The Menger Bar at the historic Menger Hotel in San Antonio, TX is awash in Texas and US history.
Built as part of the hotel in 1859 the Menger Bar immediately became a popular area watering hole for cowboys and business people, not to mention area travelers and residents. It was remodeled in the 1870s to match the bar at the House of Lords in London, England. And they couldn't have done a better job.
This small bar glistens with the shine of mahogany and oak paneling, and you can just imagine the secrets it holds after 160 years of quenching thirsts.
It's also been a popular stop-over by celebrities throughout the years. Jesse James, Oscar Wilde, dozens of politicians and famous characters from our history--all have sat at the bar at one time or another.
It's most famous as a recruiting station for Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders, when Teddy himself got fellow drinkers to join his volunteer regiment. Not to be missed in San Antonio!
