. It wipes out your immune system and just completely wrecks you, he was puking all of the time and if he got out of bed he needed a walker to get around. We visited him almost every day, even the days I had soccer practice, that on top of the advanced classes I was taking and the mental stress of worrying about my dad really stressed me out. After a while, things seemed to be going well for him until the doctors found out that he had a second cancer as well, and it was stage 4. I thought he was going to die. Visiting him every day and seeing his condition getting worse slowly broke me, piece by piece, but all I could do was watch. That was a dark time for me. If I wasn't doing homework, playing soccer, or seeing him, I was crying. About a year passed, and the doctors offered to give him a more aggressive treatment, it had a lower survival rate than the stuff he was using previously, but it was his only chance so he took it. It looked bad for a while, but then he started improving. I was so, so glad for the progress but I didn't want to get my hopes up because he could still die. But after 6 months, he actually beat it. But less than a year later, my parents divorced, ruining the chance of a happy family vacation forever. I know life can sometimes be very cruel, but all you can do is keep moving forward. You lose things, but that means you were lucky enough to have them in the first place. As bad as it was, at least I had a family. At least I COULD HAVE gone to Europe. The way you move on is by focusing on what you do have instead of what you don't. I have food, I have a house, I have kind friends, I have a wonderful, loving dog. Those things make me happy. I hope you can focus on the things you have that make you happy, too.

No walk ins or online appointments and just phone calls? This is....stone age to be completely honest. This is why I love living in Europe. These things although sometimes not handled well in general have better structure to avoid things like this happening. I once forgot my passport in a bag that my gf took with her on a trip to the US and was supposed to travel to another EU country meanwhile via ship (which requires passport to board ofc) with friends. I didnt notice it until 1 hour (!!) before the ship departed. And it was a sunday. Guess what, I called the magistrate that administers all passport regarded matters and within 30 minutes I was able to get an emergency passport that is valid for one year, went on my trip and had no issues at all. Probably wouldnt work for transatlantic travels though since I dont know if the US would accept these special passports (although they look and have all entries just the normal one).
You’re right that Europe is way better at processing and expediting passports than the US since so many of its residents regularly travel across country borders, but I’m fairly sure that the “phone calls only” policy is left over from COVID and the difficulty of getting an appointment that way is because tons of people now want to travel after 2 years of being stuck here. Ordinarily the demand isn’t this high, so there may be staffing issues as well. Gotta love living in the US of A 🙃

Its nice to see a look into this and know I'm not alone in this kind of struggle. Sometimes it really feels like you are. I can only imagine how much it sucked to just have to accept that trip wasn't happening. I've been stuck in immigration limbo for more years than I like to admit now. I've been on those calls that just never end or get hung up on before they even get picked up. I've been to the DMV waiting for hours with hopes of getting some stuff done to help with the overall paperwork only to be turned down. I haven't seen my close relatives in years or met my 5 year old niece. Every time we get close to finishing up, something happens. It just sucks because I know the people working in these places are doing their best and they are probably getting more hate than they deserve, but sometimes the sad reality is that it doesn't work out for everyone. And that's frustrating. I hope you get a chance to travel again sometime soon :)

i've experienced something like this recently. i was supposed to be going to my friend's house for a birthday party. we were soo excited we kept on talking about it every day. we were going to make different kinds of foods from different places, we were having a sleepover, etc. until I got dengue fever. i was so disappointed when I couldn't go. i got hospitalized for 5 days. so my summer went a bit downhill
Your attitude towards this whole situation is really inspirational. Bad things that we can't control happen all the time, sometimes small, sometimes huge. Being able to have the perseverance that you did to try and try to work through the problem, and then ultimately being able to accept that the situation is really out of your control and keep moving forward through that harshness is incredible. What a great and honest vlog. We had a similar experience at Star Wars Celebration with the staff at the LA Convention Center; it was a total cluster. I also know the feeling of having to miss out because your passport hasn't yet arrived. It took 9 months for my renewal and I missed an event in Denmark. It's all fun and games until it isn't. Miss Dish, I have watched this video 3 or 4 times, vicariously living my best life through you, seeing you and the scamily having fun! Throughout this last year, you have given me an immense amount of happiness, experiencing all your highs with you. I wasn’t in a very good place this time last year, almost succumbing to covid due to developing pneumonia, I was tapping on deaths door, as well as crippling depression and anxiety. But discovering you, gave me so much hope that life can become much better than what you’re going through in that moment. Seeing you so sad in this video, it really hit me and i find myself unable to skip it somehow each time i rewatch. Seeing you so vulnerable made me realise that it’s okay to show how you truly feel and that all the highs come with lows. i feel so lucky to be in scotland. literally three days after i sent off my passport, a renewed one arrived at my door. in england, it takes literal months. and in the states it can be even worse. it means i can go to italy for a few days before i start university! good luck dish, this video was lovely. also if you do get the chance, you should go to NI! my whole family is irish and it’s such a wonderful place.

Honestly I have experienced this problem, I got stuck in Cancun for another day because they won’t let me in back to America because I don’t have the I-something-something stamp on my new passport, my family called the nearest American passport office which is 4 hours away from the airport, and we were just trying to figure it out, we were planning to just drive there, but it just takes too long. And also, I ordered all my computer part delivering to my house, and some of them were here already, and I was in a panic too, but we eventually got our family friends to get our old passports and token pictures of the stamp, and we got back in America. That is the most stressful and nervous 24 hours in my life as I can get stuck in a unsafe city outside of resorts, we can be robbed any time and also would risking getting injured or killed. It’s the scariest day of my life. I feel your pain in the way that you have to experience the fact that it’s way more important than just traveling, for me it’s just a trip that we planned, for you it’s the time and money consuming, and risking your business with it at the same time. I feel sorry just because of this, I hope you get better dish. ❤️

My own experience was somewhat similar where me and a friend were planning on going on a trip and she had applied for her passport a month earlier than I did and we expected hers to arrive first. Lo and behold, MY passport arrived first and alot sooner than I expected while her passport was still nowhere in sight. We tried calling and trying to make appointments day and night but in the end, we had to cancel our trip..... The whole passport process is just so terrible :(

bruh I had such a similar passport experience in may it was for my gf's mom's funeral in europe and I didn't have a passport but luckily it worked out. I called every hour for a week and just barely managed to squeeze an appointment literally 10 minutes after moving out of my apartment and immediately flew to seattle and then flew back from seattle to lax with like 6 hours until the flight from lax to europe it was exhausting.
I had to be in Switzerland 3 weeks ago but here I am still waiting to get a document that was supposed to be done 3 weeks ago. Shit just happens and we can only control so much, but like we can't worry about things that are out of our control. It sucks but seeing as I'm not the only person that this happens to it's reassuring (I don't mean it in a bad way). I like to think that it was not meant to happen because of a greater cause! Love your videos Dish and thank you for sharing even your not-so-great moments so that we can all help and relate to each other in some way!
dish makes all the opportunities ive missed because of my mental disorders just feel so much less painful???? like in a way this makes me feel like everyone has missed opportunities and just because i missed a few hang outs or field trips or whatever, its okay because everyone misses things, and there will always be other opportunities.
But also as like, an immune comprised person during this pandemic stuff these crowds fill my heart with like longing and fear? Like, I’d probably get really Really suck after going to something like this but gosh, there are so many lovely people in the world. I wish organizers would actually put in the effort to like… make things safe and not over crowded
I think i've only seen dish cry this one other time where she was playing the end of Omori (But lets be honest everyone cried during that part, it's kind of unavoidable), aside from that, seeing dish tear up like that really hurt, not only because shes my absolute favorite streamer but also because i think i can also kind of relate to that kind of hopelessness. Honestly, I think it's important to share the ups and downs of an experience. We all like to focus on the positives for the feel good vibes and happiness, but we're also just human, and things happen that put us in a really low place...but it's those moments that really help define who we are as people, and how we cope with it, deal with it and hopefully overcome it next time. Especially for someone with a social media platform to share with people, I think it takes more courage to show that low point and the struggle with overcoming it. It sure as hell isn't easy, but no one ever said life would be right? Thanks for sharing Dish, and I'm glad your doing fine!!

Yeah passports are now taking forever to get lately. It's been taking months and I had that happen to me, too when I was planning a Mexico trip with my bf. But that was on him when I told him he needed to get a passport right away and he didn't (such a procrastinator 🙄) so we had to move our flight dates which ended up costing us way more than it should. Very upsetting. And you got all right to be upset, too.

Your passport experience broke my heart cause there is nothing in the world I would want more to see than your happiness and you living your best life. Honestly though, I love you for always being so real and including moments like this, as they are also part of our life experiences. i’m sorry dish! the same thing happened to my sister and my dad and step-mom called everyday and we finally managed to snatch an appointment in LA we begged and cried and still no passport, we were supposed to go to mexico but instead stayed home and tried to make the most of the situation. i promise it will all be ok in the end, and you may get another chance in the future

I'm very sorry. I had something like that happen once. It was the summer after 7th grade and we were about to go on a big trip to Europe. I had never been outside of the US before, and we had a bunch of fun things planned so I was very excited. But 3 days before we were going to leave, the doctors diagnosed my dad with cancer and told us he had to go in for kimotherapy. The relationship between my dad and I is complicated, he's a raging video game addict. I only saw him for 2 hours every 3 days of the week because he worked a long ways away and rented an apartment closer to his work and stayed there half the time so his commute was shorter. When he was home he would play video games and if I interrupted him he yelled at me. He got into fights with my mom in front of me often, and the few times he actually tried teaching me something he was very impatient and yelled at me for not listening if I didn't get it right away, and he ended up yelling at me more than actually showing me something. He also wanted to be babied by everyone(he was ordering his sister to make him sandwiches until he was 31), including me so I had to grow up faster. But he's still my father. Sometimes I find myself wishing for a better dad but he's what I have. The person who raises you is one of the most important people in your life. No matter how much you may hate your parent they still gave birth to you, you still love them to some extent. And hearing that they're going to die, it's... really rough. I get angry at the things he's done, but I've never, NEVER wished him death. They said that he couldn't go to Europe and we weren't just going to leave him there, so even though it was a once in a lifetime opportunity, we missed out on it and stayed with him. What I thought was going to be a happy summer turned out to be some of the worst years of my life. They took him into the hospital 2 months later to start the kimo. They had to put a hole in his chest where they put the stuff that would wipe out the cancer and if you didn't know it's a very rough process on the body. It wipes out your immune system and just completely wrecks you, he was puking all of the time and if he got out of bed he needed a walker to get around. We visited him almost every day, even the days I had soccer practice, that on top of the advanced classes I was taking and the mental stress of worrying about my dad really stressed me out. After a while, things seemed to be going well for him until the doctors found out that he had a second cancer as well, and it was stage 4. I thought he was going to die. Visiting him every day and seeing his condition getting worse slowly broke me, piece by piece, but all I could do was watch. That was a dark time for me. If I wasn't doing homework, playing soccer, or seeing him, I was crying. About a year passed, and the doctors offered to give him a more aggressive treatment, it had a lower survival rate than the stuff he was using previously, but it was his only chance so he took it. It looked bad for a while, but then he started improving. I was so, so glad for the progress but I didn't want to get my hopes up because he could still die. But after 6 months, he actually beat it. But less than a year later, my parents divorced, ruining the chance of a happy family vacation forever. I know life can sometimes be very cruel, but all you can do is keep moving forward. You lose things, but that means you were lucky enough to have them in the first place. As bad as it was, at least I had a family. At least I COULD HAVE gone to Europe. The way you move on is by focusing on what you do have instead of what you don't. I have food, I have a house, I have kind friends, I have a wonderful, loving dog. Those things make me happy. I hope you can focus on the things you have that make you happy, too.

No walk ins or online appointments and just phone calls? This is....stone age to be completely honest. This is why I love living in Europe. These things although sometimes not handled well in general have better structure to avoid things like this happening. I once forgot my passport in a bag that my gf took with her on a trip to the US and was supposed to travel to another EU country meanwhile via ship (which requires passport to board ofc) with friends. I didnt notice it until 1 hour (!!) before the ship departed. And it was a sunday. Guess what, I called the magistrate that administers all passport regarded matters and within 30 minutes I was able to get an emergency passport that is valid for one year, went on my trip and had no issues at all. Probably wouldnt work for transatlantic travels though since I dont know if the US would accept these special passports (although they look and have all entries just the normal one).
You’re right that Europe is way better at processing and expediting passports than the US since so many of its residents regularly travel across country borders, but I’m fairly sure that the “phone calls only” policy is left over from COVID and the difficulty of getting an appointment that way is because tons of people now want to travel after 2 years of being stuck here. Ordinarily the demand isn’t this high, so there may be staffing issues as well. Gotta love living in the US of A 🙃

Its nice to see a look into this and know I'm not alone in this kind of struggle. Sometimes it really feels like you are. I can only imagine how much it sucked to just have to accept that trip wasn't happening.
I've been stuck in immigration limbo for more years than I like to admit now. I've been on those calls that just never end or get hung up on before they even get picked up. I've been to the DMV waiting for hours with hopes of getting some stuff done to help with the overall paperwork only to be turned down. I haven't seen my close relatives in years or met my 5 year old niece. Every time we get close to finishing up, something happens.
It just sucks because I know the people working in these places are doing their best and they are probably getting more hate than they deserve, but sometimes the sad reality is that it doesn't work out for everyone. And that's frustrating.
I hope you get a chance to travel again sometime soon :)

i've experienced something like this recently.
i was supposed to be going to my friend's house for a birthday party. we were soo excited we kept on talking about it every day. we were going to make different kinds of foods from different places, we were having a sleepover, etc. until I got dengue fever. i was so disappointed when I couldn't go. i got hospitalized for 5 days. so my summer went a bit downhill
Your attitude towards this whole situation is really inspirational. Bad things that we can't control happen all the time, sometimes small, sometimes huge. Being able to have the perseverance that you did to try and try to work through the problem, and then ultimately being able to accept that the situation is really out of your control and keep moving forward through that harshness is incredible. Honestly I don't often watch many of your videos, and after sitting through all of this one, I've realized that I have some catching up to do. 10/10 Vlogger and 10/10 Person, I hope that you get 1000x more opportunities to do what y'all had planned in Europe eventually and I hope I get to see those vlogs too. 🙏

What a great and honest vlog. We had a similar experience at Star Wars Celebration with the staff at the LA Convention Center; it was a total cluster. I also know the feeling of having to miss out because your passport hasn't yet arrived. It took 9 months for my renewal and I missed an event in Denmark. It's all fun and games until it isn't. I feel you, grl.

Miss Dish, I have watched this video 3 or 4 times, vicariously living my best life through you, seeing you and the scamily having fun! Throughout this last year, you have given me an immense amount of happiness, experiencing all your highs with you. I wasn’t in a very good place this time last year, almost succumbing to covid due to developing pneumonia, I was tapping on deaths door, as well as crippling depression and anxiety. But discovering you, gave me so much hope that life can become much better than what you’re going through in that moment. Seeing you so sad in this video, it really hit me and i find myself unable to skip it somehow each time i rewatch. Seeing you so vulnerable made me realise that it’s okay to show how you truly feel and that all the highs come with lows. i feel so lucky to be in scotland. literally three days after i sent off my passport, a renewed one arrived at my door. in england, it takes literal months. and in the states it can be even worse. it means i can go to italy for a few days before i start university! good luck dish, this video was lovely.

Honestly I have experienced this problem, I got stuck in Cancun for another day because they won’t let me in back to America because I don’t have the I-something-something stamp on my new passport, my family called the nearest American passport office which is 4 hours away from the airport, and we were just trying to figure it out, we were planning to just drive there, but it just takes too long. And also, I ordered all my computer part delivering to my house, and some of them were here already, and I was in a panic too, but we eventually got our family friends to get our old passports and token pictures of the stamp, and we got back in America. That is the most stressful and nervous 24 hours in my life as I can get stuck in a unsafe city outside of resorts, we can be robbed any time and also would risking getting injured or killed. It’s the scariest day of my life. I feel your pain in the way that you have to experience the fact that it’s way more important than just traveling, for me it’s just a trip that we planned, for you it’s the time and money consuming, and risking your business with it at the same time. I feel sorry just because of this, I hope you get better dish. ❤️

My own experience was somewhat similar where me and a friend were planning on going on a trip and she had applied for her passport a month earlier than I did and we expected hers to arrive first.
Lo and behold, MY passport arrived first and alot sooner than I expected while her passport was still nowhere in sight. We tried calling and trying to make appointments day and night but in the end, we had to cancel our trip.....
The whole passport process is just so terrible :(

Man dish I'm really sorry but I'm glad you came to terms with it. Seeing you come to terms with it was very encouraging to me since I experience this a lot in life and I have a hard time accepting these kinds of things especially as someone who can't get out much. So yes you weren't meant to go and yeah it hurts and sucks really bad but just know how you handled it was super encouraging and eye opening for me and I'm sure others as well. bruh I had such a similar passport experience in may it was for my gf's mom's funeral in europe and I didn't have a passport but luckily it worked out. I called every hour for a week and just barely managed to squeeze an appointment literally 10 minutes after moving out of my apartment and immediately flew to seattle and then flew back from seattle to lax with like 6 hours until the flight from lax to europe it was exhausting.
I had to be in Switzerland 3 weeks ago but here I am still waiting to get a document that was supposed to be done 3 weeks ago. Shit just happens and we can only control so much, but like we can't worry about things that are out of our control. It sucks but seeing as I'm not the only person that this happens to it's reassuring (I don't mean it in a bad way).
I like to think that it was not meant to happen because of a greater cause! Love your videos Dish and thank you for sharing even your not-so-great moments so that we can all help and relate to each other in some way!
dish makes all the opportunities ive missed because of my mental disorders just feel so much less painful???? like in a way this makes me feel like everyone has missed opportunities and just because i missed a few hang outs or field trips or whatever, its okay because everyone misses things, and there will always be other opportunities.
But also as like, an immune comprised person during this pandemic stuff these crowds fill my heart with like longing and fear? Like, I’d probably get really Really suck after going to something like this but gosh, there are so many lovely people in the world. I wish organizers would actually put in the effort to like… make things safe and not over crowded

I think i've only seen dish cry this one other time where she was playing the end of Omori (But lets be honest everyone cried during that part, it's kind of unavoidable), aside from that, seeing dish tear up like that really hurt, not only because shes my absolute favorite streamer but also because i think i can also kind of relate to that kind of hopelessness. But anyway, I really hope that dish is doing better, and i hope miss dish knows that her audience loves her very much, and we want to help in any way we can if needed 🤍 I also think its very admirable on how well she took the situation after the main storm had passed, i hope i learn to handle things like that to :)
It is pretty sad about what happened with the whole flying to Europe situation but at least you had a fun and memorable time with some friends and at anime expo. Hope your spirits are back up.

Honestly, I think it's important to share the ups and downs of an experience. We all like to focus on the positives for the feel good vibes and happiness, but we're also just human, and things happen that put us in a really low place...but it's those moments that really help define who we are as people, and how we cope with it, deal with it and hopefully overcome it next time.
Especially for someone with a social media platform to share with people, I think it takes more courage to show that low point and the struggle with overcoming it. It sure as hell isn't easy, but no one ever said life would be right? Thanks for sharing Dish, and I'm glad your doing fine!!

Yeah passports are now taking forever to get lately. It's been taking months and I had that happen to me, too when I was planning a Mexico trip with my bf. But that was on him when I told him he needed to get a passport right away and he didn't (such a procrastinator 🙄) so we had to move our flight dates which ended up costing us way more than it should. Very upsetting. And you got all right to be upset, too.
