Impressive that it is clear with no voltage…all available electrochromic film that I know of needs voltage to remain clear…a constant battery drain for a parked car, for example. I’ve been searching for film that is clear until voltage is applied…it is a shame it takes so long to achieve darkness though.
This video shows organic electrochromic technology. In a nutshell, it is a special polymer between 2 conductive glasses. When voltage is applied, the polymer is colored. We are also working on inorganic electrochromic technology - ruclips.net/p/PLhuDypAJFg1BxmxOosG2PwsnSdMYBer7j A special and very important difference between electrochromic technologies and others is high transparency. Electrochromic devices do not have the effect of haze and turbidity, especially in comparison with technologies such as PDLC and SPD.
Would love this at home. We just moved to a block of apartments and I am extremely photosensitive. I won't want to block light in the day but at night I am dying!!
We are working on an architectural version of electrochromic glass. It may be on sale soon. In the near future, I will post an experimental sample on the channel.
Hello! An electrochromic device can also be made on plexiglass. You can bend it in 3D, but there are limitations. Later on the channel I will post what I saw with electrochromic PET film. If you have questions, you can email me in more detail: d.knyazhev@gmail.com
Yes, we can speed up the electrochromic device, but not by much. When accelerated, the toning speed can be achieved up to 2 minutes. Electrochromic technology is not fast, this is its feature. We are currently working on speed. In our laboratory we have achieved speeds of 30-40 seconds at any temperature.
In this video you see automotive electrochromic glass with organic electrochromic polymer. Such glass works from a potential of 1-2 Volts of direct current. Current consumption in the tinted state is ~10-20 milliamperes. In order for the glass to be tinted, you need to apply potential. If you remove the potential, it will be un-tinted. That is, in the tinted state, the glass must always be on.

Quite possibly the only video of electrochromic film that actually shows when the voltage is applied along with corresponding transparency level.
I am trying to convey the real effect of the electrochromic glass that we are developing.

This is so cool! I know it's not immediate, but man just a few minutes to go from clear to pitch black. That's crazy!
You can make it immediate by adding something to discharge extra power from a transformer. I used a beeper
Can you get this on house windows too? And smart film too? I wanna get it for my living room?
