If anyone is afraid of dying, here's a beautiful quote from Dan... "i'm sorry you have such a strong reaction to those fears. i have no real advice other than to remember and take relief in knowing that there was a time before you were alive and there will be a time after you are alive. the time we are alive shouldn't be held in any greater tier. we only live in this particular stretched out instant that lasts as long as we can be conscious within it. for the living, death can only be whatever you think it to be, for it is not ours. if you think life is a preparing for some post-death reality, then live your life whatever way you feel prepares you for post-living. but, do you feel like your current, living self was shaped and framed by a pre-birth consciousness? i like to place pre-birth to life and and life to death/post-life in the same context. was i once just as scared about being alive as i have been about dying?"
This guy is really fucking cool. I once went to a festival concert of his and at the same time a much bigger artist was playing at the main stage and because of that there weren't that many people at Dan's concert, maybe like 75-100. The concert felt as if we were all part of one family for some reason. Afterwards he just walked straight up into the audience, started talking with us, answering questions, making photos for like half an hour. This guy is the real deal.
I hope they listen to Dan Deacon in the 3000s. I dont wanna die :( I often feel I don't want to live, but I'm afraid of death too. What should I do, please someone smart give me advice

Dan, I hope you see this. Your music has changed my life. Given me hope. Made me cry for reasons of beauty and magic. Keep going. We love you. What you do is medicine and the world needs so much more!!!
He is really one of the only artists that I know of who is dedicated to the well-being of his listeners. Both his music and shows make you really think about the present, and how each moment can be an opportunity to better your own life.
Jon Raleigh don’t worry too much, the idea of deserving is made up. A woman was once hit by a car. Those who didn’t like the way she lived said she deserved to die, those who loved her said she didn’t deserve to die. In the end it was all the same.
this year has been one of the hardest of my life so far and i really appreciate the affect this whole album has had on my anxiety + mental health honestly. dan's music has basically carried me thru 2020... i remember the day mystic familiar came out i was having a tough time but i listened to it on the way home from school and i was dancing at the bus stop and stuff :) whenever i feel too stressed out or i need to calm down i listen to this all the way through and do a watercolour painting and drink some chamomile tea and take an edible or something. and it's so good. this is my favourite album to come out this year i wish i could tell dan how much it's meant to me
I remember a time during a major low in my life, secure in my isolation and music, saw DD was touring through my area, I managed to get a friend to come with me. His live show uplifted me to level that I felt connected and safe with everyone dancing. As Dan does, he clears a circle in the crowd for a person to dance while everyone imitates their moves. It was the kind of healing I needed at that moment. I remember exactly how i felt afterward plus a bonus HIGH that lasted days
I very nearly cried in a noodle restaurant when this came on. Completely unexpected emotional reaction prompted by this incredible song. Euphoric and melancholy at once
Can’t believe I only first heard this song today. Yet sometimes music has its way of finding you when you are meant to hear it. Been really depressed lately and this song was like a musical hug. ❤️
one of the most beautiful things I've heard in a while, never been a dan deacon fan but these new singles really caught me off guard. Cant wait for the album to drop
"Let me tell you, 'Become a Mountain' by Dan Deacon, it's tremendous. People are talking about it, they're saying it's fantastic. The beats, the sounds, they're really something else, let me tell you. Dan Deacon, he's done a great job, really tremendous work. It's a winner, folks, believe me. You listen to it, and you'll see, it's the best, absolutely the best. And that's coming from me, and I know good music, believe me." -Donald Trump (probably)
This song makes me feel like actually starting again after really hard moments, thanks Dan Deacon for being my companion in the distance, you inspire me a lot with your music

I've never really gotten the appeal of Dan Deacon. I've tried several times, but his music has never connected with me. I didn't _dislike_ it or anything, it just...left me cold. This, however, is fucking marvelous. I love music than can be simultaneously intimate and expansive, especially when it doesn't feel engineered to do it. I'll definitely be picking up this album when I can.

It’s an indescribable feeling
I rose up
Tired in my flesh
Getting old now
I'm so lucky
Yet I forget I'm still hungry
For the future
On this day before me
Will I seize it or scroll?
All of time
Is right here
Is right now
I've got this feeling
Almost all of the time
I've got this feeling
Like this feeling ain't mine
Mystic familiar
It already knows
I see it waiting for me to explode
Close your eyes
And become a mountain
Become all around you
Become the skies, become the seas
Open your eyes
And remain the mountain
Breathing in deeply
Feeling the day change with the breeze
All of time
Is right here
Is right now
I've got this feeling
Almost all of the time
I've got this feeling
Like this feeling ain't mine
Mystic familiar
It already knows
I see it waiting for me to explode
I rose up
Tired in my flesh
Getting old now
I'm so lucky
Yet I forget I'm still hungry
For the future

what is that beautiful chord progression around 1:25 ?
Look it in Chordify
you should look into blackMIDIs if you like that, not the band the genre
Matthew Miller It’s the same progression as the rest of the song, but it sounds so beautiful because each chord is arpeggiated across several octaves
I-III-IV-VI
Steve Reich / Mort Garson vibes. Yes, please.
