Qash 7/23/24. 5 m under saddle

Awful weather has really slow work time but I guess it’s like winter elsewhere the heavy rains and lightning I won’t ride in the footing becomes precarious and after all what’s the rush. This time stalled and with less work has created an at times explosive 4 year old on the line showing me his incredible athleticism. I always enjoy these moments as they show me how the horse feels and how he can do these things.
After a few dry days we had decent footing and working through the young horse spooky desires has been entertaining. Today we resembled a team and the camera stayed with us better.
It’s important to note my focus is always relaxed work and spooky prevents that do here you can see how the work changed his conversation he ended very nicely. He reminded me in watching to do in hand work tomorrow to catch that left hind better. He hasn’t had an in hand session in a while.
I’ve been fiddling with different bridles and bits since his teeth were done and he is settled more about it. Still working that out his head is oddly sized.
I experimented with the instructions on the halt in the aids from Nuno’s book I’ve been reading. He recommends halting both aids gently active then keeping the hand aid but increasing slightly the leg to move up a gear and after a few strides release the hand versus release the hand as soon as you want to go up a gear. It has a fun effect and is making me think hard during these transitions. As we all know accurate transitions create a great horse.
Always mindful tgat if I feel my neck straining I’m being pulled on or leaned on on way or another. Working through that without force and not by hanging on the lean is a real effort. By placing the reins in one hand I’ve been over the years able to really correct it. It’s always in the rear end it must be fixed. You’ll see the tapping of the hind sorts it out. Never the hanging on the right holding your position against the leaning horse will you resolve leaning or pulling.
