      i know hes not elite powelifter, but if you compare it with talents like john haack / jamal who are in 1000kg club with 90-100kg body weight hafthor is just one of the many guys who compete, but noone even notice, well everyone does, because hafthor is big name, but there are guys who holded world record in total, but nobody knows them, like Petr Petráš from Czech Republic who did 1160kg total, but sadly almost nobody knows that he even exists

    I think he'd have gotten 1000 if he wasn't sick just two days before. He lost 5kg of bodyweight over those two days. That's massively impactful. I recently lost 11kg of bodyweight myself due to an illness, and looked like a husk of my former self. I've since gained it back, but that took months. I can imagine it made all the difference.
    Edit: And as said in the comments, Thor didn't even accept this as an excuse when it was Kelsey mentioning it, not himself. What a legendary mindset. That's why he's the best.

      Yeah, getting sick or ill at that point and losing weight make a lot of difference, i remember in the DL championships of 2021 Pavlo got sick and loss weight and got greatly affected by it

      I agree with you. The head referee is a friend of his who has trained with him multiple times.
      doesnt feel like a true competition when it's held at your gym and 1 or 2 of the 3 judges are your friends.

      @@alexisvnc I mean lots of these power lifters are friends with organizers and judges. Eddie Hall is friends with Colin Bryce. Martins Licis is friends with Magnus Ver Magnusson. Nick Best is friends with Brian Shaw. Does that mean we can't trust any of them? Are the organizers and judges not allowed to have friends in the same industry?

      @@alexisvnc He (Thor) used Magnus to officiate 501 kg because he didn't have to travel far and he is one of the most reputable strongman competition judges in the world currently. The strongest man of the 1990s.

    Just crazy how strong he still is after losing all that weight. I lost around the same amount of weight and it is humbling. When it comes to Thor I never believe anything is impossible, if he truly wants to do something I fully expect him to succeed.

      @C you can take all the PEDS you want, and you would never get half as strong as him.. heck i know guys who took PEDS for yeeeears, but cant lift even close to what he can.. yes they ALL do PEDS, but as the E stands for, its only enhancing.. without the right diet, sleep, sups, training and genetics, you wont ever come close.
      There is a reason there is a nr 1. and a nr. blah, in strongman.. but they all do PEDS..

    not bad at all for 6 weeks prep. He was on his boxing voyage for a while, I honestly am impressed with the amount of strength he retained during that time. Good Job

    I agree with the attempt selection adjustment. He looked like 390 squat would have been there, 212.5 bench would have been there, and 397.5 would have been a grinder of a deadlift. Maybe he will try again this summer or late spring.

    Very impressive. One of the strongest humans alive, but it just goes to show how insane the sport has gotten when the John Haacks of the world totaling over 1000kg consistently at low BW's. Out totally a WSM at half the BW. Haack is the GOAT of GOATs. Can't wait to see what Thor can put up next

    Apart from being sick before the comp, here what we can see is a not so good planing of Thor's lifts, maybe he wouldn't have hit the 1000, but he definitely could 've grasped it with a 990-995 total. Experience will give him the vision yo avoid that kind of errors.

    To the speaker, if you say kilogram as an adjective you don't need the 's', but if you say it as a noun 'a bench of 220 kilogram's'' you do need the 's'. You rarely need the 's' if you say 'kilo'.

    100% agree that he could hit 1000kg with better attempt selection. This meet i believe without a doubt he could have hit 390/210/400, choosing 400 for his 3rd squat was the only mistake but was a reasonable decision at the time considering how good his squats looked. Sometimes playing it safe can pay off.

      Well John Haack has a lot less range to move the weight, and he's hyper-specialized in those three movements. Thor comes out of boxing, gains a bit of weight, preps for 6 wks, and totals 970 kg while missing lifts lol.

      Its Thor's 2nd meet ever both with only 6 weeks preps and no other specific training. He has lifted very little of naything in over 2 years and is getting used to a 60kg smaller body.
      John has literally done 100's of meets and is a full time powerlifter and his weight flucates 20lbs max.

    Did he always have a 'poor' bench? It seems every other big powerlifter that competes with/against him will have a better bench than him. Is it just due to his size and reach because he is absolutely massive when compared to ever other powerlifter at that level

      @@nk0723 Thor won't stand a chance guy was 460 pounds did 500 kg dead....guy weighing 235 pounds just beat that. Always been overrated imo, 460 pounds barely benches 550 at his best. He won't break any records , top super heavy powerlifters will smoke him bc they use bodyweight as a scale too. His DOT score would NEVER be anywhere near the top guys. Sorry.

      @@Jackedaniels93 He is a pro Powerlifter and only does 3 lifts. Hafthor is not a pro Powerlifter, but a pro Strongman and does more than 100+ different lifts and events. There is no comparison.
      It's like him doing a Strongman competition and you compare him to Hafthor Julius Bjornsson. 🤦🏻‍♂️

      @@peterpapadeas6475 fan or no fan, Hall performed under competition conditions and still is the only man to lift 500K under competition conditions. You can claim Thor had 10 more kilograms all you want in his tank but he did nothing to demonstrate that. You’re correct Eddie went down twice but certainly those were sloppy knock downs and they weren’t knee benders they were more like half shoves. No one is claiming half Thor did not win the fight but for a guy 5 inches taller and that much bigger he couldn’t do much more than went on points. I don’t buy his left is legitimate neither do many people. He’s always been jealous of Eddie always been resentful of Eddie’s charisma and Eddie’s popularity the guy is a mound of dirt and boring as wall paint and he simply can’t get over that.

      Thor trained for about 6-8 weeks for this lift and hadn't done any big lifts for about 2 1/2 years whereas the ones who are lighter are probably doing nothing but powerlifting
