- LONG ENGINE RUN UP! LASER Airlines MD-81, the only airline operating MD-81's in scheduled passenger flights. Flight Onboard YV469T, a 1993 MD-81 that operated with Japan Air Lines until 2009. It is powered by two Pratt&Whitney JT8D-217C's.
Great engines, each time a Delta MD80 flies over our house, I know what it is. Have to appreciate it while you can. About 8 years ago the 727 flights stopped and now we'll see the last of the JT8D's once the MD80's are retired.
+eisenbahn it sounds like a hairdryer
luckily, that won't happen for a long while...
Delta just retired all their MD-80's and MD-90's. Aviation enthusiasts have to go to Venezuela or somehow get a charter on World Atlantic Airlines before they retire them.
@@thecaynuck4694 Truly a sad time
Hey, I know that plane! My company does the heavy maint on Laser's fleet. Just finished a -82 for them, YV2927 i think. Have a couple more to come too... retired American Airline ones. Cool Vid!
Best sound in the world next to 'dinner is ready'.
Seriously, this is a really cool video and the sound is incredible. Thank you for posting!
Are engine run ups like that normal prior to takeoff? I know on many aircraft, a run up is standard procedure however, I have never flown on an airliner where they do a complete engine run up on the runway prior to takeoff power.
Sometimes it’s done for a shorter runway.
Sometimes it’s for dislodging possible ice on the aircraft
GE-90 and the JT8D. Hard to tell which one is more powerful.
Yup, in brunswick. Yea, both of those aircraft are here. 461AA is currently being worked on, majority of the maint. is done, still will need interior and exterior painted Laser colors. These American Airlines planes have been in great mech shape! Very few discrepancies for a C check! I hear they are getting rid of their DC9-30s, YV231T, 332T, 331T... Fine with me, they require alot of work everytime they come here!
Haha. Thanks for the FAQ.Even the thrust is very different but the sound.....both are very powerful
Love the mad dog 80
Very nice awesome sound 👍
I like plane
Was this shot taken from Honolulu International Airport Oahu Hawaii??
No, it's from Maiquetia Airport, in Caracas, Venezuela

The MD-80 series did not use the JT8D-17.
Ace pilot G do you mean -217

They wanted to make sure the engines wouldn’t shit out under maximum power - what a bunch of junk.
Do your homework before talking
