  • At around 10.15pm, Fire & Rescue NSW received eighty-two calls to their triple zero emergency line reporting a large home on fire in Hastings Parade at North Bondi.
The first arriving fire station from Bondi called in a "Red Message" upgrading the incident to a 2nd alarm structure fire. Flames were seen leaping from the roof and rear of the property.
Crews quickly established a working area and sourced water for the fire-fighting operations.
Fire fighters geared up in breathing apparatus and began the first sweep of search and rescue.
Residents confirmed that everyone had safely evacuated and efforts were directed towards fire control.
The flames and heat were so intense, that it set one adjoining and one neighbouring property alight.
Over a hundred residents lined the surrounding streets watching the large blaze take hold.
The fire could be seen across a number of suburbs in Sydney's east.
Fire crews set up two aerial appliances in Hastings Parade and Brighton Boulevarde forcing the closure of both roads.
Police also closed Military Rd during the incident.
Fire crews upgraded the incident to a 4th alarm structure fire, totalling over 40 fire-fighters and supervisors.
There were reports that a man had attempted to rescue the residents from the first home, but fell through the garage roof in the process.
All residents escaped injury, and were comforted by a police chaplain, paramedics and fire crews.
A semi-detached house was severely damaged by smoke, heat and fire, whilst the two neighbouring properties were partially damaged by smoke and fire.
A garden area and shed were completely destroyed.
The owner of the home returned to see the rest of his family safe and well, and was reunited with his beloved pets.
Police are investigating the cause of the blaze with the support of the NSW Fire & Rescue investigation unit.
Hastings Parade is open to traffic, however fire crews will remain on scene during the day.

I was there after the first arriving crews.. Was nearby when the incident occurred. It is rare to be able to capture the crews at work in the early stages.
