My father who immigrated to Canada from Haiti in 1970 always told me from a young age about the symbolic day of May 9 and how the world should honor the sacrifice the Red Army and the Russian people made during WW2. Although I have no family who were directly affected by this war, I have made sure to start speaking to my 9 year old son about this just like my father did to me back in the 70's. Every country involved lost many people, Russia, Poland, USA, UK, France, Canada to name a few. Without the Lend Lease Act Russia may not have survived the offense from the Nazis. The USA provided the Russians with many things, Tanks, planes, ammo, artillery, vehicles, food and many other things (look it up). Everyone needs to look into the facts of all of our history. The USA needed our allies to defeat the Nazis, alone none of us may have defeated them. And that’s a scary truth people don’t admit. We called ourselves The Allies for a reason. Anyone that boasts about any one country being the deciding factor of this war has simply not been educated about this subject.

Those soldiers saying hoorah was really something to see and hear. I think people underestimate the national pride Russians have. Yes of course they are soldiers and must do as they are told. But even with the government-controlled media and harsh restrictions, they can't control everything. I would really wish there was some accurate data regarding how many of the Russian citizenry truly support the war in Ukraine. Not with a western bias, or with a level of censorship over the Russian people. I support the people of Ukraine wholeheartedly. I have friends there that I care about, and I pray that the war will end. But as a lover of history, I would really like to see how this will all play out in the end, and how the Russian people will respond to the ending of the war, however or whosoever ends it.
