I’ve been searching all over RUclips for this video! Thanks so much 😊
exactly what i needed, thanks! subbed!
Super helpful, thanks.
Thanks for sharing man.
Thank you so much for this!!
I appreciate this video, I do wish it for more to the point for feedback. Just getting to the meat of what is needed.
Thank you so much for sharing this video. I’m really struggling with these very issues. I can’t wait to go and change my set up now. Thanks again 👍
Great to hear! Thanks for checking it out.
good video !
This video is gold! Helped a lot :)
Awesome. Thanks for checking it out.
Ty
Really nice setup, good editing, thorough and nice tour! I'll definitely steal some of your setup for myself :D
Thanks! Please do haha
Full-on behind the scenes! Thanks for sharing, Jon. I'm surprised at how many additional attachments you had to get onto the end of the tripod arm! I have a shelf above my Mac, and I just duct tape an old tripod there for my OH shots. It's pretty MacGyver!
Haha. Thanks for watching Tom!! Yeah I think it’s silly too. Part of it is my space. If I could have attached the arm to the back of the desk, that would have helped, but then I’d need my desk a foot or so away from the wall. My office is fairly small, so I have to try and blend what looks good, but is functional for real use haha. I’m also lazy, so I like really repeatable easy to setup rigs. Part of why I made this though is to hear of people have done it better. I don’t mind spending some money. I don’t want my camera to fall on my iPad. That could be an expensive fix!!
very helpful, you are appreciated, i ordered 2 products, but your hdmi cable link needs updating
Thanks. Subbed
Thanks! I’ve been slacking on new content, but I’ll add some eventually!
Yes I did find this interesting. My Kindle Fire 10 plus just blipped on me - I now have ghosting on the screen making it hard to see things on screen. So I'm looking for things (especially some kind of tablet to replace it) for Top Down filming as I do art. (Mixed media and gel printing)
And I have a stream set to go on Monday, the day after tomorrow.
I've tested with my filming partner in the USA (I'm in the UK) and the ghosting doesn't appear in the stream. But it's still hard for me to see the screen myself to control things.
I also would LOVE to get rid of echo without having to wear a headset.
The kindle has microphone and speakers too close together which gives echo.
I film with my friend in the USA and she can hear echo if I don't use the headset. Sigh.
I've had similar problems to you trying to get a good top down view and keeping the camera/kindle away from where my head can knock it out of position etc.
I currently use a floor standing tripod. It has a nice gooseneck but I'm not keen on the bit that grips the kindle. It's not easy to position well.
But I do like that I can tilt the camera to show something to left or right of the main work area.
I do like your nice strong looking bar. (I've had similar problems connecting the camera so you aren't filming upside down!!)
Hi Jon, great great great video. Thank you! I've been searching the internet for ages in trying to figure out a good setup, especially lighting is a pain in the butt sometimes. My iPad seems to have fluctuating light which makes filming it pretty annoying at times. I tried filming with my Sony A6500 but I'm a bit stuck there, so far I had the best results with my iPhone and the Filmic Pro app. I will give it another go, though, your setup seems to work beautifully! So keep up the good work, Thank you once again!
Hey! Thanks for checking out the video. Have you looked at your iPad Settings? If not, go to Settings > Display & Brightness and then turn off automatic and maybe even turn off True Tone. That might help solve your issue. Your iPad might be trying to auto correct the brightness from shadows created by your hand or arm.
@@CrusoeDesignCo HI Jon, I did that right when I opened the box with the iPad for the first time. Automated stuff like that kinda makes me crazy ;-) But unfortunately to no avail. Anyway, I'm sure to try out your settings. Definitely. It might be something with the brightness or the refresh rate, I read. Thanks!
@@ElszyRocks yeah it could be. I use the 180 rule for shutter and fps, but I did get banding in some of my talking head videos and recently experimented with a slightly lower shutter speed and it worked great!
lots of goo d info about hardware but what to use for what was confusing in trying to make a decision on what to buy
Hey loved this! I'm an ipad artist and would like to start doing tutorials. I also love the plain black surface and use an iphone above it to capture video, but I keep getting reflections of the phone etc on the ipad screen, and you can see me as well. What woud you recommend to get rif of the reflections? An ipad matte screen cover, or avoid natural light entirely? Any pointers would be amazing, thanks!
I haven’t experimented with this enough yet. But I saw a video where MKBHD (RUclipsr if you don’t know him) uses a black piece of something like cardboard with a small hole cutout. That’s where the camera looks through. So you’d have to rig that up below the camera somehow. That’ll cut down the reflection a lot.
Great tutorial, thank you so much! I was thinking of a buying a tripod with a ring light on it to film overhead, do you think that would create weird reflections on my ipad screen? I have a matte protector already, maybe that helps
I’m not sure to be honest. Maybe if you can buy a dimmable ring light that might be best. Then you can turn it down if it reflects too much.
Very nice video. What frame rate do you shoot in for the iPad filming
I always shoot 24fps unless I’m filming sports.
Hey, Jon. May I ask what lens you are using? I’m filming on a A6300 and it’s so overexposed and looks gloomy. I’m using a 30mm sigma.
I’ll have to look when I’m home. Just the stock Sony lens that came with my a6400.
How did you adjust the camera setting so it can capture screen and hand without over expose.thank you
I don’t remember the settings at the moment. But I do know I turned down my iPads brightness a lot. So try doing that first.
I see, i'll try it out. Thank you for reply :)
What kind of camera are you using?
Sony a6400!
I would never attach a camera or its boom arm on the surface I want to work on, as it will always introduce camera shake.
Other than that I like your setup!
I haven’t had any issues as my table is very solid. But that’s a good point if it isn’t sturdy.
But the screen recording quality is not good when u edit it
What camera do you use?
Hey! Sony a6400
Thank you! Best wishes for a successful channel!
