I love all of their songs, but I honestly had to hear a lot of them multiple times. But after that you really get how good they are. Also you have to listen to the instrumental of this, it's so cool!

After much thought and watching the music video dozens of times, these are my theories and ideas for what I suspect is the story with this comeback: Jiu runs a carnival and circus resort hotel. She is a mystical puppeteer and controls a group of five dolls to do her bidding around the resort. My guess is that she is after Gahyeon who is still human and not a doll yet. Then at the end, Jiu captures her and makes her a doll like the others. It's important to note that Gahyeon is very front and center in this video and the main character of the story, followed by Jiu. Gahyeon is also the only one to really make distinct facial expression changes, perhaps signifying her awareness to the audience or representing that she's the only one still human amongst the dolls. It has been said that the theme and story is heavily inspired by Jordan Peele's "Us" so perhaps the theme of doppelgangers has something to do with it too. I have actually seen the film "Us" and I can see many references to it in the video, even in the choreography. I think the scene where Handong is standing alone with a pink skirt and literally sees her own feet being pulled away under a curtain could be representative of her being replaced by a doll or doppelganger and that's who is really standing there and not the real Handong. If you pay attention, you'll see that the girls at the beginning of the video all have different outfits than those at the end of the video. This could imply that they have been replaced by their doppelgangers or vice versa. It's hard to say which version of the girls are the real ones versus their doppelgangers, though it's quite often showcased how there are two of each of them in multiple scenes. Jiu also has a large hourglass that she flips at the start of the song. At the end of the song, the hourglass sand stops and so do the dolls. She gives us a smirk, and then we hear a laugh. I think that's how she controls them. When it's flipped and the sand is moving, the dolls can be active. Power over time and the ability to puppet people seems to be Jiu's powers or capabilities to some degree or she has relics that help her, like the hourglass. It's possible that Jiu needs to capture humans and then do something to make them into dolls - like feeding them a cursed apple? - or she creates dolls that she can control in their likeness by killing their normal form and then putting their soul into the doll, thus making a fake version or doppelganger of them that she can use for her bidding. So Jiu lures in unsuspecting guests to her carnival and circus resort hotel and then snatches them away for herself. One of the final scenes where Gahyeon is on the throne and Jiu caresses her face is important. Gahyeon's line during this moment is "Because I love you". As she says that line, her facial expression changes from happy to more trance-like, which indicates that she may have fallen under Jiu's power and has become her doll. There's a double-meaning here too because of Gahyeon's line. She loves Jiu, but that love may be forced or coerced by Jiu herself because of her power to turn people into dolls and have them do her bidding. Gahyeon has no choice but to love Jiu because Jiu is forcing her to do so as her new doll that has been added to the collection. This all ties back into the song's theme of having a very obsessive and dangerous love for someone else to the point of stalking and controlling them. What's even more interesting is that love, by definition, must be freely given. You cannot force love otherwise it's not love at all. Thus, Jiu seems to be seeking for love, but can't find it, so she becomes evil and obsessive over creating a fake collection of friends that will always "love" her. I also recently came to the understanding that "Special Albums", at least, in Dreamcatcher's case, are one-offs and stand-alone stories that are not connected to another nor will they be continued. So, think of this like their song "Deja Vu", which only had one video and a concise story all within the video itself and not continued or expanded upon in any other videos or songs. It's a shame if that is truly the case with this song and video, since this concept and theme are so strong and incredibly interesting. Either way, Dreamcatcher killed it. Lastly, the capital "BE" in "BEcause" supposedly represents a Chinese character that sounds like "bei' which means "sadness" or "negative love".
Oooo! I like this theory! It seems to fit well in my eyes. I was wondering if perhaps the lace they have on their faces has some meaning, but I’m not sure, since not everyone has it. I too thought a lot about the hourglass. I was thinking it signified the timeframe Jiu’s character was working with. Something like Gahyeon’s character has to be caught before the sand runs out, or she can’t be turned. I like your theory on this though, and my initial thought could possibly fit into that.
I really like this theory. I would love if they continued this storyline as it’s the right balance of creepy, compelling and fun. A lot of focus is on Gahyeon obviously but Jiu really is fantastic in this. She’s subtle but so powerful. She really sells the concept.
I think Sua’s bridge singing “I don't wanna BE” means she doesn’t wanna be sad which is like Jiu wanting to force ppl to love her so she won’t be sad. I feel like Jiu knows what she’s going isn’t right but she wipes away the guilt and eats the apple from her evil psyche as shown by Sua.
I think that this is a bit of a 'special' rather than their usual themed collections. An almost playful mini album to celebrate their break out to a more successful group. A summer gift to us fans. I don't know, but I do know I love it.

The song really surprised me too! It feels like an older Dreamcatcher song, like pre-Deja Vu era? Even the MV reminds me of Chase Me. It still feels fresh to me though because of the line distribution; I love that Sua and Handong's low tones come up a lot in the song, it makes it feel so haunting. It's a shame that more of the choreo doesn't appear in the MV because I really like it! I'm looking forward to a dance MV version. Oh and happy birthday to your grandma :)
I feel like a comeback between storylines is a good opportunity for them to do something different like this. And it gives us a break from their usual hard concept, which just makes us look forward to the next hard concept. I think they still have the haughty badass attitude of Dreamcatcher and the song still goes hard with rock and distortion at times. I think I can see what DCC was going for and I think they succeeded.
Yeah it's nice to see that they took this special album as a time to push the vocals of Gahyeon, JiU and Handong, not to say they dont normally, it's just nice to see them, especially Gahyeon get so many lines.
It’s been said they performed early because the music shows have been canceled due to the Olympics. So them deciding to perform was to make sure they are eligible for awards. Weki Meki did the same thing if I’m not mistaken. Also, DC has said numerous times this is a “special holiday summertime album” almost like they want to impress they aren’t changing anything. Rather this is their version of a summer song…. lol. DC summer song is dark. To me it’s like Red Sun and Fly High had a baby and that child is angry 😡 lol. It’s still very them. Guitars are there…haunting vocals, creepy concept. I’m not disappointed. I feel like they’re showing how they can do many different styles yet still maintain that DreamCatcher Aesthetic.

Hey, our beloved ms. president! 😍 I do wonder what the lyrics mean, I've seen the part before ocean view translated as "I turn the sky blue" and as "Your face is blue with fright". Does blue have a special meaning in Korean? I've also read the MV is inspired by the movie Us, with creepy doppelgangers... I'm definitely gonna watch it!
Considering that in the chorus they say that “even your breath is forever mine”, I think that the person’s face turning blue means they’re suffocating, but that is very grim
Dami said in a vlive that it was meant to convey the blue color on someone's face when suffocating. The singer is presumably commenting on this while suffocating who they are singing to, which...well, that's disturbing, but that's what Dreamcatcher was going for.
The Doll-like movements really fit this song, as it's inspired from the movie US. You can tell this from the beginning when Gahyeon escapes, therefore we know she's Jiu's shadow trying to escape when she tries to choke her. But the ending is where we really figure out who is the shadow. Also, the reasons BE is capitalized is because in Hanja it means sadness, or suffering, so my cause of sadness it you, which makes the chorus so ironic.
Theory time: JiU collects girls for an obsession she has and her latest obsession was Siyeon. Their other selves run the carnival in a cycle. If the hourglass runs out, they switch out. While their other selves are upstairs in the lobby, tending to the tenants of the hotel, their other selves are downstairs in the tunnels, where they obsess and worship over Siyeon. But they needed fresh meat. Jiu needed fresh meat. So she went for Gahyeon as Siyeon was getting unstable. So in the end, Gahyeon is in the throne, and Siyeon goes to the line.
For me, the main storyline more like Jiu trying to kidnap Gahyeon for her collection in the tunnel... meanwhile, the mv also shows how each girls got kidnapped in the past... and then get back to Gahyeon trying to run away from Jiu... but at the end, Gahyeon didn't make it and became a new doll of Jiu's collection. :(( At the end, all the girls were in the reception lobby (maybe their clones/Jiu's puppets) while their real selves were chained soulless under the tunnel. And back to the beginning, where all the girls were working/acting like hotel staff and guest as waiting for a new prey...

It's so good to see our president react! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. One commenter noted that if you look at "BE" as a Chinese written character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". That commenter is Jad Hamizan and he deserves all the credit for noticing that. The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

Gahyeon has no choice but to love Jiu because Jiu is forcing her to do so as her new doll that has been added to the collection. This all ties back into the song's theme of having a very obsessive and dangerous love for someone else to the point of stalking and controlling them. What's even more interesting is that love, by definition, must be freely given. You cannot force love otherwise it's not love at all. Thus, Jiu seems to be seeking for love, but can't find it, so she becomes evil and obsessive over creating a fake collection of friends that will always "love" her.
I also recently came to the understanding that "Special Albums", at least, in Dreamcatcher's case, are one-offs and stand-alone stories that are not connected to another nor will they be continued. So, think of this like their song "Deja Vu", which only had one video and a concise story all within the video itself and not continued or expanded upon in any other videos or songs. It's a shame if that is truly the case with this song and video, since this concept and theme are so strong and incredibly interesting. Either way, Dreamcatcher killed it. Lastly, the capital "BE" in "BEcause" supposedly represents a Chinese character that sounds like "bei' which means "sadness" or "negative love".
Oooo! I like this theory! It seems to fit well in my eyes. I was wondering if perhaps the lace they have on their faces has some meaning, but I’m not sure, since not everyone has it.
I too thought a lot about the hourglass. I was thinking it signified the timeframe Jiu’s character was working with. Something like Gahyeon’s character has to be caught before the sand runs out, or she can’t be turned. I like your theory on this though, and my initial thought could possibly fit into that.
I really like this theory. I would love if they continued this storyline as it’s the right balance of creepy, compelling and fun.
A lot of focus is on Gahyeon obviously but Jiu really is fantastic in this. She’s subtle but so powerful. She really sells the concept.
I think Sua’s bridge singing “I don't wanna BE” means she doesn’t wanna be sad which is like Jiu wanting to force ppl to love her so she won’t be sad. I feel like Jiu knows what she’s going isn’t right but she wipes away the guilt and eats the apple from her evil psyche as shown by Sua.

I think that this is a bit of a 'special' rather than their usual themed collections. An almost playful mini album to celebrate their break out to a more successful group. A summer gift to us fans. I don't know, but I do know I love it.

The song really surprised me too! It feels like an older Dreamcatcher song, like pre-Deja Vu era? Even the MV reminds me of Chase Me. It still feels fresh to me though because of the line distribution; I love that Sua and Handong's low tones come up a lot in the song, it makes it feel so haunting. It's a shame that more of the choreo doesn't appear in the MV because I really like it! I'm looking forward to a dance MV version. Oh and happy birthday to your grandma :)

Dreamcatcher's range is just mind-blowing. they can do anything from vocals, to the coreo, to concepts. truly one of the most unique group in kpop
I feel like a comeback between storylines is a good opportunity for them to do something different like this. And it gives us a break from their usual hard concept, which just makes us look forward to the next hard concept. I think they still have the haughty badass attitude of Dreamcatcher and the song still goes hard with rock and distortion at times. I think I can see what DCC was going for and I think they succeeded.

It’s been said they performed early because the music shows have been canceled due to the Olympics. So them deciding to perform was to make sure they are eligible for awards. Weki Meki did the same thing if I’m not mistaken. Also, DC has said numerous times this is a “special holiday summertime album” almost like they want to impress they aren’t changing anything. Rather this is their version of a summer song…. lol. DC summer song is dark. To me it’s like Red Sun and Fly High had a baby and that child is angry 😡 lol. It’s still very them. Guitars are there…haunting vocals, creepy concept. I’m not disappointed. I feel like they’re showing how they can do many different styles yet still maintain that DreamCatcher Aesthetic.

I do wonder what the lyrics mean, I've seen the part before ocean view translated as "I turn the sky blue" and as "Your face is blue with fright". Does blue have a special meaning in Korean?

Dami said in a vlive that it was meant to convey the blue color on someone's face when suffocating. The singer is presumably commenting on this while suffocating who they are singing to, which...well, that's disturbing, but that's what Dreamcatcher was going for.

The Doll-like movements really fit this song, as it's inspired from the movie US. You can tell this from the beginning when Gahyeon escapes, therefore we know she's Jiu's shadow trying to escape when she tries to choke her. But the ending is where we really figure out who is the shadow.
Also, the reasons BE is capitalized is because in Hanja it means sadness, or suffering, so my cause of sadness it you, which makes the chorus so ironic.

Theory time: JiU collects girls for an obsession she has and her latest obsession was Siyeon. Their other selves run the carnival in a cycle. If the hourglass runs out, they switch out. While their other selves are upstairs in the lobby, tending to the tenants of the hotel, their other selves are downstairs in the tunnels, where they obsess and worship over Siyeon. But they needed fresh meat. Jiu needed fresh meat. So she went for Gahyeon as Siyeon was getting unstable. So in the end, Gahyeon is in the throne, and Siyeon goes to the line.

For me, the main storyline more like Jiu trying to kidnap Gahyeon for her collection in the tunnel... meanwhile, the mv also shows how each girls got kidnapped in the past... and then get back to Gahyeon trying to run away from Jiu... but at the end, Gahyeon didn't make it and became a new doll of Jiu's collection. :((
At the end, all the girls were in the reception lobby (maybe their clones/Jiu's puppets) while their real selves were chained soulless under the tunnel. And back to the beginning, where all the girls were working/acting like hotel staff and guest as waiting for a new prey...

It's so good to see our president react! Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. One commenter noted that if you look at "BE" as a Chinese written character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". That commenter is Jad Hamizan and he deserves all the credit for noticing that.
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
