oh my gosh, so did I, and it had that stained glass window that created this very colorful warm glow in there tht gave it this extra special magic! I have a few additions to make to the closet but I've been happily creating part two of this nostalgic diorama!
Me too, I'm working on some really fun additions that I think you'll love! I may even add to the closet scene too, you know how that goes, always adding. :)
somewhere around here I have a glass dome that sits on a lay Suzan base and its perfect for minis! I think it may be in storage! Always fun to use some of the things in my stash, feels good to free up some space for well more minis! lol
Bacon in a package booty. You gotta love it!!! I also love the concept of the lazy Susan to see two scenes. Looks great! I am a fan of using the items you purchase instead of just keeping all of them in the original packaging. If you can make a fantastic scene, then go for it! It's worth it! 💜
I'm glad you agree with the use-it-not-just-look-at-it idea for collections! Yeah I bought this with the damaged package and had every intention on using it at some point, so happy to get the chance now! The lazy Susan has been great for this, its not that original of a concept but certainly my first time using one for this application and perfect when you want two dioramas but only have the space for one!
Oh it’s so good. You really captured the essence of the closet scene. I loved this movie as a kid. Looking forward to the outdoor side. Amazing job as always!
This is fantastic! I just watched ET the other night having not watched it since my childhood! Such a great movie and you did an amazing job on the closet! I can't wait to see what you do with the other side! ❤
This is so fun! I actually still have my ET from the 80s and you have the same one. It's the toy with the neck that goes up and down with the "bacon butt." I put mine in a little bar scene holding a tiny buck knife I found at a thrift store. I can't wait to see the next episode!
That sounds like the perfect E.T. bar scene! 😂 I love that! I can't even remember now where I found most of these over the years. Probably garage sales and antique shops!
Thank you, thank you! Oh how I have loved making this diorama! Ive pretty much been working on it every night after work! Hoping to have it done for this weekend!
ET and the Color Purple are my all-time favorite movies. I remember going to the cinema to see the movie the weekend it opened and every seat in the theater was full. Love your diorama. 😊❤👽
I also loved the color purple as a child..very odd because it's such a deep movie, but I was very interested in it. There was also around the same time a Barbara Streisand movie called Yentl. It was about women being oppressed and unable to go to school, for some reason I could not get enough of that movie, also very deep...maybe I'm an old soul but also a child in an adult body at the same time! lmao!!!
@WhitneyLaBrie Well, I'm old enough to be your mother. haha I read the book The Color Purple first and was so happy when it was made into a movie. I remember Yentil, too. A very good movie with a message. Female power.😊💪
What an enchanting little diorama. ET was more than just one of Spielberg’s latest films,it was an iconic cultural phenomenon,it introduced the word ‘extraterrestrial’ to the cultural lexicon, and think about it,this film was SUCH a big deal that it was in theaters for an entire year!!! You never see that happen nowadays! I was 11 years old when this film was out,I must’ve seen it 10 times at the San Jacinto mall theatre!!
I was obsessed with this movie when it came out and I never looked to the sky in the same way after. I love how the movie was shot often with a low view to give the audience the feeling of being small or a kids perception, something of course I didn't pick up on till much later since that WAS the view I was actually having as a kid! If I could go back in time, I would have probably gone into the movie business on the production side of things, set design or something like that. Feels like it would have been so fun and creative!
Very well said,Whitney. I have an old friend from Boston, back in the early 90’s,he went on do do set designs, and he even did set designs for the Underdog movie! Not a great movie, but the set designs were! Joe Barrillaro! I’ve lost touch with him,but he is a crazy good talent!
ET one of my favorite 80s movies! I saw it so many times! When I couldn't get a friend to go with me I went by myself. I loved every character, every scene. You nailed the closet of course, I totally love it! What? How did I miss a Mac n Cheese ET?!?! Love the flying Elliot, glad you freed him from the old packaging 🥰✨
Isnt that Mac N Cheese ET so cute! You can get one on ebay in the package for like $15. I almost bought one myself but then who needs two ET Mac n cheese dolls! lol
How cute. I have such fond (and thankful) memories of seeing the movie at the theater when it first came out with my family (a rare treat back then) and I was so impressed by the base booms at the end.... only to find out that there was actually a bad storm, tornado and all, raging outside at the time. There was only building damage outside (no injuries), but it was definitely an experience I won't forget. I love the lazy-susan/2 sided idea and can't wait to see the other side.
So I had an oddly similar experience in a movie theatre! when the very first Mission Impossible came out I was still living in Texas and it was during storm season. If you haven seen the movie, there is a tense scene where Tom Cruise is hanging from the ceiling and he is about to steal a top secret disc...just as he went to grab it, the screen went black and there was this awful scary sound like a train hitting the building and at first we all thought it was part of the movie, but then the lights came on and an attendant came in and told us that the movie theatre had been hit by a tornado! It was wild! Many cars were tossed, luckily we had parked behind the theatre! But geez...I never saw the ending of the movie, lol
I just watched your 2 ET videos out of order! Haha! I’m always so amazed at the # and type of movie details you notice and incorporate into your builds. I am NOT a detail-noticer at all regarding movies! But … you’re inspiring to look for them as I watch movies! Another fabulous creation! Thanks again! ❤Kathleen
I'm not sure if I told you, but years ago I was in the furniture business and part of my job was to help "mom and pop" furniture stores create beautiful furniture vignettes for their stores. So I worked with many interior designers and it was during that time that I really learned a lot about design and detail. It really helps to have that when working in miniatures, on the other hand I often now get very distracted by the background of movies and forget to pay attention to what is actually happening in the movie! lol
@what an interesting job! I always fantasized about working as a window display artist. In college, I worked at the local Hallmark store and had such a great time doing those small window displays and merchandizing in the store itself. I watched an sa zing program many years ago - of course I’ve long forgotten it’s title or where I viewed it - but it was about people who do Macy’s windows, Harrod’s windows, etc. Be still my heart!! I think this is part of my love with dollhouses, room boxes, etc - 💙💙. My only issue is lack of space - or I’d have hundreds more! LOL!
Amazing as ever Whitney... I mean Elliot! I remember going to see this movie in the theatres with my big sister as a kid. But you really captured it in this diorama.
I have had several people mention remembering seeing this movie in the theatre but for the life of me I can not remember if I saw it in the movie theatre or on VHS! Sometimes I remember exactly where I saw movies, like I know I saw Ghostbusters in a drive in movie with my parents and my little sister, I even remember eating a giant pickle! lol Maybe I was just so enthralled with ET that I couldn't have cared less about my surroundings! Such a fun movie and great memories.
@WhitneyLaBrie that's the amazing thing about some movies, they draw you in so completely that your surroundings don't even exist anymore, only the all encompassing movie.
You are amazing! You have such a good eye and such attention to detail! I never noticed the things that you noticed and remembered from this movie or any other movie. And I’ve seen it a lot, my mom loved this movie and she would make me watch it with her every year. I actually gasped when you Opened up the ETA in his package😂 Also I completely lost track of time and did not realize that you were going to cut this into two parts so I am eagerly looking forward to the next one!
I have to admit that I gasped a little too when I opened it but the package had a really nice size hole in the bottom and so dirt was getting inside anyway and so that made me feel a little better just knowing I could clean it! lol..in a previous life I worked for a furniture company and I huge part of my job was to help stores plan the vignettes that the furniture sat in, that design element is what caused my eye to start paying so much attention to the backgrounds of movies, how they were decorated and looking for the details! When this movie came out I was much closer to Drew Barrymore's age and I remember I thought Elliot was so cute!
Omg I never knew there were so many glues in the world! My DreamBox has an entire shelf full and I need more room. It’s wild! I sent you a message via eBay fyi
oh I know! My favorite glue is called The Ultimate and I talk about it all the time! It's so great and you can use it on just about anything! as far as eBay is concerned are you larsonrpv?

I'm glad you like it! I'm really excited to see how the outdoor scene comes together, I'm working on it today actually!

me too as you know! I wanted to make an E.T. mini scene for a while so this was really fun for me! I'm working on the outdoor part now!
@WhitneyLaBrie Yayyy!! Lol I bet it's great!!
I was pregnant with my daughter when the ET movie came out thanks for let us all relive our love for ET
Isn't it amazing how a movie can bring us back so quickly to a moment in time!
So cute !! Can't wait to see the other side.
I'm working on it right now! It's in the beginning stage or as I call it, the ugly stage! lol
Love it. Looking forward to the next video.
Me too, I'm working on some really fun additions that I think you'll love! I may even add to the closet scene too, you know how that goes, always adding. :)
