    The main problem is the tephra emissions. Tephra is essentially the amount of ash emitted and is what defines the size of volcanoes and their eruptions. To be a super volcano you have to have a VEI 8(volcanic explosivity index) 8 eruption and this means at least 1,000 cubic kilometers of tephra emissions. The power of the eruption itself is irrelevant. With super volcanoes the force of the eruptions aren’t usually what people expect. It’s not really an explosion i.e the movie 2012 got it very wrong. They form a caldera which is what is marked in the video for the past eruptions. The rim of the caldera is where the eruptions occur. Basically a fissure opens around its rim. The eruption is like a ring feature essentially while you can still have some eruptions in the middle of the caldera. The caldera is caused by the subsidence of the ground as the underlying magma chamber is emptied.

    I recall a potential for everything within 1,000 miles to be vaporized, or scorched if ya prefer.
    It'll be generally unsavory over an awful vast area, eventually for the entire northern hemisphere.

      @andrewcatlin3590 6 месяцев назад +1

      Everything within a thousand miles would definitely not be vaporized. The main problem is the tephra emissions. Tephra is essentially the amount of ash emitted and is what defines the size of volcanoes and their eruptions. To be a super volcano you have to have a VEI 8 eruption and this means at least 1,000 cubic kilometers of tephra emissions. The power of the eruption itself is irrelevant.

      I came here to say the same thing. USE THE CORRECT SYSTEM, YOU GUYS! We get it, metric is EASIER for the small brains because it counts by 10's. Ours is better because it is CORRECT!
      It's the system that got us to the moon! And won 2 world wars! Those CALIBERS were based on INCHES... and only the Nazis used the Millimeter. We all know that the 50 Caliber is much better.

      But you do: all your units are defined by reference to S.I. (metric) units. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_customary_units
      And when you use your exotic units it goes horribly wrong: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Climate_Orbiter

    An eruption is not the main concern it's the magma chamber emptying enough to cause the cauldera to fall into the chamber causing a super eruption so even is there an small lava expulsion it's concerning but not catastrophic.

    What if Yellowstone was nuked?

    • @jc0895
      @jc0895 5 месяцев назад +1

      Then we probably wouldn’t have to worry about the eruption as the entire area will be vaporized and we would be worrying more about the radiation.
      All jokes aside the US geological survey has stated that a Nuke wouldn’t cause an eruption as the Yellowstone volcano itself has experienced greater releases of energy in the form of earthquakes.

      We definitely would not all die. Most likely we would have ample warning of increasing volcanic activity unrest. Maybe years of time for evacuations to occur. Worst case scenario we would only have a few weeks warning. Still that’s a lot of time for systemic evacuations to occur compared to most natural disasters.

    • @andrewcatlin3590
      @andrewcatlin3590 6 месяцев назад +1

      There is a large mantle plume under the north America plate. The North American plate moves over the plume while eruptions happen periodically. You end up with a long line of eruptions. There’s a trail of them stretching all the way back to what is today Nevada. It’s very similar to how the Hawaiian island chain forms.
