- The BarDown Beer League team is back in action and today they're testing out the future of the goalie position by replacing Vince with a robot goalie named Goalia. Jesse, Corwin, Luca, Eric, Sam and Poc are skeptical at first, but are slowly won over by the plucky tendy.

I love that no matter what the Bardown team is doing for a video, Jesse always gets fed up and does everything to win.
Can we talk about how amazing it is that high school kids made this?!

It is amazing to me how quickly these human athletes anthropomorphize the robot on the ice. They quickly make it a teammate through stick taps when its brought out, giving it a nickname, throwing chirps its way and lots of headpats when it did make a good save.
Bravo to the student robotics team..... They will put a robotic goalie on Mars within my lifetime. :)
TBH, it operates better than the goalie in any EA NHL game 🤷♂

I'm pretty sure it's also not AI though, it's being controlled by the guy behind the net with the gamepad.

And how about the puck? How do we know that it's legit? And not one of those old "slapshot" measurein' pucks they sold years ago? But now upgraded to spin any old way on command, to change the shot angle?
And the players? Surely their in on it. What ever it is :o) Yes, there's lots of room for some real flimsy conspiracy thinkin' here :o)

Opposing team was definitely cheesing with the quick shots from the neutral zone and whipping pucks in from bad angles that the robot eye couldn't see very well
Just imagine what Boston Dynamics could do with this. I think these kids are going to have a bright future, the ones who made Goalia.
Can Bardown just get its own channel already? I would subscribe to that, TSN I wont because I just don't want all the (especially non-hockey) sports flooding my sub feed.
The reason they don't have their own channel is because a bunch of people would unsub from TSN to sub to the Bardown channel.

I'm 99% sure those are my leg pads I had custom made in high school in 2006. Does the high school robotics department have a contact. I would love to support them.

The "Expert System" goalie (not AI as advertised) is a sieve on stick-side shots. Does much better on glove-side shots. Because (I'm guessin") the glove is a much bigger target than whatever the stick-side blocking target is. Which is probably just the hand holding the stick, itself. But I could stand corrected...

I could imagine a drone goalie that could actually cover a soccer net. Soccer goalies must defend a really large net compared to hockey goalies. Imagine a hockey goalie having to decide which way to jump on every penalty shot, for example.
So put a drone goalie in the soccer goalie position. Make it fair (chancy) by having the goalie a round ball of some size that will "try" to deflect the ball out of harm's way. Knowing full well, that it can get to any shot coming its way...

Imagine if we weren’t joking, and the NHL actually added accurate puck tracking on the ice to eliminate the need for linesman. How great would it be to no longer f around with missed calls.
The accuracy of that is within 3.6mm and I can’t find how thick the NHL goal line is
