This Movie began the way it ended. John Stark “That Man walking down those stairs is a Great American Artist. A Brilliant Musician and Composer and no one knows it.” I think that is what really broke him along with dealing with his illness. He never got his Accolades and Credit for his music while he was alive only decades after his passing. It would have sweet if he received his awards while he was still alive especially for his opera Treemonisha. Although he did receive the recognition of his compositions decades later it was to me a bittersweet victory. A beautiful talent plying his trade in a Brothel with dangerous temptations all around. Fighting to be taken seriously in a racist society that refused to acknowledge him along with the musical greats of his era. Dealing with an illness that had no cure at the time. Losing a Brilliantly Talented Friend whose genius might have surpassed his if he could have avoided the sporting life. Losing your Wife and Child because of one tryst that forever affected his life. All those factors could break anyone who is highly creative in any field. The Element that made his life special is that despite all that he was going through he took the time to write his creative musical thoughts to paper. For that everyone can enjoy what he felt in his Heart and Soul. Scott Joplin 🤴🏿🎼🎹!
@@idkwhattocallmyselfsothiswilld It truly did. This movie is truly probably the most emotional I've ever watched because you can somewhat see his decline into madness. It's a damn shame this movie doesn't get the credit it deserves, just like Joplin didn't.
That being said, what if he died sooner than what he given us. Any black person at the time could have gone the easy route. This guy went the extra mile and studied counterpoint. Let's honor the under 100 rags and opera he created ❤
His anger just really shows how depressed he was. I don't know if y'all have ever noticed, but his starting rags at the turn of the century were cheerful, but as the years went on, Joplin had depressing roadblocks in his life, and that caused his music to turn emotional.
@@idkwhattocallmyselfsothiswilld Search “Bethena”, and why he wrote it. There is also a video on RUclips titled something along the lines of “Bethena With Lyrics”.

@@idkwhattocallmyselfsothiswilld The four sections were actually from different projects Joplin were working on, and he stick them together like magnets, hence the name. the other one I know is Joplins The Favorite, , the name stems from a grand piano in John starks place, it was Joplins favorite piano to play on, and he would play it every time he visited him.
I’d say its pretty rushed up, i think it would have been better if its just a tv series so it wouldn’t look like its rushed up, anyways, thanks for sharing the movie.
Somthing to think decades went by and his music was lost it got discovered in a college storage room they were rummaging through alot of boxes and bam they found some old sheet music and studied who this person was dug up information and found more music writen by him but i wonder if there is more music out there by him lost works waiting to be discovered 🤔
@@lucvanegmond6168 Because Scott was very poor and needed to sell this opera but he needed stark to give him money for costumes and props, but stark didn't have enough money to help scott. Since he didn't have all the costumes and props he needed, as well as his syphillis, he couldn't put on a good show, therefore no one bought it.
Is it possible that you send me the full movie? I have been searching for so long to watch it but unfortunately in my country you can't find it anywhere.

The ending song is so powerful. I love the way they mash up The Entertainer and Maple Leaf Rag together.
And Gladiolus Rag too.

Absolutely and no problem!!!
What a sad ending. Such a shame the man never got the recognition he rightly deserved in his day.
True that
Instead of using the ‘Gladiolus Rag’ to play it out, I probably would’ve been more fitting to play ‘Reflection Rag’
gladiolus rag is perfect, i guess reflection rag would have been a good idea
Thanks for sharing this movie, I'll always be grateful.
You're very welcome.
amazing, just wish it had included one of my favorites, magnetic rag though. And the interesting story behind the name. thx for posting man
