    DUDE! I KNEW YOU WERE AWESOME! Anybody that's an Iron Maiden fan is AWESOME in my book! Iron Maiden is one of my all-time favorite metal groups. As for the mic, I'm going to have look into it as I build up my mic locker.

      Thank goodness my Hanson t-shirt was in the wash. Dude... MAIDEN!!!!! I was listening to Piece of Mind yesterday in the car and by the time the guitar solo harmonies end in Where Eagles Dare, I'm like 25 over the speed limit. LOL. The Earthworks SV33 is a pretty incredible mic and incredibly versatile for VO. I made a couple of other videos here on my channel about my initial experiences with it that you can check out, too.

    Yeh man! I’m using the Manley plugin too but as a recorded monitor insert, rather than Unison. I find the Unison noisy with the high level of gain I need for my SM7b.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 года назад

      I can imagine it. The Voxbox gets kinda hairy when you crank the gain and the sm7b has such low output to begin with. Have you tried it with a cloudlifter? The 3k input impedance of the cloudlifter will help your SPL handling going into the Apollo unison? Or have you tried the UA SSL? It stays a lot cleaner at high gain levels.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I’ve never used a Cloudlifter. I find the Manley used as a Monitor insert gives me the warmth and compression I want without the noise.

    hi, some info, I record voiceover with Shure SM7B mic with cloudfilter, in Unison I insert the ManleyVoxBox Pre, increase Manley input but the Apollo LEDs struggle to reach -20db this doesn't happen when I record with Neve 1084 Unison in HI mode at 600ohm the LEDs they give peaks of -6db

    You try anything outside the UA system? The Waves Scheps Omni channel is incredibly well-designed.

      UA was my first introduction to "in the box" recording, back when I was using all analog hardware, and I fell hard for it and have been using it ever since, so I haven't really gigged with other software solutions. I've downloaded the Waves Sheps Omni demo, but I haven't messed around too much with it yet. It looks pretty perfect for VO, though I can't seem to figure out if there's a viable way to use the Waves stuff live while recording without latency and I really prefer to commit to a sound and printing it while recording as opposed to messing with it in post, especially when doing a live remote session with a client. I am very interested in other plug-ins aside from UA, but I haven't figured out how to integrate them into my workflow and the fast pace at which I often have to turn some bookings around.

    Hello there. I'm really enjoying your fascinating videos. I'm a beginner and have picked up Voxbox to use with my 4th generation Rode NT1, which I run through an Audient interface into WaveLab Cast 2. My vocal booth is a closet of clothes with a duvet up above the microphone. It's obviously not the most advanced setup, but it's what I can afford right now. I'm creating a radio show with music; I've been a club DJ for many years, and this seemed like a natural progression. I hope the Voxbox will help give my voice recording some richness, fullness, and a little of that tube warmth that will suit my show. Can I get away with just the Voxbox, or will I need something like the Neve AMC channel strip, too? Thank you!

      Hi! You should get a lot of milage from the Voxbox on its own and probably won't need to run it through another channel strip, but if you do feel you have to, you may want to try other channel strips as your front end preamp first if you're going for a more pure VO sound than a more finessed DJ sound. I started my career in a walk-in closet and squirreled away money from jobs here and there until I had enough to get my booth, but it was a couple years in that closet and, overall, I thought it sounded pretty darned good for an improvised space.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Thank you so much for getting back to me! And for the encouraging words. I just mixed my first beta radio show and decided to add a Manley tube preamp plugin to my setup, and I think it sounds pretty good, all things considered. I already regret not doing more research on mics before starting out though, and wish I'd bought an SE 4400 per your recommendation - it sounds gorgeous! Thank you again!

    How is your mic not clipping - when on the side I can see the audio reaching up into the yellow/orange range near -3db?
