Cool LOOKING airplane, but waste of money. That's why they stopped the program. Given that it 1st flew back in 1997, almost 30 years ago, the battlespace has changed enough to affect and dampen it's capabilities.
They are using the lessons and tech they learned to make a better version in the future. A budget recently was passed into upgrading the current F22 tech instead of decommissioning them while developing future NGADs so these F22s will be around for a few more decades with continuous upgrades.

The USAF F-22 Raptor is the best interceptor jet in history. No other jet in the world comes close in establishing absolute air supremacy.
Since the F-22 has never been in air-to-air combat, that remains to be seen. ("It's not the size of the DOG in the fight. It's the size of the FIGHT in the dog." - USAF Aggressor pilot saying.)
The F22 has yet to see actual combat, but the F15 has already proven its self time and time again that it’s the best in air superiority
@@centralplains7608thing is, there have been many training scenarios that involve 22s vs 15s, and it’s not pretty. Many pilots that have flown both have even come out and said 22s would tear up 15s, and since 15s would tear up most anything else with some exceptions, it’s reasonable to extrapolate an educated hypothesis that says 22s would be dominant. That said, that is air superiority fighting. We don’t need to be superior dog fighting anymore, when we can blow the enemy out of the sky before they even know we’re there.

F-14 Is The Best Fighter Jet
I like to think the f-14 is the best fighter jet but in reality it's expensive to fly and maintain requires two people to operate and it's obsolete. It's still the fucking coolest fighter jet that ever existed.
