As you know we love our Kali Audio LP-6’s and we use them everyday. Well, Kali has done it again, and their latest IN8 studio monitors are 3-way and fully powered!
I’m excited about this because at Kali’s price point of only $299 for the pair of LP6's, I really didn't think they could make anything better.
Considering what I love about the LP-6’s, the IN8's seem like the next logical step up; and I really like the idea of the three-way speaker!

Both👍🏻
Cheap headphones, because I'm too poor to afford good ones or monitors. Hope I win!
Hi Michel Vegter nice! Thanks for sharing!!
I go back and forth, between headphones and Speakers. I used to only use headphones. I found my mixes got better when I added the speaker component. I would kill for a pair of these. Well... I would kill germs and mosquitoes. I a kinda nice guy. The rest can live. But Wow!I love that you played Aida. I absolute love Giuseppe Verdi.
Both, as well.
I've waited so long for these to come out. Ive been impressed by what Kali has offered so far. Can't wait to try these.
Amazing! Thanks for the kind words!
Kali Audio can I use the LP6 in the horizontal way?
I'm pretty darn sure you'll love these Ezar!!
Just bought a pair of these (6 in) last weekend. They sound PHENOMENAL!
Hi Joe McAdam that’s amazing to hear!!
Glad to hear it!
Excellent gear review! I find that I am increasingly spending hours in a day watching your videos - you have a fantastic gift and channel, THANK YOU, WARREN!
Wow! Thank you ever so much my friend!!
I was just looking around for Black Friday sales on monitors and then this video is here the following afternoon. More than fine with winning a pair that's even better and bigger than what I have an eye on come after turkey day.
Hi dangrel that’s amazing to hear!! I’m very impressed! Three way speakers for $798 a pair!!
I've been looking forward to these for quite some time. Great to see they've finally made it into production.
Awesome!
The LP-6's are some of the best money I've ever spent, thanks for the heads-up Warren.
So glad to hear it!
Fantastic Hans! Agreed I love mine!!
Kali Audio Metal mania! You rock!
I own the LP-6 and they are the best. I've had other monitors in that price range and the Kali's blew them all away. Love mixing on them.
That's amazing to hear my friend!!
Awesome that you heard classical music through them, such a natural frequency curve and incredible depth when recorded well!
Yes, agreed, truth be told both Nathan and I are Classical Music nerds...shhh! Don't tell him I told you!
@@Producelikeapro
Warren, what is your shortlist of Classical Reference tracks???
Maybe put together a playlist on one of the streaming services and share the Link?
TIA!
I've been looking for studio monitors for like 3 days non stop, and I found out that the Kali-LP 6's are the best of the best for the price., yes even better than the ones that cost 2-3 times the money.
Nate is a great guy! He helped me a lot when I needed to test the LP6. Can't wait to hear these as well, they came out when I was ready to buy the LP6 so now it's harder haha. Cheers!
You're too kind! -Nate
Thank you Warren. Wish I was there to hear the Kali's!
How deep is the low end compared to your Genelec's and Focals ?
I have the LP6. Great speakers for mixing.
LP6s are next level for the price point
Hi Calvin Lauber agreed 100%!
What is my hobby. Listening music ever since my younger days. So this IN8 will definitely suit me. Thanks a lot 4 the video.
Thanks! I admit, I would really like to win them, not that I will, but I'd like to.
Either way, good work Kali!
Thanks!
Yes, agreed Peter!
Perhaps the wrong place to ask, but what are the mixes you refer to to compare monitors / your own mixes. I need to hear what a great mix is supposed to sound like vs my own in my monitors. Thanks so much for all you do. I really enjoy the channel!
Cheers,
Steve
Thanks for putting this up Warren! Here to answer questions!
can‘t wait for them to be available in germany. didn‘t get the LP‘s but this 3 way got me super excited. I love mid range detail and this video got me pumped! 😁
Isn't there any drawback or demerits of the concentric driver of the IN-8 compared to all seperated drivers 3-way speaker?
@@DrAudioBot Awesome!
@@simpleidindeed quite the opposite! The separation is going to cause lobing in the directivity, as well as phase incoherence at the crossover.
@Viktor Žarković The mid driver moves less than 1mm peak to peak, so acoustically it is immobile.
yesterday arrived my lp6 AND ......are fucking great !!!! is like have my headphones all the time is really amazing.
Did you get a chance to mix on them? Eager to hear your thoughts!!
Thank you for presenting these amazing monitors!
Thanks!
You're very welcome Hannes!
if you want a modern classical record to test, that's incredibly high fidelity and amazingly detailed, listen to A Winged Victory For The Sullen's first record. It's masterfully recorded and mixed. Definitely checking out these monitors.

Love my Kali 6’s....have it along with a Yamaha HS8 w/HS 10 sub setup as my pretend mains...I find having two different brands for different soundstage purposes works well.
Warren, how would you say these compare to the VERY similarly priced Focal Alpha series. I have a pair of Alpha 65s, very wonderful speakers, I've very few problems with them but if these are in any way shape or form better, I would love to replace my alphas with the kalis! Any thoughts? Cheers!
One week ago I bought LP 8 and I like more upper mids. Oh well.
Where did you buy them? If it's only a week I'm sure they would trade them back for these! You can always just ask!
@@Producelikeapro why not both! :)
Yes I'm looking for some speakers in this price range, room dimensions 18 by 14' I was considering the tannoy reveal 802 how do they compare to them and how do they compare to the LP8, or Adam a7x, and the Neumann's KH 80 anything you can suggest don't want to go really above £800 a pair would be grateful. Not sure about the Yamaha hs8 never liked it's predecessor 10.
I don't like to hear the voicing from the coils
Hi John! This is a personal opinion, and I am obviously TREMENDOUSLY biased, so take it with a grain of salt:
vs. LP-8: IN-8s are the superior speaker. More depth, better imaging, better dynamic range, lower distortion. All other factors being equal, if I were choosing between the two, I would only choose the LP-8 if I couldn't afford IN-8, or if I were intentionally looking for a more entry level speaker as a reference.
vs. A7X/KH80: These speakers are a different beast. The advantage that the IN-8 will have (over any two-way speaker) is that the coaxial structure eliminates off-axis lobing, so the imaging in IN-8 will be better.
@@kaliaudio i'm also thinking of grabbing a pair. So I figure I'd ask you for another tremendously biased answer so that I can hear what I want to hear and make an impulse buy.. gotta love confirmation bias! ;)
Anyway, I really like speakers with detailed up front mids. I'm guessing these have that? I have a pair of event opals, and they are fantastic to just listen to music on, but mixing is difficult because the mids are so mellow. I have to do so much on the ns-10 and my ears hate me for it.
Would you say these have a mid forward quality? that's what I'm looking for.
thanks
4:36 I love that song
I like that the models are named after towns in California, nice touch. I suggest a EG line for Elk Grove, CA. It's where my mother grew up.
Our suburban speakers... :)
I got a big beautiful smile from PB at 5:20
Please help me on this one.
Should I go for Kali LP6 or presonus xt5
Could you explain what the term Burn in time for speakers means and the effective difference that it has on the sound of speakers and if there is any particular techinques that are used for doing this?
🎶👂
Kali's official position is that burn-in time is a marketing gimmick. When we power test our speakers, we see no appreciable difference between a speaker that's been running at full tilt for 100 hours and one that's being played for the first time.
Can I also use the LP6 in the horizontal way?
Wouldn't recommend it! The waveguide is made to be used in the vertical orientation, so the imaging will not be as good with the LP-6s or LP-8s on their sides. The IN-8s can be on their side with no problem.
Kali Audio thank you for the answer
@@kaliaudio Thanks for sharing!
@@barbarossa589 thanks to Kali for letting us know! I was wondering the same thing!

When you said sounds wider my Bluetooth speaker sounded like a home theater system for a second 😂😂😂😅😅
Peter Rhines haha nice!!
@warren....LP8 or IN-8 which one to buy and why?? Thx
Do you think that the difference between these ones and the Adam A77X is big? It's because I want to buy a new pair of studio monitors and I'm not sure if I want to spend that much money on the A77X.
Most of our retailers have pretty generous return policies if you want to try ours first... :)
@@kaliaudio and that applies for Portugal too?
Hi Warren , so are you using Genetec 1032's or Focal's now ?? what do you recommend ?
2:52 Do the Auralex Mopads help deal with this 150 hz cut? I've been using Mopads since they came out but it's just simply that I trust Auralex to design a product that does what they say it will. In addition to Mopads, my monitors (Presonus Eris e4.5 w/Temblor T10 sub) are approximately 27" from a carpeted wall, FWIW.
I love coaxial monitors. I truly believe coaxial design is superior to the standard tweeter on top of woofer design even with the compromises which these days can be mitigated with wave guides and dsp.
Im very happy Kali made the IN-8 because it seems that coaxials just never really take off. Look what happened to Equator Audio. The IN-8s look nice however im not sure these are going to sell very well and its because of their price and specs. The IN-8s are very similar to another failed studio monitor called the M Audio M3-8 that I actually owned for a short time. Visually they look very similar with a small mid range and tweeter coaxial combo on top of an 8 inch woofer. However many things are different. The kalis use a 1, 4 and 8 inch driver. The maudios use a 1, 5, and 8 inch driver with the tweeter in a wave guide. Here is whats weird to me. The m audios larger 5 inch mid crosses higher at 450hz vs the kali smaller 4 inch that crosses at 330hz. This means the kali mid has more excursion yet there is no wave guide for the tweeter. So the m audios not only have less movement around the tweeter but a lot of it is mitigated with the wave guide. Why dont the kalis have a wave guide?
Another spec I want to compare is how low the monitors play. Kali manual says 45hz at -3d and 37hz at -10db. I usually see similar specs for 6.5 inch monitors. The m audios say 40hz but dont state the db. Many 8 inch monitors I see these days state 35hz at -3db. Overall I think this is the least important spec because the distance from the rear wall severely alters bass response but still is something interesting to note.
The next specs I wanted to compare is amplifier power. The kalis have a total of 140 watts and the m audios have a total of 220 watts. 140 is sufficient but these are mid field monitors which means they need more power than near field monitors. And comparing weight, the m audios weigh 5 pounds more per speaker. Im guessing this is because of the bigger amp, and drivers with larger magnets. Maybe the cabinet is a little thicker or has more bracing as well.
The last thing that I noticed about the kalis is the placement distance from the listener. The manual calls for 2.8 meters. Thats 9.2 feet. These are not designed to be used on a desk or even a console. These are mid field monitors that should be on stands or mounted on a wall. Im guessing the reason they need to be so far away is so the woofer crosses over correctly with the midrange since the tweeters are supposed to be ear level. With a basic 2 way design, many times you can simply raise the monitor so the woofer is ear level making the tweeter farther away from the woofer therefore giving proper time alignment of the drivers. With this coaxial design you cant do that. You are forced to move the speaker farther away so the woofer can be in phase with the mid and tweeter. Which then I wonder, does this defeat the purpose of this speaker being coaxial? When a speaker is so far away can your ears really notice if its a coaxial design? I think there is still the benefit of coaxial design but the benefit becomes smaller the farther you move the speaker away.
And last but not least, price. The M audio were marketed at 700 a pair while the kalis are sold for 800 a pair while being lighter, having less power, smaller mid range, and no wave guide. Now heres the crazy thing. The m audios have been discontinued. You can still find pairs on ebay. Denon owns M audio and Denon makes a twin copy of the M Audo M3-8 called DN508S. They look a bit different but the specs are exactly the same. Denon says they are the same. And guess how much they cost, 270 a pair brand new today.
Great Review! Warren can you share what songs you used to audition this monitors?
The noise floor is a little obvious. If it is improved, it will definitely be sold!
The seller is the price no doubt
What would be a better choice between Yamaha HS5 and Kali LP6?
As they both are pretty close in terms of price in my country.
Also can you suggest me some good budget studio monitors according to my room?
My room measurements are as follows :
18.5 ft length X 11 ft Breadth X 8ft height
Thanks!
Is there a full description on what boost/cuts the boundary eq switches do?
Should I get the Lp6 or the in8 3 way for mixing? I remember you said the lp6 are good for mixing.
Hi Warren, thanks for your review. By the time you test IN8 in your room, you also work with 1032, would you give me a more detail thing how about their difference in sense of detail & depth?
I am a 1031 user till now, although i’am just a hobbyist that not everytime siting in front of monitors and we both in different room, i just work inside my bedroom that has no acoustic treatment, just a lil bit luck my room’s dimension are in the Bonello Graph recommended criteria and placed with common studio speakers placement guide.
From your honest conclusion, will it be worth switch to IN8 from 1031?
What álbum are you testing the speakers ?

Hi Milton Siñani Rojas thanks ever so much my friend!!
I think you should pan around the room more often.. nice to see what else is going on haha!
I've had Adam A7x for a few years now. But I'm interested in these IN-8's. Anyone have a comparison or in a similar situation. Great video Warren!
I mix on headphones. But I recently upgraded ro Sonarworks Reference
Would you recomend to move from gelec 1030 to In8? 🙂
Listening on LP-8s. I thought they sounded pretty good but way too fast. I prefer a half-time monitor with better toneclock.
I entered, did all the things. If I win I'm giving my LP-8s to my friend.
Grave Protocol marvellous! Best of luck to you and everyone else!
Im considering buying the IN-5 or the LP6. The IN-5 are a little outside my price range but it's manageable. My only concern about the IN-5 is there physical size. I really want to downsize in speaker size and the LP6 would fit better in my rig and my room size, plus its cheaper. A lot of people complain about the Class D amp hiss, but coming from KRK RPG2 im used to hiss by now. I never notice it when playing music. My KRK's i bought back in 2012-2013 and for 4 years i was out of state and didnt have them with me. My family stored them in a barely insulated attic in western new york for a couple years then into a storage unit and they definitely got damaged from temperature and humidity changes. They have lost a ton of high end and sound so muffled and muddy, so its time to replace them. Warren what do u suggest i get? My budget is realistically around 500 usd for a pair, but 700 would be manageable with some extra time. Also keep in mind that my room is not treated yet so every penny i can save from gear purchases with help me invest into treating my space. I am no professional, but music is my life and passion, and just want a good sounding rig for what i can afford
what do you think about the Presonus SCEPTRE ?
These or the fluid audio fx80?
The Kalis are great no doubt...:)
Yes Sir!!
will they be releasing an LP6 version? a Kali Audio IN6 3-Way perhaps?
I wonder how these, or any other powered studio monitors, would work on a live gig situation. Would it be ok to used them as PA speakers? If so, how big of roam, and with how many people, would they fill?

As others have replied, they don't really have the SPL for a live gig. At $399 a piece, you'd be MUCH better served with QSC CP series or similar.
How many people? 15 maybe

Warren: do you still have these? Not sure if a power conditioner would help, but mine hiss enough that I can hear it even six feet away in an untreated room.
I am in an old house though so maybe that has an effect? What do you think. The hiss is present even with all inputs disconnected.
Been patiently waiting for you to get these in studio, now it’s just to decide between these or the 6’s. I use Audio Technica M40X’s and Sony MDR 7506’s for headphones with JBL and Mackie monitors, needing to add some Kali’s to the stable..

Thanks Warren! A lot of times I don't remember to enter. The You Tube app updates are not letting my iOS screen reading device into the expanded description box, or personal settings for the last month or so. I've written the developers at least two times with the specifics because it used to work. I can however leaf back through emails for the enter links as a workaround. I'm just saying what's happening with it here, so other peeps who also are having this same thing where voiceover skips everything before the word "catagory" can know the workaround as well, and might also write the developers by way of the "Apps" program, and mention the built in tool included in the Apple developer tools, near the end. It's a simple tool, if people are aware of its existence. I'm guessing the developer crew has changed a little. Lots of the rest of the You Tube app is working. Hey Warren, Any possibility of a cla10 review?
Hi Anthony, don't they sound exactly like the NS10's that Bob Clearmountain made famous? I know what those sound like, I had a pair of those for 20 years! Still have a pair in storage!
i keep seeing there is a self noise issue that people are encountering. did you experience that when you demoed these?
How is the hiss?
3 years late to the party, but I had a question that might be useful regadless of the speaker... your main monitors on their side have Tweeters on the inside, yet when you flipped these speakers onto their side you have tweeters on the outside, yet Kali's support docs have tweeters on the inside 😂 Is there any guidance on inside or outside for tweeters, or is it speaker specific?
Kali’s support documents (also Kali themselves, I spoke to one of the owners) do not recommend the tweeters be on the inside. On the outside they will have a wider stereo image and it’s all about creating an equilateral triangle based around the seating position. The Focal’s you are referring to do specifically require the tweeters to be on the inside.
@@Producelikeapro - amazing! Thank you so much for the reply!
As always thank you Warren and team for the content you put out there! So my question is that if going with something like a Kali is fairly impressive why would the mixing community even consider speakers such as 5K Genelec's or 8K Treo Be 11's which I believe you mix on? If the consumer base is in essence on ear buds, headphones and Bluetooth based speakers and are listening in mono or 2.1 stereo this seems a bit of a law of diminishing returns. I am trying to understand this as I originally worked on Rokkit's and Yamaha HS series speakers (which I sold - great speakers for the price) and am close in my search to upgrading to a different speaker set (the 1032C is actually one of the contenders). If 5K was the budget would it be better to save the 5K and go with different components such as better preamps, guitar / head options and the plethora of other massive amounts of options? Right now I am mixing on iLoud MTM's as a bridge. PS. I am removing the Atmos / Cinematic (5.1 / 7/1 and beyond) stuff from my question. Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Following back up as I have got my research down to Dyn Core 7 vs Adam S2V vs Genelec 8340 (all with their subs). Is this a big fat waste of money and just go with Kali's? Are speakers such as this in essence excess and not much better?
hope youll review them more in detail and compare more to the LP‘s :)
Ooooooh. seconded.
What about sound shootout with lp-6 (lp-8) ? :)
Hi Warren, I recently received a pair of these IN 8 monitors. First, I would like to say that they do sound very clear. However, when they are sitting idle and powered on they emit an annoying sssshhhhh sound. The Adam pair of A77x or my Yamaha 80 do not have this issue, so I know its not the monitor controller ( Drawmer 3.1} Any input from you experience with them would be wonderful and greatly appreciated ! Thank you YOU ROCK WARREN !!
Big chance it's the class D amps, "self noise" they call it. Can't have everything ghehe
Hiss is a common - and probably the only - issue of Kali monitors . But considering the price it sounds reasonable (they opted for hiss over distortion).
So how do they translate?
Any comparison with the adams? Any other monitor you would recommend in this price range?
@@musictracer8542 Hey there, I've been testing them in my studio for 2 weeks now.
+Very good stereo image
+ Midrange clarity
+ Nice low end extension, but lows weren't really punchy imo
- Hiss, very difficult to mix at lower volumes because the hiss will distract.
- One of the speakers would switch off at random even though I was playing music through them. (is only this speaker ofcourse, not every IN-8 would show these problems, I hope lol)
As with all speakers, I had to adjust to the translation of them to other speakers. They translate pretty well, although I think 8 inch is too big for my room.
After extended search for alternatives I'm going to test APS Klasik 2020 this week and maybe Eve SC207. They're a bit more expensive, but maybe they're worth it.
@@WorstViktorEU Thanks for your reply! Pretty interesting that the bass isn't tight enough. Also you the first I hear saying the hiss is that loud that makes it hard to mix at low levels.
Regarding the auto switch off issue, it seems like you got a faulty one. AFAIK Kali is very willing to help with after sails issues, so why not get in touvh with them?
I was looking into the eves also, but from reviews I realized they are more on the hifi side of monitors. Not too analytical, so I think they are not quite in my choices.
Aps an the onther hand, I have heard they are great on their lows. EDM producers tend to like them a lot. Big plus that they are hand made (also I think somewhere in EU). The problem is that the port turbulence effect seems to kick in quite early when increasing the volume. But from your reply there is a 2020 version of them, so, if that is the case maybe they have corrected that. But on the other hand, how is the midrange clarity on these? Mids are factor one in a monitor imo.
Please let me know your opinion if you demo any of these, particularly compared to the Kalis. I'd be glad if did! :-)
(By the way, are you producing, or just mixing/mastering? Any mix you recently made on the IN-8's? )
@@WorstViktorEU Thanks a lot for your reply!
Just wanted to check, did you get to hear the Klasiks 2020 and the sc207? If yes, how do they compare to the In-8s?
