My Nan has my fish because my mum didn’t have room for the tank 6 years ago keep in mind he was 2 when he went to my nan’s, He’s perfectly healthy fish but my mum EVER since he went to my nan’s when he was 2, has always said, I say look at my fish he’s happy and she says “oh yeah he’ll die soon” Like- HE’S 8!!! She frustrates me so much smh. 😡😤Like I love her she’s my mum but oooooh she knows how to bug me!

I had to do this 4 months ago.. I sat and cried in my room for a long time. I had tryed alot of things and fought for 2 weeks to save my Bettas life. I also got advice from everyone who sold Betta fish and it got so bad I had to do the clove oil.
It's bin 2 months and I finally worked up the courage to go and buy another Betta and he's happy and healthy. I do worry over every little thing tho.

Just FYI I don’t know if you know this but someone else might not - dropsy is a symptom, not a disease. It’s caused by something else going wrong that’s causing their organs to shut down. People have reported that Epsom salt baths can help some cases of dropsy, but unless you know what is actually going wrong with them, there’s not really much you can do unfortunately. Swim in peace, Elijah ❤️

My little Betta Hades just passed away while I was preparing the oil mixture for him. I was in the living room and he seemed to have waited until I walked into the bedroom by his tank before passing. This is the second time that has happened to me with my Betta boys over the years. They are all so smart, so unique, with personalities all their own. They are literally the most mistreated fish in the entire pet industry, and have already gone through so much trauma before finding themselves on the shelves of pet stores. I would implore anyone who has the time and willingness to take care of a Betta fish to try and find listings for unwanted fish on sites like Craigslist, who will often give them away for free unless you wish to purchase their tank as well.

Thank you so much for this. Watching the process actually made this easier and i feel less scared. For the first time in my life im old enough to have fish and old enough to medicate them. When i found out my betta was starting to float i did every treatment i could to find for a good month and a half just to get the solution! Epsom salts worked the best and he looked like he was on the road to recovery, but sudenly just yesterday he bloated his way rightback to the top of the tank again.
I plant to keep treating him to try and keep him comfy till the slove oil gets here but gosh its a process full of greif. Thank you for the upload! You have helped us out millions. Im confident the process will be smoother for both of us with your method

Dropsy is organ failure in fish. It can be treated with kanaplex and other similar medicines but it is very hard to catch in time to treat. If you ever have another sick fish and are unsure exactly what it is then come visit me on amino specifically the betta keepers amino I am one of the curators there and one of the betta nurses on our medical team. I am so so sorry you had to do this but just know he is now in a better place. I’m so sorry for your loss 💜💜💜

Thank you for making this video. My betta hadn't been eating for a few days and is very lethargic, and just started pineconing so I'm pretty positive he has dropsy. I've had him for 2 years and he's the first fish I've ever had to consider euthanizing, so I had no idea how to go about doing it humanely. I just don't want him to suffer anymore because he's obviously miserable.
Also this may be a weird time to mention it but I'm pretty sure we're the same person: I'm a vet tech, and army, and have pretty much all of the books on your shelves. Just thought it was a strange coincidence.

Hey girl.. I feel your pain. I have gone through a handful of betta fish myself and for 3 years I stopped. I was so confused as to why I couldn’t keep my bettas alive when I supplied them with a big enough tank, filter, heater, decor. They just wouldn’t last and it would break my heart.
I’ve recently decided to start again, but this time I’m older and I’ve done more research. I’ve realized that it really all comes down to water quality. Cycling aquariums was something too complicated to me and I honestly didn’t bother learning it. I dug up my old fish tanks & I’ve purchased a water test kit. This time I’ll be cycling my 5.5gal tank before actually purchasing a betta. I have only live plants and fluval spectrum terrain to help me with ammonia. I hope one day you too decide to come back to the betta keeping hobby with new hope... Lots of love & Best of luck ❤️

I know he is old and has really slowed down, but I found him on his side, struggling to breathe, can’t eat, can’t swim, and I’m over here bawling my eyes out. But I did exactly as instructed and I’m pretty sure he passed. It makes me think he got the same thing your fish had, and I always clean his tank. I'm so sorry about your beloved betta. I have one too, a male veil tail. He's blue and so I named him Azul. I have loved this little fish for almost 3 years. I don't know what happened but he's not right. He hasn't responded to any of the meds I've given him and now he hardly looks like himself. I was hoping that after meds and aquarium salt that he would come back but he hasn't. I thought I would just "keep him comfortable" with clean water at his favorite temp but he really is suffering and I can't see this anymore. I need to find clove oil asap and then I will be doing this. I never thought I would love a tiny little creature so much but I do. I too cannot think about getting another fish. My heart is completely broken but if I can humanely euthanize him then that will be my last act of love for my beautiful little Azul. Thank you for your help.

Thank you so much for posting the whole process from beginning to end. I’m having to put my beautiful betta Orchid down today. I’ve had him for about 4 years, and betta fish are usually a year old when you get them, so he’s certainly a very elderly fish, and he also has a tumor on his side that’s been there for a year or so. For the past few days, he’s been very lethargic, has just been laying on the bottom of the tank, not wanting to eat, and today when I turned the tank light on, he didn’t even react to it. It sucks to have to put him down, but I don’t want to see him suffer anymore, and this video was the best one I’ve seen on how to safely and humanely euth a fish. ❤️ I’m so sorry for your loss, Elijah was a beautiful fish and he will be dearly missed!!! ❤️❤️❤️

He can’t get to the surface anymore and so I came here to make sure I was going to be doing this right. I hate that you’ve had this experience but am grateful that you’ve documented it for us. Fun (not so fun) fact: I was a tech for 15 years and my personal passion was aftercare/final visit planning. I wanted to ensure pets had a peaceful and dignified end. When I lost my Betta Chrono last year, it broke my heart. I did all I could for him, including vet visits and consulting fish experts, but it was to no avail. After he passed, I had a little plaque made for him with a poem inscribed - "You will be a shooting star in the deep blue sky, and your tail will shine". And today, I am in on the verge of losing two more, Daedalus and Hades. RIP to Klaus and Elijah and all of the other fin babies out there who have passed. You were and still are loved

I tried to save a betta with pretty gnarly fin rot from a store a couple months ago and he was very resilient. I had him for 4 months but he sadly couldn't keep fighting and a few hours after one final treatment he lost the fight to his fin rot and weak swim bladder. He was such a sweet little guy. I named him Zombie. I now have a zombie decoration in my new tank to memorialize him. The death that happened 2 days before his gutted me. She was my first female betta and after having her for about 4 months with no health problems and no jumping ever, I woke up to find her dead next to her tank from jumping out. Absolutely destroyed me. She was such a sweet, spunky character and she should have lived so much longer. :( These both happened just last week.
I also am down to one betta now and he's doing great too.

had to euthanize my platy tonight. Her health had been deteriorating for weeks and i wish i had done something sooner instead of just keeping an eye on her for other symptoms. i ordered meds but the day before they were supposed to arrive she looked so much worse and i was certain that i was gonna wake up to her lifeless body in the morning. didn’t want to risk her dying a slow and agonizing death over night so i made the tough decision to put her out of her misery. It was definitely too late for the meds to have done any good.

I'm so sorry Alyssa. It's shocking and painful to lose a pet. This happened to my blue veil tail, Sushi, on Easter morning. On Saturday morning, the heater broke and the temperature dropped to 66. I immediately replaced the heater with a back-up heater and moved his tank to the bathroom where it was warmer. However, he stopped eating. He had fin rot and the Melafix didn't work for him like it did with my red veil tail Betta boy, Peixe. I thought he had swim bladder (Peixe recovered from his bout of swim bladder). The back-up heater broke, and it was too late to buy another one. The poor thing was gasping for air non-stop. Early Easter morning, I saw Sushi's body tilted over the silk flower. His neon-blue color faded to a pale grayish blue. I touched him and he didn't respond. Sushi was suffering too much, and I couldn't help him due to bad timing and my ignorance. I wish I had the proper medication on hand or clove oil if the meds didn't work. This happened too fast over a holiday weekend. It hurts to loose a pet on Easter. I didn't know he had dropsy. Sending you love and light.

My husband and I bought a betta from the fish store about a week ago and we new he was sick when we bought him. He had fin rot, a swollen belly his spine was curved and he was lethargic.
He was looking me at me so helpless I knew we needed to take him home.
We put him in a big tank and he seemed to perk up a little for the first 3 days, then he took a turn.
He started pine-conning and he will go into fits where he swims erratically into the glass and upside down. I have spent countless hours trying to help him doing water tests to make sure everything on my end is correct and he just keeps deteriorating.
    It’s so sad.
I’m extremely devastated and know at this point my little Philbert is just suffering, I can see he will pass soon but it breaks my heart that he is suffering so I think we will have to do this clove oil method.

I’m so sorry you had to go through that. You didn’t do anything wrong. Fish from pet stores don’t have the best care before you get them, plus there’s no real way of knowing how old he was. SIP Elijah❤️

I just got a betta. Not by choice. But my younger daughter won it in a birthday party so they kind of brought it in a really small fish tank and I could tell my kids weren’t gonna be taking great care of it. I knew fish had upkeep. You can’t just put them in a tank and call it a day. So what started for me as a few google searches to help the fish have a decent life turned into me going down the “how to care for a betta” rabbit hole. And long story short now ‘Chancho’ (That’s his name), is in a nice 3 gallon tank by himself with water that I boil to dechlorinate with a nice low flow pump and heater. And after learning so much about them it’s crazy how similar they can even be to dogs. He gets really happy to see me. He follows my finger. I catch him knocked out at night as he buries himself a little into the gravel and it’s the cutest thing ever. And now he’s this animal that is going to destroy me when he dies. I tell my wife and kids all the time jokingly that I didn’t need this in my life right now. But it’s actually kind of cool. But thanks for this info. I also wondered what I should do when he gets old so he has a good life. But he’s young right now and doing really great. And I left him alone with his tank. He’s the only fish I have and he seems really happy. Thanks for the video.

There is a chance that you maybe cleaned their tanks too much? I’ve read that some of the stuff in the tanks that build
Up after a while is actually good for them. So I think cleaning it way to often your taking away that good stuff from them. If that makes sense. So sorry you had to go through this

So sorry for your loss, I recently had to do this with my Betta fish Sucre, when we got him we believe he was already quite old and gradually he just started becoming a lot less active, his fins got ragged and his appetite began to decline. We treated him with various medicines but nothing seemed to work as we believe it was old age and in the end he just had stopped eating all together and his breathing had become quite bad and I could clearly see he was suffering. I was so heartbroken that I chose not to get another Betta and instead have turned the tank into a community with guppies and Cory cats.

My female betta started swelling a year ago, the vet sent her amoxicilin and malaquite green ... it just worsened it.
Epsom salt was useless, only sea salt helped her (or so it seemed) it was 2 months of struggle and I had to euthanise her , I cried, a lot.
Its 1:50 am , my male betta has been swelling for over a month, the given treatments might have helped him live this long but have not cured him, so, it is time to say goodbye, I'd forgotten the dosage and another youtuber mixed 5 ml clove oil in 1 liter water and I totally freaked out , I felt the poor fish burned before passing out. It was barbaric!
I wanted to know the right dosage so my dear Ghost will go swimming swiftly over the rainbow bridge with Almita and my beloved pets up there.
Thank you, big hugs (and my late condolences) ❤🐟❤

You obviously love fish very much so I really wanted to ask you to talk about a RUclipsr who abuses fish. His name is Catch Em All Fishing and he doesn't properly care for fish and even subjected tons of feeder goldfish to extreme unnecessary stress via a "rollercoaster "

Thanks for this video. My boy Antonio has had dropsy for a while, now. I've done all that I could in way of treatment and medication but like most say, there's not much anyone can do at this stage. Most likely he only has a week or so left so I decided to euthanize him so that his death is less painful. It breaks my heart to watch him laying on a branch all day struggling to breathe when he was once such an active and showy fish. He was the first fish I formed an actual emotional connection with.
Your video will help me do it the right way. Thanks again and I'm so sorry for your loss.

That's how my betta looks right now. I also have no clue what went wrong. I did so much research, I always did a partial water change (with conditioner) once a week, cycled 10 gallon tank + filter + heater, places to hide. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this tank once he's gone, because I don't want to get another betta sick... but they are such cool fish..
Thank you for this video, and I am sorry for your loss

thank you for sharing this and showing the procedure. i am about to euthanize my black crowntail (he looks exactly like your damon) he has severe dropsy and i just can’t let him suffer. he’s still swimming and acting somewhat normal. but he is severely pine coned and bloated. i don’t want him to feel any pain. your video helped me a lot! also i was a vet assistant for 5 years so i get what you mean by being numb to euthanasia in animals. I’ve assisted in way too many and it’s always so sad to see the patient’s owner so heartbroken. but it’s relieving the pet of their pain. so knowing that makes it a bit easier. thanks again

Just had to do this today with one of my female endlers. She wasn't doing so well about a week ago, so I moved her to a hospital tank with some general cure and antibiotics. Sadly, her symptoms only got worse. Fin rot progressed further, by this morning her tail fin was completely gone and it looked like half her tail had begun to be affected by body rot. She also had a pretty bad case of dropsy. Despite all my efforts, I knew there was no way she was going to make it.
Everyone else in the tank is healthy and well. I have a well stocked community tank with breeding endlers, but it still sucks that I couldn't give this one female endler the best chance at life.

Hey. I know this is really late from when this happened but I wanted to let you know that first of all I completely understand as my first pets were goldfish only. I wasn’t allowed to have pets growing up and when I moved out, it was with my now ex husband. So I kept goldfish only. Long story short, there was one goldfish I had the longest (can’t clearly remember how long) but at least a year to 2 years. He made it through a state to state road trip move back and forth. Then after a while due to job situations, moved back to Vegas. So that fish was such a trooper!!! Then he started getting puffy on one side. Couldn’t swim and all that not fun stuff. I knew he was suffering and with the help of my ex husband, he did the research and helped with euthanizing of my goldfish and I felt dumb too, and cried for him. My ex made me feel better and was there for me with the hard times so NO it’s definitely OK TO CRY FOR YOUR PET. Regardless what type of pet, like a fish; where many would not understand. 💕❤️❤️💕❣️ I definitely do. Wanted to post this comment even with an older video, since I just came across this as it was a suggestion from another type of videos i was watching.
❤️We do not choose who we love. Even when they are gone, they are always in your heart. 🌈❤️
Now I have an awesome cat 🐈 named Rocko. He is my first cat and pet with fur. He is now 11 years old (cat years), adopted when he was about 1 (guess since he was found). After my divorce, it has been him and I against the world. We celebrated successfully living through the good and bad times, making it to 4 and half years almost 5. Just him and I. Something good can and will come out of something bad. Be patient. Be brave. And It’s ok to cry when you are hurting. Helps the healing process. Love for a pet or animal has no rules. You have a wonderful heart. Remember that. XOXO
    ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

My betta Ninja whom I've had since March 2019, I don't know how old he was when we got him. He is getting pale, lethargic, not eating, seemingly becoming blind because he can't aim for his food and swimming vertically face down. I don't think he will make it to next year. I was crying all night seeing him deteriorate. He was very energetic when he was younger, and loved eating. What should I do? Thanks for this video it is very informative.
